Avatar f tn CHILDHOOD FEVERS, SPECIFICALLY GERMAN MEASLES (RUBELLA) CAN REMAIN IN THE MITRAL VALVE INDEFINITELY AND CAN BE ACTIVATED BY AN ORAL PROCEDURE THAT RELEASES BACTERIA INTO THE ORAL CAVITY THE OP SPECIFICALLY ASKS ABOUT PROPHYLACTIC COVER FOR MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE BUT REALLY, HOW MANY PATIENTS CAN SAFELY RECALL THEIR ENTIRE MEDICAL HISTORY?
Avatar n tn No infection. I think it is prolapse.
Avatar m tn Hi, according to the new guidelines, prophylactic antibiotics to prevent endocarditis, prior to dental therapy are no longer recommended for individuals with mitral valve prolapse, rheumatic heart disease and bicuspid valve disease. So, you may not need antibiotics. But, please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar f tn For some insight, mitral regurgitation from mitral valve prolapse is the most common reason for surgical treatment. Mitral valve prolapse occurs when the leaflets and supporting cords of the mitral valve have excess tissue, and they weaken. With each contraction of the left ventricle, the valve leaflets bulge (prolapse) into the left atrium. This common heart defect may prevent the mitral valve from closing tightly and lead to regurgitation. Mitral valve prolapse is common.
Avatar f tn t have to worry about Mitral valve prolapse. Antibiotics may not help with the chest pain. Beta blockers and aspirin are indicated if you have rhythm abnormalities or if prone for blood clots. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Mitral valve prolapse does not lead endocarditis. Mitral valve prolapse is a condition in which the leaflets and tendon-like cords supporting the mitral valve weaken. The result is that with each contraction of the left ventricle, the valve leaflets bulge (prolapse) up into the left atrium. This common heart defect may prevent the mitral valve from closing tightly and lead to regurgitation. However, mitral valve prolapse is common and most people who have it never develop severe regurgitation.
Avatar f tn AML is "anterior mitral valve leaftlet". That leaflet (front side) of the mitral valve appears to have some thickening. The mitral valve is a one way passing of blood received from the lungs into the lower chamber to be pumped into circulation. Mitral valve regurgitation indicates some backflow of blood back into the upper chamber. MVP is mitral valve prolapse meaning the valve leaflet doesn't properly close.and 12mm is the calculation of the degree of prolapse.
Avatar f tn heard some sounds in my heart, and asked me to do anther check up on heart echocardiogram. The result said I have a mild Mitral Valve Prolapse, mild Mitral Regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation. This doctor did said I can exercise and unless I feel uncomfortable. But I saw aonther doctor before he said I should not exercise or even recommand to do surgery on my wpw. He seems very not professional. That's why I go to the second doctor (I mentioned above). Thanks all your opinon!
Avatar n tn QUOTE from MedNet: "Most people with mitral valve prolapse have no symptoms, however, those who do commonly complain of symptoms such as fatigue, palpitations, chest pain, anxiety, and migraine headaches. Stroke is a very rare complication of mitral valve prolapse". I qualified my answer with slight MVP. If MVP has moderate to severe regurgitation there will be symptoms related to low cardiac output...
1256970 tn?1269451137 In 2008 I had an echo diagnosing that I did not have mitral valve prolapse. I am waiting for another echo, but it is through the County, and may be a long wait. How can I all of a sudden not have mitral valve prolapse???
Avatar f tn Here we deal with mitral valve prolapse dysautonomia (also known as mitral valve prolapse syndrome), which is distinct from mitral valve prolapse itself. Judging by your symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, shortness of breath, palpitations, and chest pain, I would say that it is reasonable for you to want to investigate whether you might have MVPD/S.
1569985 tn?1328247482 Preventive antibiotics are no longer recommended for many people who have common heart conditions such as mitral valve prolapse or rheumatic heart disease.
Avatar n tn I am a 38-year-old woman who was diagnosed six years ago with mitral valve prolapse with mild regurgitation and aortic valve sclerosis. Is it common to have both heart conditions at the same time? I am a bit upset because my cardiologist never told me about the aortic sclerosis, just mvp, and the only reason I know is because the technician left my file open and I read the report.
Avatar f tn You didn't say if any action/concern relative to the valve prolapse, is this condition under treatment? If the prolapse isn't severe, I believe it isn't considered a problem, and I read mitral valve prolapse occurs in about 10% of the population. I had a leaky mitral valve for years. It is also clear we can aggravate health symptoms with our minds. Try to relax, breath deeply, focus thoughts and activities on things that you enjoy and then see how you feel.
Avatar m tn Mitral valve prolapse due to Myxomatous degeneration causes the body of the mitral valve leaflets to prolapse into the left atrium in systole. "Redundant leaflets" (thickened in this context) is commonly used to describe the characteristics of the valve leaflets in mitral valve prolapse. My question; how is it that the valve leaflet is redundant (thickened), and not thinned considering that the cause of this condition is myxomatous "degeneration"?
846941 tn?1238692112 According to my Cardiologist, if surgery is performed, the only valve that would be repaired or replaced would be my mitral valve, but I have been told that my aortic valve is also quite severely insufficient and also had mild to moderate regurg, why would the surgeon only replace just one valve?
Avatar m tn mitral valve prolapse, trivial mitral valve insufficiency; physiologic tricuspid insufficiency; physiologic pulmonic insufficiency; pulmonary artery systolic pressure 29 mmHg. Can someone explain these echo findings to me? I am particularly interested in how serious the valve issues are and what to expect next.
1209474 tn?1265952310 t agree the underlying cause is as described for valve prolapse. What is described pertains more to valve regurgitation. I have mitral valve regurgitation and an enlarged left ventricle can/did deform the orifice... Mitral valve prolapse is a common condition occurring in approximately 4 - 18% of the population.
Avatar f tn It showed that the strength of my heart was perfect and also that i had 3 mild leakey valves. 1) mitral valve regurgitation w/out prolapse 2) tricuspid valve insuff. 3) pulmonary insuff. I was sooo scared. I get heaviness in my chest that feels like im having a hard time breathing although i am breathing perfectly fine. My dr. said it is nothing to stress about and not to worry. She told me i did'nt have to go running to see a cardiologist.
