Common Questions and Answers about Angiography for stroke

angiogram

Avatar m tn I have a nephew who had a stroke at age 40; he was known to have used pot since he was a teenager.
Avatar n tn This is a risk factor for the development of stroke since the plaque could dislodge causing embolism and ischemia. I would suggest discussing the situation and the appropriate management plan with his treating doctor when you meet him/her next or with one of the team members. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn During the time at the hospital, the Echo 2D test showed irregular heartbeat and the doctors suggested Angiography. The Angiography did not come out very well and multiple blockages were found, ranging from 50% to 100%. Doctors suggested bypass as Angioplasty wouldn't help. As my father is almost 75 years old and as he has a critical brain clot, diabetes and also piles, we felt that it would be too difficult for him to handle the bypass, hence kept him on medication.
Avatar n tn how long can a ischemic stroke affected person can survive, specially when he is only on medical management and also when he is suffering from angina?
Avatar f tn I have been pushing for a referral to a neurologist, but feel that I must fight the GP for every little thing, including the MRI's, which I paid for outside the medical system. Are these findings actually "negative" or am is my concern warranted? I believe he may have has some small strokes. Please help.
400099 tn?1282954864 MRA stand for "magnetic resonance angiography" which is just another term for MRI "magnetic resonance image". In other words you have an MRA in order to get an MRI.
Avatar f tn I am in need of some answers... for the past week i have had a weird sensation mostly in my left hand but in my left arm as well . also i am contantly dizzy too ( its like im in a different body)its very hard to explain what i am feeling there for everyone i speak to thinks i am crazy. its constant and dosent go away..i feel slight confusion as well and my vison seemd to be blurry/ I frequently have sharp pains in my head. my mom had history of MANY stroke and passed from it at 50.
Avatar n tn How long ago was your stroke? What kind of stroke did you have? What does your doctor have to say about the migraines?
Avatar n tn It took me over 6 hours to paint a ceiling in January 08. Later that evening, intermittent dizziness began and persisted. Saw my MD who said I might have crimped the two arteries at the back of the neck. A tick bite necessitating Doxycycline in early June made the dizziness worse, so after clear Lyme and RMSF titres came back negative, I was taken off the Doxycycline. Went for about 2 months with no dizziness.
Avatar f tn The MRA said that there is no evidence for hemodynamically significant stenosis or aneurysm measuring greater than 3-4 mm in size of the major intracranial arteries. And that the right A1 segment is mildly hypoplastic as compared to the left. What does this mean? Does that mean that they saw some aneurysms, but that they are small? Do I need to worry about ruptured aneurysms or stroke? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent either? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Please help, any insight as to what tests I can ask for to get a diagnosis, to see if there is damage caused by the angiogram and hopefully resolve this so I can get back to my life. I have no quality of life now.
122065 tn?1241385329 Just had an angiography of the eyes with contrast as a followup to the vitreous separation and a cotton wool patch was discovered on the left eye. Health is good - low blood pressure, no diabetes, low cholesterol, etc. Doc assured me it will go away but was concerned with what may have caused it. I am on HRT and he said this could be the culprit. Ae there any symptoms with these patches? That eye is feeling just a bit off.
Avatar f tn Yes, you can have headaches for years after a stroke. I have had migraines for over 3 years since my stroke which the neurologists seem to think were caused by my stroke. And I have since read many posts from others who have migraines after their strokes. But there are many treatments that the doctors can do. You need to find a headache specialist or at least a neurologist.
368646 tn?1208393887 Apart from MRA or magnetic resonance angiography, Doppler/ultrasound of carotid arteries, to detect carotid artery stenosis or detection of the precerebral arteries. For the assessment of stable stroke, nuclear medicine scans SPECT and PET/ CT may be helpful. SPECT documents cerebral blood flow and PET with FDGisotope the metabolic activity of neurons. Hope this helps .Take care.
Avatar n tn History of progressive fatigue for past 5 years, now so bad that I returned to my physician. I was treated for Depression with Wellbutrin (didn 't work) and SSRI and Adderal (didn't work either.) Acute episodes (about 1-2 X's per year) accompanied by extreme bad breath and incapacitating fatigue requiring bedrest for 2-3 days. Over the past 2 year there is an increase in fatigue and I am unable to perform dailly activities.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic back and neck pain for 5 years, had a basilar migraine, trapped nerves in my neck and back and now my neck feels compressed. It hasn't been diagnosed and i am worried as to what it could be. I think it may be compressed neck arteries which make me lightheaded and dizzy. Any ideas? I am currently seeing a chiropractor who works wonders for the back and neck pain, but the lightheadedness remains.
Avatar m tn Greetings. An angiography revealed a blockage of about 60-70% where the LM meets the LAD (I think that's correct....it's in a really bad spot). Interventional Cardiologist says he'd worry about long term safety of putting one or more Drug Eluting Stents in there to address since he'd worry about a clot forming down the road. So, he says I need CABG. Does this sound right to you all?
Avatar f tn when his CT scan of Lungs was normal and there was no cardiac malfunction (because Angiography was done and was normal, there was some uneven blockage but not to put stante) then what was the reason for Stroke - Should it be due to COPD? or due to COPD? I'll go through the link which you suggest me.. Once again Thanks a Lot.. One more question I wanted to ask you, My mother has elergic Asthma, what should we do as a Precaution? She has weather Elergy. Please Guide me.
Avatar m tn Dear Mam, Thank you very much for the reply. According with Nerologist suggestion we undergone a MRI scan & MR Angiography of Brain. The main observations after MRI scans are 'Area of restricted diffusion appearing dark on ADC' seen in right superior cerebellum. Other tiny restricted diffusion appearing dark on ADC in right hemi mid brain & hemi pontine region. The Impressions are 1).
Avatar f tn Only your husband can decide about the Brilinta for now, but do a web search for "plant-based coronary diet" and you will begin finding the things I began doing just three weeks ago that are already making a tremendous difference for me in relation to coronary artery disease.
Avatar m tn 2) I have read about Macular OCT and OCT Angiography for advanced Glaucoma. Can these tests detect progression before they show up in increased eye pressure or vision changes? 3) Can Macular OCT be done in the same machine that does regular OCT? 4) Would you happen to know if OCT Angiography would be available in countries like India? Sorry for the long message. Thank you for your time!
Avatar f tn They are thinking about doing the procedure where they go up into the groin but because there is a chance for a stroke they really dont want to and are giving me the all clear. I really don't know how to feel about this because the surgeon is putting all his faith in the radiologist. I shold be happy about this but am more confused, I just dont have a great feeling about this especially since I have had a family member die from one at age 45. I am 35.
