Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram technology

angiogram

Avatar n tn The CT scan 64 slice angiogram may have become obsolete and cath angiogram was better, but the new technology, called 256-slice CT, provides a quantum leap in imaging and is now being used to diagnose heart disease. "This advanced scanner achieves whole imaging of the heart within a short time span using low dose radiation, providing much more visual detail about the heart's function and structures.
Avatar f tn My father has just undergone a angiogram and was advised that his Right Coronary artery is 100% blocked. 8 years ago he had his first angiogram d/t tightening in the throat symptoms upon exersion. His angiogram at that time showed a very small occlusion in the lower aspect of the heart- resulting in the stable angina. The lastest angiogram also revealed "new arteries" had formed and have compensated for the blockage somewhat.
Avatar m tn What can be ruled out with a ct angiogram? Can we see what the EF is ? Also can they find any abnormalities in the shap of the heart? And can they see any major valve regurgitatiOn? I'm concerned ? Because some people rather have a conventional angiogram and don't see a ct angiogram useful and I would like to know why??
Avatar f tn Been suffering from high blood pressure, breathlessness on excertion and some pain in chest area...was referred for angiogram which couldn't be completed due to artery spasming but some results showed left anterior descending artery and circumflex artery tortuous with no blockage ...am due for a ct angiogram to complete and also a echogramme...what does tortuous mean and should I be concerned ?
Avatar m tn The doctor said there is a very very mild change in the stress test and considering my family history (2 of my fathers younger brothers died due to heart attack) suggested for an invasive angiogram to rule out any possibility of a heart problem. He also added it need not be done immediately but may in period of 2 to 3 months. With the above can anyone tell me how serious is my problem is and how fast should i det done the angiogram. Should i go for invasive or non invasive.
Avatar m tn The left artery (LAD) posterior location and report states normal, however, there is a recommendation for stent implants. Usually when there is an angiogram and done with a cath the stent implants are done at that time. Was the angiogram done with imaging technology such as a CT scan? Thanks for the questions and if you have any further questions or comments, you are welcome to respond. Take care, and I wish your cousin well going forward.
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar n tn s doctor is assuming there will be stent implants, therefore, a cath angiogram would be more appropiate. And if true, that would justify a cath angiogram and no CTA. Requesting a CTA is no different than getting a second opinion so I don't see why there would be an objection. Sometimes a second opinion is rewarding...It is difficult to second quess a doctor's assessment, but due to the new technology and the probability of false postive, it may be a good idea. ..
Avatar n tn The latest technology for heart patients is the ct scan 360 slice. It can measure subtle changes in blood flow or minute blockages forming in blood vessels no bigger than the average width of a toothpick (1.5 millimeters) in the heart and brain. It is 4 dimensional (4th dimension is ability to view blood flow and provides images as good as a surgeon when operating). It may be as good as a cath angiogram that has been described as the gold standard test by Jon and others.
Avatar f tn Is it really necessary for me to have an angiogram after finding out I have small aneurism in my head? The aneurism is 3 mm, I am a healthy 37 year old female. Should I get a second opinion? It really seems unnecessary for me to have a cath and camera into my brain for an aneurism they say is small and not to worry about it???
Avatar n tn I had a false positive on my nuclear stress test. when I did my angiogram the nurse said up to 50% of nuclear stress tests are false positive. Great technology !
Avatar n tn You can't get much less invasive than an Angiogram. Just a tiny incision in the groin area as opposed to having your sternum seperated and the rib cage pulled apart. Risks with Angiograms are miniscule. If they find something life threatening they can treat it at the same time. What is it that puts you off Angio technology in particular? Personally I think its the best thing since the invention of the wheel.
Avatar m tn Im scheduled for a ct angiogram for shortness of breath with dizzyness.i saw a differnet cardiologist for a second opinion and he feels its ideal because of the ongoing shortness of breath im experiencing with meals and excersis. In the past iv had three ct scans for other health reasons not heart related. my concerns are iv had three ct scans and this next one makes it four, The amount of just one ct scan is tolerated by the body but 4 ct scans sounds excesive to me and so im really concerned.
Avatar m tn Any lesions greater than 70% can be problematic, and your in law has extensive coronary valve disease. Was the artery evaluation made with a cath or was the angiogram CTscan or MUGA. It seems if the angiograph with a cath there would have been stent implants in the areas of major occlusions? Thanks for sharing, and if you have any followup questions you are welcome to respond.
Avatar m tn my mother 65 years old had a heart attack 30th jan 2011 and she was admitted in the hospital and taken angiogram on 3rdh feb 2011 by 4pm having 2 blockages in 100% and 95% imediately the cardiologist asked me whether you want to do angioplasty or bypass surgery and i decided to do angioplasty the cardiologist did medicated angioplasty with 2 stem and she retured home on 5th evening and she did well in on 7th morning 1.
Avatar n tn I have had a angiogram 10 years ago and everything was clear, no blockages anywhere. Now, there is slight angina more often than it used to seem to occur, but when I excercise, nothing hurts, all is well. Blood tests are all OK, but the physician suggested the CT scan.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar n tn After a cardigraph treadmill test I'm being referred for angiogram - I'm going on holiday in two weeks with a 3 hour flight. Should I travel?
329165 tn?1515471990 I had an Angiogram done in 01/2007. i have familial-cholestorol (latest lipo showed total of 6,9 fasting) During the Angio they only found coronary artery spasms. no blockages found. the past 4 weeks or so I have been experiencing chest tightness and some burning pains in chest - at rest. lasting under 1 minute and dissolves by itself. I have not been taking any Cholestorol meds (medical aid depleted) for the past 7months.
Avatar f tn My partner is having an angiogram after suffering chest pains a few weeks ago. NAD was found at the time from blood tests and ECG (done over 18 hours). Was kept in overnight. Had no discomfort since, but suffers from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol which are all controlled and low due to medication. His chest pains were 4 weeks ago and he's had nothing since.
Avatar n tn my mother is suffering from chest pain now Doctor is saying to go for angiogram test?
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
