Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure surgery

angiogram

Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar n tn Which procedure are you refering to? there does seem to be a 'minial invasive' label attached to a few procedures. I know that two years ago, aortic valves were replaced successfully in patients in Kings College in London using just a catheter through the artery in the leg, just like an angiogram. The collapsed valve replacement was sent to the correct position and expanded into place using a balloon, squashing the old valve leafs into the heart.
Avatar m tn Now Doctor has prescribed for Angiogram. He said he can suggest for treatment only after seeing the angiogram reports. Please help with your suggestion that whether we should go for angiogram. He is a diabetic patient since last 15 years and having high Blood pressure complaint since last 5 years.
Avatar n tn The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar m tn I have talked to someone who suffered an internal puncture during a heart cath procedure and had to have immediate open-heart surgery to have it repaired. The risk of something like that's happening is very, very low, but it is not zero. Likewise, the risk of cancer from a 4th ct scan is very, very low, but it is not zero. If the choice of cath vs. CT-A is your choice to make, then I suggest you take the risk that personally bothers you the least.
Avatar f tn I am having my lead extracted at Brigham and Womens in Boston and would like to feel a little more confident about the procedure. My venogram and CT chest angiogram indicate an unocluded vein but was told that the lead can still be attached to the vein wall when the surgery is done and can lead to complication. Has anyone had lead extraction surgery within the past year?
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar m tn My dad is 90 years old. He has had stents inserted about 3 times. He has another blockage that needs to be opened up. I took him to the local hospital here in Las Vegas. They performed an angiogram and the doctor tried to insert the balloon without success. He said he could only get it in half way because prior operations had left to much tissue in the way. Is there a chance there is a doctor around that has more experience in this procedure. Is there an alternative course of action?
Avatar f tn ve recently had a 24 hour monitor, echo, renal scan, chemical stress test and the doctor said it showed that I have PVCs and PACs and that we should do an angiogram. Is that enough reason to do an angiogram? Would that suggest that I'm not getting enough blood to the left side of my heart? I feel fabulous and have no symptoms except occassionally I feel the PVCs when I'm tired, stressed or have had too much caffene.
Avatar f tn After I had an emergency Angiogram after a Radical Hysterectomy - nothing was found to be wrong with my heart. Now that I am home I realise there was a nerve cut which the procedure was done and now I am numb on the right side - groin area and my right labia. I have a great deal of pain - much like that felt with Shigles (I expect) the skin is very tender and I even have difficulty wearing clothes.
Avatar n tn Did your brother in law have an angiogram just prior to the bypass surgery? I have had the bruise you describe as a result of that procedure.
Avatar n tn the cardiologist diagnosed me with stable angina and upped my atenolol dose and he order an angiogram procedure for me. i am very anxious and i can not handle that type of invasive procedure. he told me that i could be at risk of a heart attack and himself and the nurses were upset at me that i declined the cath procedure. my question to you guys is..could my heart rate at 190 BMP have been svt or afib/flutter just mimicking ST elevation? can sinus tach get up to 190?
Avatar f tn I had quadruple bypass surgery in Sept 08. I have diabetes also. Yesterday I had an angiogram and was told that 2 of the arteries are 100% blocked. My cardiologists doesn't want to see me for 6 months, is this normal procedure.
Avatar m tn Hi, If this is really cancer, the better experience is with surgery. This is because those who are not candidates for surgery are advised radiation. Hence, it would not be possible to say if these two approaches are equivalent. However, if this would not be cancer, then of course, the risks of the wedge resection may not be worth it.
Avatar n tn Hello Padma, Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar f tn If you call an "invasive procedure" surgery then, yes, he would need surgery. And as was said before an Angiogram would be the right choice.
Avatar f tn I have read thousands of posts and there are very few that have an angiogram for suspected occlusions that does not get a stent during the procedure. The cardiologist may see a 60 percenter, and stent for whatever reason even for the money! The stats indicate there are many patients that receive stent implants who may have done well with medication therapy. I would never suggest you or anyone should have relied on medication and not have stent implants.
Avatar f tn I'm awaiting a call from the specialist who does remove the ILM and I will ask him about the dyes and their possible toxic effects. You seem very knowledgeable about eye problems. . I will post what he says and go friom there. Would appreciate your further comment when I get this info.
Avatar n tn My husband recently went an angioplasty. During the procedure, his femorial artery was punctured causing a pseudoaneurysm, which then caused a blood clot to form on the outside of the artery wall. This resulted in them going back in to do a thrombosis injection. Because of the where the puncture was located, they had to actually operate on my husband. He has a 7 inch incision in his groin area. They had to drain the blood clot and repair the artery.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar n tn The doc puts the device up through the groin and into the brain like an angiogram. If she is having this procedure, she is very lucky. There are not many docs that are trained to do this procedure and there is a small window of time that the procedure can be done after the onset of the stroke. Good luck to your sister in law and your family!
Avatar n tn There are a few treatment options for AVMs which you can discuss with your doctor. Many will go for an embolization surgery, but you can also look into removal or stereotactic radiosurgery. Make sure to talk about the pros and cons of each and see what will be best for your specific case. Hope you are doing well.
