Many cardiologists seem to prefer angiogram. I've had both a ct angio and an angiogram and I didn't feel any difference between the two. I still had the same burning sensations from the dye etc in both procedures. I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures.
My dad, who is 76 years old, suffered a heart attack (Sept. 1992) and underwent triple bypass surgery in Jan. 1993 with mitral valve replacement. He has been doing very well the last 14 years until the summer of 2007 when he started having problems breathing on minimal exertion accompanied by chest pain and not helped with Nitroglycerin. My Dad's cardiologist did a angiogram in Nov. 2007 and found his EF to be 0.25%.
Mild MR, EF 62%. This was followed up by an Angiogram and the report said: Left ventricular angiography reveals normal regional wall motion. The ejection fraction was 70%. the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure was mildly elevated at 17mmhg. there was no gradient on LVAL pullback and no mitral regurgitation was seen with the ventricular angiogram. What does this mean?
My doctor suggested an Angiogram to make sure that something is not being missed. I am a little nervous and thought someone could answer some questions I have?
1. Is this a fairly safe procedure?
2. What are the risks?
3. Do all the serious risk only happen during the procedure?
4. What are the risk 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after the procedure, meaning how long before you know you are out of the risk zone?

I would consider having an Angiogram, but through your arm and not the leg artery. You have some calcium showing up on the ct scan of which I will translate for you.
Halfway down your left main coronary artery (LAD) you have suggested moderate sized blockage due to the calcium detected. The word 'luminal' is in reference to the open space in the artery which blood flows through.
No heart damage was detected, they did an angiogram and found only 10% micro vascular blockages. Then one month ago I had again possible heart attack. Elevated triponin that continued to rise with chest pain. Did not see any stress cardiomyopathy on echo. I again had a repeat angiogram but only showed micro vascular blockages at about 10%. They are puzzled with what is going on. I am active and excise daily, have been eating low fat, low sugar diet for 15 years.
I have another angiogram scheduled. My Cardio DR. is concerned because of a "strong family history" of premature CAD. Here's my history and question.
3/21/14- Unstable anginia and abnormal stress test. Admission to hospital and given angioplasty due to a 90% blockage of the LAD.
Diagnosis says:" successful ad hoc PCI to the LAD with a single resolute zotarolimus eluding stent with good results. No complications.
On a routine TMT I was positive for induced eschimia and asked to consult cardiologist. He advised angiogram. But I did not have any symptom like chest pain or short breadth. I went for cartography and found no problems. Should I undergo angiogram? pls advice.
I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure.
Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.

My partner is having an angiogram after suffering chest pains a few weeks ago. NAD was found at the time from blood tests and ECG (done over 18 hours). Was kept in overnight. Had no discomfort since, but suffers from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol which are all controlled and low due to medication.
His chest pains were 4 weeks ago and he's had nothing since.

A CT angiogram is more sensitive than a straight forward angiogram. They both rely on a radioactive substance being injected into your blood stream and it's this which the scanners pick up. If a CT angiogram doesn't reveal a vessel, then no way will an angiogram.
I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it.
I think another angiogram is your best option personally. It will show how clear your vessels are but ask them to do a FFR on your coronary arteries. This is a tiny sensor which gives the cardiologist the blood flow rate. Without this test, they are simply going by visual signs which is an inaccurate method. I would like to know what your BP was to lower your EF to 15%?
The tests indicated a blockage. I am now waiting for an angiogram. They put me on drugs after the test. I am on 1.25mg Monocor, 5mg Norvasc, 10mg Crestor as well as ASA 81mg - one per day. Now I wait for Angiogram. I am quite freaked out. So I am scheduled for an angiogram on Feb 5th. They tell me there are risks in this test. The risk is 1 in 1000 people die, stroke or have a heart attack during this proceedure. My question is this, Should I get a 64-slice Coronary CT Angiograph​y?
