Hi, for the past 9 days I have had constant shortness of breath. It started with a dry cough, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath but now it's pretty much just the shortness of breath. I also am constantly burping and I feel as if I have a lump stuck in my throat. I have had a chest x-ray, ekg, blood tests and a CT angiogram of my chest done. Everything came out normal.
the dr's did another cardio test and went further and found another blockage , they said they were very sorry they did not go further last time and that they were surprised i had not had a major heart attack, did bypass surgery in dec 2011. Now i have heart palpatations and still smoe shortness of breath and dizziness. I did 1 follow up after surgery and then the cardiac dr's said I didn't need to come back.
I had a stent put in back in 2007, since then I have been having shortness of breath,pain in my chest that runs up in my neck to my jaw and down my left arm. This has been going on for several years. Within the last 2 years I have been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, asthma, and copd. I can't do anything that causes stress or exertion without experiencing all these symptoms.
PLEASE HELP.
My 90 year old mother has been feeling chest discomfort and shortness of breath with minimal exertion. A recent stress test and angiogram revealed ischemia and a completely occluded artery, with evidence of collateral vessel development. She also has two leaking heart valves. Her cardiologist told us that he will not operate on one blocked artery (hers was a branch of the circumflex), and did not think it was appropriate to stent that artery either.
My husband (39 yrs) has been experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath for about 4 months. First started out as shortness of breath then chest pain. He has been also having pain in the throat area and feeling very fatigue and weak. Shortness of breath comes on with physical activity sometimes with light activity or even if talk too much. Chest pain is in mid section of chest and to the left.
A week ago I woke up in the middle of the night with shortness of breath. I was pale, sweating, and a bit dizzy. I didn't feel chest "pain", just an intense pressure. I went to the ER, and :
- blood pressure was fine
- ECG was fine
- chest x-ray was fine
- blood tests (3 over 9 hours) were all fine
I was sent home, but the chest was store sore all day.
After about 4 weeks, these symptoms disappeared and did not reappear until a year later (6 months postpartum). In addition to a great deal of shortness of breath and fatigue, I also began to experience significant heart palpitations, extreme lightheadedness and near fainting spells. On one occasion, I went to the ER and 1 1/2 hours after I was laying on the floor, my heart rate on the EKG was only 40 bpm.
If you are experiencing symptoms of heart disease like chest pain and pressure, shortness of breath etc.. then I would go straight to the angiogram as that's what you'll need to do next even if your CT comes back clean and you are still having symptoms, it's the only way to rule out your heart as the cause. If your CT comes back showing the possibility of blockages, then you'll need an angiogram to determine the extent and place stents if necessary.
My 62 year old wife was having mild angina attacks 1 year ago (ocassional shortnesss of breath & pain). Her Dr. did an angio and found 1 partially blocked artery with spasms. He inserted a stent. Put her on Plavix & Lipitor. She has been fine for 11 months, but now has similar symptons. A nuclear stress was negative.
I HAVE HAD SOME PROBLEMS OFF AND ON OVER THE YEARS EVEN SINCE I HAD IT PUT IN WITH FATIQUE AND SHORTNESS OF BREATH. LAST AUGUST I HAD A PACEMAKER CHECK AND MY CARDIOLOGIST HAD SOMEONE CALL AND TELL ME TO COME DOWN TO HAVE IT CHECKED AT THE OFFICE. APPARENTLY SOMETHING SHOWED IN THE PHONE CHECK THAT WAS NOT QUITE RIGHT. I WENT AND THE TECHNICIAN FROM ST JUDE'S ADJUSTED IT. THE CARDIOLOGIST THEN REQUESTED THAT I COME BACK FOR SOME MORE TESTS.
I am a 35-year-old female with symptoms that include shortness of breath, chest pain (worse with exertion), and exhaustion for approximately 1 year. I had an echo done which showed a small pericardial effusion, mildly dilated right ventricle, and mild tricuspid and mitral valve regurgitation. I had a cardiac MRI and coronary CT which were normal. I had a pulmonary stress test which showed low Vo2. The cardiologists and pulmonologists I have seen do not know what is wrong with me.

1st heart attack at 26, no treatment
2nd heart attack at 43, CAD, cabg for 100% block right artery, 90 percent left main, 40% block main artery not able to operate upon as well as a borderline EF 40% and LA dysfunction
Since then heart flutters, recurring low blood pressure, angina, some shortness of breath, in hospital 3 times for various bouts of numbness in arms, jaw, flutters etc, sinus brachycardia

My echo and EKG looked normal, blood tests were normal but an angiogram revealed a sorry state of a left coronary artery. So when people feel something like sudden shortness of breath and chest pains, it doesn't mean nothing has gone wrong simply because a few simple tests say so. They should take the matter seriously and determine the exact cause.
Well there are certain signs to look out for. If it's heart disease, and the shortness of breath is not all the time, only with exertion, then this could be angina, stable angina. With stable angina, you should notice that the shortness of breath occurs more when out in cold air exerting yourself. As the weather cools (as it recently has in the UK) it tends to reveal more potential angina patients. I used to feel great in the summer, but terrible in winter.
