Angiogram false positive

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram false positive

angiogram

Avatar m tn EKGs can show all kinds of things, and the best solution is to have a look at your arteries. For a pain free 20 minute procedure it is worth it. Imagine if you have the procedure and nothing is found, you can relax for many years.
Avatar n tn I had a nuclear stress test that may have showed an issue in my right coronary artery. I have no angina and excellent exercise ability. My cardio suggested to get an angiogram to see if it really blocked or just a false positive. I'm scared of the angiogram. Isn't the new 64 slice CT scan just as good to detect blockages as the invasive angiogram?
Avatar n tn I had a false positive on my nuclear stress test. when I did my angiogram the nurse said up to 50% of nuclear stress tests are false positive. Great technology !
Avatar n tn s a chance that both tests could be giving false positive results. I wondered whether cardiac MRI or cardiac computed tomography are a viable alternative to an angiogram ? Any advice would be appreciated. { I am female, 49.
Avatar f tn However, not all results are 100% specific. For example, a false positive stress test can be falsely abnormal. There are a number of reasons why this can happen (e.g. large breasts) and this phenomenon is becoming more common these days. Similarly, there are about 20% of nuclear tests that show false positive results. However, it is important that these results be justified by a CT coronary angiogram or cardiac catheterization. For further queries, consult your cardiologist. Thanks for asking.
Avatar f tn This stress echo failure rate results in an increase in the number of nuclear perfusion stress tests, which are known to have a high incidence of false positive results. A false positive cardiac stress test may increase the number of expensive, unnecessary cardiac catheterization procedures and their associated required hospital stay and added anxiety, discomfort and medical risk for the patient.
Avatar n tn Granted it is low tech and sensitivity may show many false positives (we know what causes false positives), but few if any false negatives!. If the test is abnormal and ST and T wave are the bases the doctor may order further testing. An EKG is included in a stress test. A stress test will induce ischemia with perfusion of contrast agent with images. An echo Non-intervention angiogram CT scan 64/128/256 slice is almost as good and maybe better than the intervention of a cath angiogram.
2152246 tn?1336525629 My 1st Cardiologist I have seen for the past 10 Yrs and I have had blood work done and an Angiogram 10 yrs ago and everything had shown clear then. That Cardiologist prescribed Anxitey meds and I have been on them since. My reason to seek for a second opinion was that this Cardiologist was leaning too much toward Anxiety with the chest pains. And since she found an abnormality that I was born with in my 1st Angiogram I am not about to take any chances.
Avatar n tn I have had no chest pains and have felt fine. My GP ordered EKG because I am over 40, that was abnormal, I then had stress test which showed blockage. On Tuesday I underwent heart catherization and was found to be a false positive. I don't know what to do now. Again I feel fine but I am now very sceptical of any test results.
Avatar f tn It certainly could be a false positive. ECG results are generally diagnosed by the machine, and the machine will interpret what is vague or questionable in the most conservative manner. Very possibly and probably it is something to do with placement locations of leads, etc. As I understand it, ECG's are helpful in diagnosing gross abnormalities or a heart attack in progress, but it isn't the best tool in the box for diagnostic work.
Avatar f tn Is there any reason they think maybe it would be a false positive? I had a nuclear stress test about three years ago and it showed a small reversible ischemia in the anterior wall of my heart. During my angiogram they told me I had wide open arteries. However an echo that they told me was fine and I’ve seen three years later says that I have mild concentric LVH. I have no idea why they told me that was OK but my angiogram showed wide open arteries after the nuclear stress test showed a blockage.
Avatar f tn I had one in 2003 because I had a false positive on another test -- maybe the chemical stress test. I did have afib, and they wanted to rule out any underlying heart disease. I was told recently that they probably wouldn't do that now. If you don't have symptoms of a blockage, I wonder why they are ordering it. There is a calcium CT scan that can spot blockages that is not invasive. Maybe a 2nd opinion is in order. That said, I'm just passing on things I've read or heard.
Avatar n tn Coronary angiogram is the gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The other tests were false positive. A common finding associated with those very non-specific tests. Your chest pain doesn't sound to be cardiac in origin and there is nothing about you that makes me suspicious for coronary artery disease as the cause of your atypical chest pain. The pain you are describing is probably musculoskeletal in origin.
Avatar n tn You must have had symptoms and/or other signs otherwise what would be the reason for an interventional procedure? Frequently, an EKG can be false positive, but a false negative seems to me to be unlikely...apparently possible based on your experience. The reason for a false positive has to do with artefacts produced by chemical interaction (medication, drugs, electrolyte deficency), etc. and other artificial means that can influence the nartural state of electrogram complexes..
Avatar m tn I had an angiogram and found out that I am fine, Another case of false positive from nuclear stress test.
Avatar n tn doctor asked to take an angiogram .is there anything to fear ,since father says he doesnt feel any fatigue or breathlesness .but sometimes after 1 month he says he is feeling little brethless sometime .please clarify me about the nature of disease.
Avatar n tn If you have your mind made up on going further with the CAD workup, I think a CT angio would be a good alternative to a catheterization given your young age and low rate of false positive results. At the same time, having a normal stress test would be good enough reassurance if I were in your shoes.
Avatar n tn They are performing a western blot as a second test to rule out a false positive. Can Lyme Disease be a possible cause? If so, will the standard treatment of oral antibiotics to treat the Lyme clear up the blindness?
Avatar n tn Unless you are having symptoms of heart diesease such as chest pain, shortness of breath or fainting, you need to be careful about having additional tests. Eventually you will have a false positive which will lead to invasive and more dangerous procedures. Much depends on how you are feeling and why you had the test in the first place.
Avatar m tn Can a nuclear stress show false positive? What are the percentages of false negative? Some mild discomfort shortly after the stress test. Is there any significance to this? Should I request a third angio? In addition, I have a Hiatial Hernia which I've heard can have the same symptoms of chest pain.
Avatar f tn s stress test and given the very low prevalence of obstructive atherosclerosis in your age group it is probably a false positive finding. A more common problem would be an anomalous coronary artery or HOCM. The latter can be diagnosed via an echocardiogram but the former usually requires a left heart catheterization or a CT angiogram of the heart.
Avatar f tn Has anyone received a false positive for turners syndrome when testing the genetics of your baby?
Avatar f tn I received test results yesterday and need some help. The physician is optimistic that it's a false positive but I need some input. I went for retesting but need some type of hope right now. HIV 1/O/2 Abs Index Value 1.01 Reference range <1.00 HIV 1/O/2 Abs QUAL Repeatedly Reactive What factors would contribute to a false positive? was also diagnosed with BV. Could this play a factor with my antibodies for testing?
