Angiogram blockage

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram blockage

angiogram

Avatar m tn It is very difficult for Cardiologists with some patients. The reason being, that angiograms do not reveal all vessels. Most collateral vessels are totally invisible on an angiogram because they are so small for example. This can be very misleading with proposed treatments. Let's say you have two blockages, one at 50% and one at 80%. During a stress test it simply reveals ischemia to the left side of the heart. You then have an angiogram which reveals the two blockages, 50 and 80.
Avatar n tn my mother is suffering from chest pain now Doctor is saying to go for angiogram test?
Avatar n tn Why would a cardiologist do an angiogram and give a report of a 30% blockage and two weeks later do a cardiac cath and give a report of 89% blockage in the LAD? Why would an angiogram not show this?
Avatar f tn s ECG and Inhanced stress test were both negative. The blockage was only seen from the angiogram. What is the likelyhood in resolving this blockage with a stent therefore reducing or eliminating the angina symptoms? My concern is, by not looking after this blockage and potentially waiting for another to develop elsewhere vs. just continuing to take medication to keep the angina "at bay"?
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.
Avatar n tn Same as they usually wait to do surgery on the Carotids until the blockage is at least 70% I think it is. .
Avatar n tn I have to have a valve replaced and am having an angiogram to see if there is blockage to be treated at the same time. The physician doing the angiogram has indicated he will put in a stent if he finds blockage. My feeling is that this is unnecessary as the major advantage of angioplasty (less invasive than bypass) is totally irrelevant since I'm having a valve replaced anyway. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn If the nuclear testing doesnt show 100% and original angiogram showed some other blockage in one area of 75% =, could this cause the pain to still exist....The nitro has no effect in helping either.
Avatar n tn After a cardigraph treadmill test I'm being referred for angiogram - I'm going on holiday in two weeks with a 3 hour flight. Should I travel?
Avatar m tn Many cardiologists seem to prefer angiogram. I've had both a ct angio and an angiogram and I didn't feel any difference between the two. I still had the same burning sensations from the dye etc in both procedures. I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures.
Avatar f tn Then a guide wire is passed through the blockage and a catheter is slid over the wire and passed the blockage. The catheter has suction and is slowly pulled back to remove any clot material. Another image is then taken. This may be done 2 or 3 times. Then a balloon is used to enlarge the artery and nitro is given to prevent any spasm. Then the stent is put into position and inflated with a balloon for about 20-30 seconds before the balloon is removed. More pictures are then taken.
Avatar f tn I had quadruple bypass surgery in Sept 08. I have diabetes also. Yesterday I had an angiogram and was told that 2 of the arteries are 100% blocked. My cardiologists doesn't want to see me for 6 months, is this normal procedure.
Avatar m tn A cath angiogram revealed 80-90% blockage on my left anterior artey (LAD). I am a 52 years old man , No diabetic, No Hi-blood pressure. No any pain on my chest. I am active, go to the gym and in full time job. Stenting or Bi-pass, What is best treatment for my 80-90% LAD Blockage ?
Avatar m tn I'm shocked that you have symptoms with a 50% blockage? Unless they've underestimated the size. Even with a 70% blockage most people can endure quite a large exercise tolerance. It is a big contributing factor (symptoms) as to what sort of medical regime you will receive. Maybe beta blockers will work wonders but if not and your symptoms get worse, you could very well be looking at a stent.
Avatar m tn The tests indicated a blockage. I am now waiting for an angiogram. They put me on drugs after the test. I am on 1.25mg Monocor, 5mg Norvasc, 10mg Crestor as well as ASA 81mg - one per day. Now I wait for Angiogram. I am quite freaked out. So I am scheduled for an angiogram on Feb 5th. They tell me there are risks in this test. The risk is 1 in 1000 people die, stroke or have a heart attack during this proceedure. My question is this, Should I get a 64-slice Coronary CT Angiography?
Avatar m tn My doctor is obviously recommending an angiogram to rule out/in a blockage, but I just cannot understand how this is possible. I'm terrified of the angiogram and its risks, and the possibility of a stent just doesn't compute (my father was 70 when he got his stent, how am I possibly getting one at 39?!) Part of me wants it to be a blockage so that I will finally have a definitive diagnosis. If it's not a blockage, then what could this be?
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a ct angiogram Dec 21 and my calcium score is 694. My cholesterol is 242. My doctor put me on crestor 10 mg per day. I just got the hard copy report today and my dr. is away for the holidays.... what does that score mean? I have chest pain frequently but they thought it was all in my head....
Avatar f tn The medication you are on, statins and Aspirin are not going to make the problem go away, they are to help prevent the blockage getting worse or clots forming in the artery. The bisoprolol is to keep the heart more relaxed and prevent it jumping suddenly into hard action mode. The only way this problem will get resolved is by intervention, to open the blockage more. So you are looking at either stenting or bypass.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist said the angiogram is the "gold standard" for checking for blockage. I've been through two myself, no big deal. I too have problems "passing" a nuclear stress test, but the last one I had a few months back went fine.
Avatar n tn I just had a stress test and the doctor called to say I have a blockage in the back of my heart. I have been trying to find out what this means for me and unable. i do not have appointment with him till Tuesday and I am very worried. Trying to find out what steps will be taken and how servere is this. I would appreciate any answers to my heart health problem.
Avatar f tn my Dad is 67 years old and had memory loss ,slurred speech due to two little block in brain and blockage in internal carotid artery . The doppler study and MRI A angiogram showed 100% blockage of left internal carotid artery. The right artery had 30% 40% of block. His colateral blood is normal. he had diabeties and Bp for the past 1 1/2 years. he got blood supply through right arteries..
Avatar f tn The 3D CCG differs from CT as it measures blood velocity to determine fault that may or may not be due to blockage but another cause. A cath angiogram has the advantage if there is blockage, the blockage can be stented at the time, and it is not painful at all!. If the angiogram is not with a cath (invasive), what is going to be the procedure if the non-invasive test is positive?...it would require an invasive procedure.
Avatar f tn He said he thot treating me with medication would be the way to go because the blockage was SOFT plaque and he was afraid to mess with the 90% blockage because it could make the LAD WORSE(???) I spent 2 nights and was sent home. ( I have no Insurance)... The meds made my BP fall to 83/48 and slow pulse in the 40s.. so I called my reg Cardioloigist (who I had seen in the past for PVCs) They had me come in.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
