Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram alternative

angiogram

Avatar n tn Doctor said that there could be a problem with heart walves so, he suggested to do Angiogram. Are there alternatives to do Angiogram? Is it really required to do Angiogram? Please advise. Thanks, Padma.
776302 tn?1241091853 I just heard about the Seimens Sensation 64 slice CT scanner test as an accurate alternative to the angiogram. It is non-invasive and the angiogram is invasive and may have serious side effects. Is this type of scanner really as accurate as an angiogram? Please let me know.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
Avatar n tn s heart is pumping only 18- 20% he has no other symptoms and i was wondering if there was any alternative procedures to an aniogram that might not be invasive or if this is the best thing he could do ?
Avatar n tn I wondered whether cardiac MRI or cardiac computed tomography are a viable alternative to an angiogram ? Any advice would be appreciated. { I am female, 49.
974371 tn?1424653129 No way could I get through that and understand they keep you awake? Wondering if there is an alternative and if anyone has had the angiogram done and what your experiences were.
Avatar n tn A nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate in finding CAD whereas a angiogram is 100% accurate. The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar m tn Is ther an alternative test, other than CT scan, to test for calcification in heart arteries? My wife is claustrophobic and so she is very afraid of CTS, MRIs, and so forth.
1161780 tn?1266711844 In the end, however, it was a specific type of angiogram that ultimately confirmed my diagnosis of Coronary Microvascular Disease. I was given a Coronary Reactivity Test which is an angiography procedure specifically designed to examine the blood vessels in the heart and how they respond to different medications. Recently, both the Wall Street Journal and NPR posted some very convincing arguments as to why the traditional angiogram is no longer the ‘gold standard’ in heart testing.
Avatar n tn If the stress test is normal I would reconsider cardiac etiology for your chest pain and start looking for alternative explanations such as lung or stomach problems.
Avatar n tn A relative with similar sensitivities to particulate matter was unable to breathe in nuclear stress test and had to be given oxygen to rescue her. Also there is an issue with left basilar scarring. Cardiologist says nuclear stress test is not a very good test. Isn't there an alternative?
Avatar n tn A coronary angiogram by itself is often normal in people with microvascular angina (like Toni Braxton has), but a stress thallium shows perfusion defects and the EKG shows ischaemic changes with exercise because the heart is not perfusing adequately even though the blockage is not in the larger arteries that are seen on angiogram. Also coronary artery spasm can cause real cardiac pain and sometimes occurs in arteries that look normal on angiography.
Avatar n tn Yes, a CT scan 64-slice angiogram is an alternative to the intervention of a cath angiogram. Because there has been too many unnecessary stent implants, there are quidelines for treatment of angina and suspected CAD. If angina (chest pain) can be controlled with medication, then treat medically. If angina is not controlled, then stent occlusions greater than 70%. In the event there is an emergency with an occlusion then a by pass.
Avatar f tn A CT scan 64-slice angiogram would be an alternative but for someone your young age doctors may be against the procedure due radiation exposure. The procedure includes assessment of the AV, aortic root, ascending, arch and decreasing aorta. Sensitivity is good with MRI and MRA if the software package is designed to image structures. MRI generally has the highest sensitivity of the imaging modalities, with similar specificity to CT and TEE. .
Avatar f tn However, you will find that they tend not to do further bypass surgery unless all other avenues absolutely give no alternative. I think they will look at angioplasty first. At the end of the day, your husband is in charge, it's his body. If he doesn't want bypass surgery again, tell them from the start. Simply tell them he can't go through all that again and they will look stronger at alternatives.
Avatar n tn I have had a angiogram 10 years ago and everything was clear, no blockages anywhere. Now, there is slight angina more often than it used to seem to occur, but when I excercise, nothing hurts, all is well. Blood tests are all OK, but the physician suggested the CT scan.
Avatar n tn ED suggests a circulation issue. A 64 slice CT scan is a safe alternative to a angiogram and does a great job of imaging coronary arteries. If he is developing significant blockages, there are things that can be done to improve circulation.
Avatar n tn three months ago i had a angiogram results 50 to 75 0/0 blockage in left main artery ad i left side of neck. today i was to receive an angioplasty. that did not happen because the Dr. informed me that my all of my arteries were 90 to 100 percent and that i needed bypass surgery. is it possible for the plaque to increase that much in such a short time and what is chelaton therapy?
Avatar m tn Firstly, your cardiologist has taken your pain seriously and investigated appropriately with a nuclear stress test and a coronary angiogram. The second piece of good news is that your coronary angiogram was “clear”, meaning that you do not have any significant narrowings or blockages in your new bypass vessels. I am also pleased to hear that you have attended cardiac rehabilitation and appear to be motivated to continue with regular exercise. So why are you experiencing pain?
Avatar n tn The cardiologist was somewhat concerned and I had a CT angiogram last week. She said it was completely normal - no plaque and no calcification - my heart is in excellent condition. She seems to think it is either musculoskelatal or neurological in origin. I do have herniated discs in my cervical spine (c4-5 and c5-6) and do have alot of neck pain.
Avatar m tn I am going in for an angiogram. I work out almost everyday and thought I was having some asthma attacks. Failed the nuclear tradmill and now am scheduled for an angiogram. At 53 I would like to know if there is any evidence/research that says that Chelation works?
Avatar m tn My dad is 90 years old. He has had stents inserted about 3 times. He has another blockage that needs to be opened up. I took him to the local hospital here in Las Vegas. They performed an angiogram and the doctor tried to insert the balloon without success. He said he could only get it in half way because prior operations had left to much tissue in the way. Is there a chance there is a doctor around that has more experience in this procedure. Is there an alternative course of action?
Avatar f tn I just found out today that my insurance company will not authorize a CT angiogram. Sooo, I will talk to my Dr about alternative medication WITHOUT a CT angiogram. I will keep you posted as to future treatment. Again, thank you!!
