12584065 tn?1436320514 I may not take a supplement after all until talking to my doctor - apparently you can get all you need from walnuts among other nuts, and I have walnuts every morning in my breakfast yogurt and I eat fish about once a week. Might still be a good idea though.
Avatar n tn Mix turmeric powder(haldi), Fenugreek powder(Methi) and ginger powder in equal quantities and keep in a bottle. Take one teaspoon of this mixed powder in hot water twice a day.
Avatar f tn t eat seafood. They have 240mg of DHA and 360mg of EPA in 2 capsules. My doctor told me to take them, but online I've been finding that the fish oil and other things in the over the counter supplements may be bad during pregnancy. The pharmacist told me to stop taking them and check with my Dr but my Dr told me to take them. Just wondering if anyone else is taking extra Omega 3 Fatty acids, and if so, what kind?
Avatar m tn Is there a difference in the amount of vitamins a pill gives out as opposed to a gummy vitamin? The nature made w/ dha are so difficult to swallow.
Avatar m tn If you're waiting several hours to eat and only eating a small amount of Walnuts, I'm sure you'll be fine if you haven't already noticed an issue with them. The main things you need to be careful of are taking supplements (such as calcium) and/or eating large amounts of foods that contain substances that prevent absorption.
566175 tn?1278430472 Maybe my OB prescribes cheapo vitamins...lol. But the ingredients and amount of each is exactly the same in my prescription vitamins as in the Target brand. I asked my MD about generic vitamins, and he said that in most cases they are exactly the same and are often manufactured by the same companies as the name brands.
Avatar f tn m taking the prescription vitafol-ob+dha which is $55 and I was taking bellybar before and during the earlier part of pregnancy which has almost 2x the amount of vitamins but no dha for $13 is it safe to switch back? Is there something else that I am overlooking?
Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
1969424 tn?1353020641 Brainstrong prenatals, I like the amount of DHA and folic acid, I did a lot of reading of labels and they seem to have the most of the important stuff. I started on gummies but then I realized there were some important things that were missing.
907968 tn?1292622204 peanuts are a fantastic food, but in actual fact, peanuts are not really nuts. I believe they are a member of the pea/bean family. I don't think they contain omega-3 but they contain a high level of omega-6 which is the lower of the omega's in fish but more important for blood vessels. There has been lots of research on peanuts and results have shown that they greatly reduce the risk of cardiac disease. They have other benefits too, it has been shown they reduce the risk of colon cancer.
7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
Avatar m tn I remember a couple of decades ago when there was a heatwave in the UK and France. People in France were dying of severe dehydration so the UK announced "drink lots of water, at least 2 litres a day". Everyone started to drink more and water consumption more than tripled. The government panicked and three days later the media said "drinking too much water is more dangerous than not drinking enough".
Avatar n tn Getting the pills you mentioned may have more iron than the little one can take. Prenatals are formulated with just the right amount of vitamins and minerals for a developing baby. If you compare to regular multi vitamins, you'll see that measurements for those and minerals are different.
871965 tn?1241833146 As many others have already said as long as the prenatal vitamin has 1mg of folic acid you should be good. Folic acid must be available in the body at the time of conception, that is "before is more important than after". I have found that the prenatal vitamins differ significantly on the amount of "iron" contained in the pill. I think this is because the "iron" is what can cause nausea/vomiting in some people.
Avatar n tn Gel caps have less fillers and dissolve quickest so you will absorb them quicker. I also take an extra 400 mcg of folic acid to equal the amount that in the prescribed kind. These have never made me sick. The tablets your can taste the vitamins I don't taste anything with these. I recommend highly recommend them. They are inexpensive too. My doc said they are perfect. I trust everything that man says. He's a great doc.
1166767 tn?1315427171 im not sure that there is a big difference in the prescription ones, i think the prescription vitamins might just have a higher amount of stuff in it. i am taking prenexa which is a prescription vitamin but before i got to my ob at 12 weeks i took an otc vitamin that i got from winn dixie. i also purchased extra calcium & folic acid.
Avatar f tn I love the nature made with dha. I take an extra folic acid of 400 mcg to equal the amount in a prescription prenatal. Never had an issue with sickness or nausea. Good luck!
Avatar m tn After pooling and reviewing studies using a total of 1,000 mg to 6,000 mg of EPA and DHA, those in which EPA was 60% or more of the total showed a highly significant improvement, whereas those that were less than 60% EPA did not.

Avatar f tn Hi, Ladies. I got some info from my doctor recently and wanted to pass it along. As we know, Omega-3 is supposed to be really important for the baby. But my doctor is not convinced that prenatal vitamins really help (who knows what's really in them, right?) and believes in going to the source for the nutrition I need. During my last visit, she turned me on to flax seed, which you can get in the natural foods stores.
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
Avatar f tn I bought some prenatal vitamins and they came in a pack with DHA vitamins. Does anyone know what they are or if they are ok to take??
Avatar m tn All nuts are classified as fatty foods, but most have a small amount of carbohydarates and protein in them too. This chart tells you how many grams of carbohydrates and fat are in different types of foods and are grouped by type of food. Go down to the Nuts and Seeds area and you will find the carbohydrates, protein and calorie amounts for the different types of nuts: http://whatscookingamerica.net/NutritionalChart.
349463 tn?1333571576 I read many reviews, and finally decided Naturmade prenatal With DHA. can any one tell how many % of each minerals we require during TTC.
Avatar f tn For instance, you could be not allergic to walnuts or sugar by themselves, but you could be allergic to the combination of the two. Or maybe you are o.k. with walnuts, but baked walnuts give you trouble. Allergies seem to be treated more successfully by alternative practitioners, but I would stick with licensed chiropractors, or an N.D.. Also, check out a method called NAET (Nampudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique), again, an alternative treatment, but well worth considering.
1885735 tn?1322375616 Fish oil with dha and epa.
13663674 tn?1431713461 t not recommended the gummies prenatal because it did not contain enough of certain vitamins like folic acid or DHA but if I wanted gummies I would have to take additional folic acid.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
