Avatar f tn Okay I have cats and my husband changes the cat box for me but my mom has a lot of cats and I never changed the cat boxes at her house but I could smell them ( she is also never home and leaves them there at her house with nobody there with them) she would clean the house but I still could smell it she also had a dog in the house.
Avatar f tn So, a bit of TMI. I'm 8wks with my first and am noticing a strong ammonia smell when I use the bathroom and my belly is pretty hard and bloated. Anyone else experienced this? I plan to call my Dr tomorrow and also have an appt for my first ultrasound on Friday. Hoping I just need to drink more water but def really worried until I can see a Dr.
Avatar f tn First let me say that I am NOT a veterinary professional in any capacity, however I've fostered rescue cats and kittens for 6 years. Our rescue group uses Ponazuril to treat coccidia, and I do myself, in fact I just treated a crew of 15 today (adults and kittens). I have never had a problem with it myself nor has anyone else in our group had a problem with it either that anyone in the group knows of.
Avatar m tn This is going to take a while to explain. My wife's cat passed away and we went to the shelter and adopted three cats The first two are adult twin male cats Ben & Jerry that someone dropped off because they were moving they are two of the most sweetest declawed cats. The other cat is a female cat named Cali and we were given three kittens now all of the sudden they came down with an upper respiratory infection and it has spread to all of me twelve cats.
Avatar f tn The worry is toxoplasmosis which is a micro organism which can be contained in some cats with no signs. I have 6 cats and am a veterinary technician. Have someone else clean the box or wear gloves. You will be fine.
Avatar f tn Oh and when can i get her fixed cause her urine is starting to get the ammonia smell and im not liking it too much.
Avatar n tn The shedding you'll have to live with and just brush her daily. Is she receiving a good quality cat food (i.e. not one of the grocery store brands that contains as the main ingredient ground corn?). As far as the inappropriate urination, make sure you clean up the area so the smell of the urine doesn't remain (don't use ammonia). The cat will continue to be attracted to these places.
Avatar n tn I have it and my P and A levels have always been high, which simply shows good liver function in spite of . You trust your doc?
212705 tn?1221624250 My dog Bugsy is now blind and deaf...not much help there. And the kitty cats...only want what they want when they want it. If they don't get there way...there go the Christmas lights.Glad to have them around me anyway It's a bit concerning. I wouldn't have known about a seizure unless the medics hadn't informed the dr.s...so of course, I'm thinkin' it could happen here at home. Better stay nicely dressed with makeup on...house tidy....get the piles of laundry done....
9171934 tn?1405183632 Kitties just have ammonia in the urine and while it smells super nasty it won't harm the baby because its not concentrated enough. Breathing is safe, touching not so much.
Avatar f tn The pregnancy tracker says to not clean out your cats litter box due to parasites in the feces. I'm curious as to whether this is true for both cats AND dogs. I have a new puppy and she still occasionally poops in the cage at night. If I'm extremely careful of not getting it on me and washing my hands and arms thoroughly afterwards....will I be OK from catching those parasites? I'm approximately 7wks pregnant and I want to make sure I keep my growing baby healthy.
Avatar n tn MSM is not recommended for anyone with a CBS gene mutation, (very low prevalence) as this will cause intolerance to sulfates or other forms of sulfur, resulting in excess ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn but sometimes straining to go to bathroom, belching and burping, white spots in stool and yesterday a little blood in the stool. At the time I met with the gastro doctor, was asked if I had blood in stool and I hadn't then. I spoke with someone in his office yesterday and told her about the blood and she said, oh that's not natural.......scared me to death as I had a friend who died of colon cancer six years ago...
Avatar f tn Its for a different reason than the lunch meat so I've never heard of the coralation between the cats eating raw meat and the litter box. I thought it was due to the ammonia but I'm not 100% sure. Either way I'd avoid it as much as possible.
Avatar m tn I would like someone's advise, my 9 wk old granddaughter has not been feeding, crying a lot, and restless her parents have 2 house cats that are urinating about the small apartment and they have never been outside could this cause her syptoms she has attended hospital and had a lumber puncture but her parents are not telling the doctors about the small living space or anything just that she not feeding, they have now changed her food again onto a high protein formula this is the third change o
Avatar f tn The vet who was talking to the couple and she went into the room where the catboxes were, and commented on the smell, and she had handheld meter that she set down on the floor. It measured ammonia in the air. OSHA has limits of something like 25 ppm for people working in industry, apparently over that amount of ammonia in the air is bad for the lungs. As they were talking, the meter went over 25, then over 40, then over 60, then I think it stopped in the 70s or 80s.
Avatar f tn I agree with annajolly. We had two cats and got rid of them due to the ammonia smell and didn't want to even take the chance of the cat jumping into the crib and smothering the baby. Especially if they sleep with u they will think they can sleep in the babies crib too. It was easier for me to get rid of my cats cause I'm more a dog person anyway. Hope you work it out safely for your babies sake.
741741 tn?1294287610 I dont have cats anymore and I am not pg, but when I took out my trash, the smell just made me think about... Wouldnt that be nice if while we were pg. we didnt have to change diapers!! lol Thanks again!!
7891785 tn?1397535607 Ammonia can be harmful but cover your face and wear gloves. The real risk is contracting toxoplasmosis. Which is food borne but also can be caused by exposure to feces. I have a cat, and scoop the box every couple days. Its not a big deal.
1358341 tn?1282213443 And I had a dog that was killed with poison by a thief, and one of my cats that died because/related to of the fluids (that can also save cats), I felt the infection getting on him and making him cold. I don't think I am a bad buyer if I just buy for my beloved cat, and I think I deserve attention and understanding if I am worried of the future. Perhaps I am exagerated, perhaps I am not but only I can't proof I could dominate situation like a man does, but I can't change how I am.
Avatar f tn That's not the problem. The problem is the pee and ammonia in the poo. If you use a mask like dentists use and gloves. Or just cover your mouth and nose with a plastic bag. (Don't suffocate) and clean it. Then you're fine. Otherwise you'll have to send the cat out. Eventually I did. I always refused to take my cat out but it became a hassle to be taking extra caution.
Avatar f tn I've talked to my midwife about this since we have a sandbox (which ends up being a community litter box) and she said that since I've had cats most of my life, I'll probably be okay and so will baby, even if I clean the litter box daily. She did say, as a precaution, to wear a bandana or something over many nose and mouth while doing so.
Avatar f tn And most of the things you hear about cats and pregnant women and babies is old wives tales. So don't get rid of kitty. However have someone change the litter box, due to risks associated with that.
9138366 tn?1410257233 I agree, cats walk in their own feces and pee in the litter box and can be unsanitary around you during pregnancy and newborns. Their pee has ammonia and their feces has a specific bacteria that is harmful to pregnant women. I have a white chinchilla that Is like a baby. She likes to hop on my belly which she never has before.

Avatar f tn Tonight when i googled having a new baby around a cat there was good and bad, but the bad was really really bad. Including horror stories of babies getting really sick and even some of babies being killed by cats. Am i the only one who now has a healthy fear of Google? It seems to make me more paranoid an freaked out then it helps. I do believe i'm gonna leave the baby questions to my doc and you lovely ladies.
541196 tn?1293556536 I think it was his unhappiness about the other cats being in the house and he targeted my brother. Cats are smart creatures and so maybe give him a little more attention and do some of the things mentioned above and it will stop. Rusty lives in my house now (my mother lives with hubby and I now) with my 4 other cats and he does not urinate at all anywhere but the litter box now. I agree with you that declawing does not do all that people say it does.
1073863 tn?1256691990 they have products with an enzyme that will do this, the area that was pee'd on will need to be cleaned with this product. Bleach/vinegar/ammonia and such products as you may have already found out will NOT work. good luck.
Avatar n tn sounds nasty, clean the litter box now and then, I have liver problems and have a cat, and I don't have a problem with her. Never heard of ammonia causing irritation of the liver but it would nauseate me.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
