Amitiza medication treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza medication treatment

amitiza

974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
605458 tn?1539228808 Is it to prevent a side effect, such as nausea, or does it have something to do with how the medication works?
Avatar n tn Having said all of the above there is one difference I noticed with the Amitiza and that is the medication has greatly reduced the syncope episode I was having during a bowl movement which were occurring about once a month. Since I have been prescribed a Amitiza, which was about six months ago, I only had one syncope incident which by itself is a help to me. I hope my brief exegesis helps.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
Avatar n tn This is on top of a strong oral medication (Amitiza) and magnesium. With Miralax, I get the stuff in the bottle and take 1 1/2 capfuls once a day and as needed.
Avatar f tn Long story short, am now beginning treatment with Gabapentin ( just started and will gradually increase) and Amitiza, which seems to do nothing. On bad days, I use Tigan or Zofran for nausea. Today, I don't feel so bad but Saturday I was in bed all day horribly sick.i now eat very little and am losing more weight. Connection or not, this all seemed to start after treatment for a tooth infection with Clyndamicin. Oh, I was treated twice for SIBO, felt better and now worse again.
946915 tn?1271941032 Thanks and yes...I've had all the tests you mentioned above done. The only ones that showed anything was the CT scan showed a small kidney stone and the gastric emptying scan showed moderate to severe gastroparentsis. I need to work on the multiple smaller meals...I typically try to keep semi-healthy snacks at work and just eat dinner. I do try to eat low-fat...maybe I'm eating fiborous things and don't realize it. We tried amitiza and it did nothing...
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar f tn This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.
Avatar f tn I am not on any medication for the gastric distress they have described as epigastric pain. The last attact was sudden onset and quite severe. Not having a diagnosis at this point, I have concerns the pain will return. I've had mild abdominal pain for several months. I've lost more than 10 pounds since the symptoms worsened as my appetite decreased. Any suggestions for how to pursue a diagnosis at this point.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar n tn I have tried everything from high fiber diet, miralax, enemas, and I have been on Amitiza and Sentakot for three days and to no avail. I researched some on the internet and I am concerned that the gastrointestinal issues are from macrocyctic anemia (b-12 or pernicious anemia) from what I can figure from my symptons and blood work. What is the treatment for such? Whom would I see regarding this? What other methods will relieve the constipation? I am very miserable and feel awlful 24/7.
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
Avatar m tn hi everyone , im 24 male and have been having alot of stomach / intestine problems for about 6months , my doctor thinks its ibs and a stomach ulcer but any ibs treatment i,e antispasmodics he gives me makes everything werse , i disagree that i may have ibs because i have been using alot of pain medicine since june 2009 i,e codiene , tramadol ,ibuprofen and amitrtiptyline for a nerve condition i have so i believe that it could be something else , my gp is reluctant to reffer me to a specialist or
Avatar m tn Was told to take stool softeners with generic vicodin daily to prevent constipation. While on medication, I had NO bowel movement for 1 week. Per pharmacist recommendation, I began taking an over-the-counter stimulant laxative daily, in combination with the non-laxative stool softener and generic vicodin. I also stopped eating meat, bananas, and cheese. However, I had NO bowel movement for another week, which equaled 2 total weeks with no bowel movement.
Avatar f tn I also have to take a strong Rx medication - Amitiza - but due to the expense, you will want to avoid that if possible. It costs hundreds of dollars every month, but without it my system shuts down. Besides the long and twisted colon that a scope could not get through, I have Celiac disease.
1704915 tn?1357601254 I also have colonic inertia and a tortuous colon, but I have small intestine, stomach, and rectal problems too so my case is a little different from yours. For the constipation I have tried Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium Citrate, Docusate, Doculax, Senokot, Lactulose, Amitiza, and probably some others that I am forgetting. I am tube fed so my diet doesn't really apply.
Avatar m tn For about six months I've been having muscle weakness and discomfort. I have this constant urge to stretch, but the stretching never helps with the discomfort. I also feel like my wrists are always clenched and they sometimes hurt. Also, when I'm lying down my arms have this really weak tired feeling. I've also been experiencing lightheadedness as well and it's worse sometimes when I'm standing.
Avatar f tn Hiya! I suffer with IBS, I have had it since a young age, anyway! I can sometimes become constipated, I do eat lots of Fresh fruit and Veg, I don't eat high sugar sweets/junk food!
Avatar m tn Ive been suffering from chronic constipation for approx 6 years now. I was first diagnosed with IBS but that doesn seem to be the case.. no medication or laxative have ever worked. I went for a colonoscopy last year, after taking movicol for 4 days prior and the prep to clean out the colon before the procedure, not much came out & there was still waste in the colon. Specialist reckons I have a slow moving colon, meaning it doesn push stuff out quick enough.
