Altace and hyperkalemia

Common Questions and Answers about Altace and hyperkalemia

altace

Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
Avatar f tn 3 mEq/mL) of patients. This case report describes hyperkalemia in a 72-year-old female with diabetes and underlying chronic renal failure receiving metoprolol. Chronically, potassium balance is maintained by the kidney. In acute situations, such as a larger than normal potassium load, both the kidney and the body's cells react to maintain normal potassium levels.
Avatar m tn Sorry you wife took a turn for the worse and had to be admitted. Here is a link to some information on high potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia). http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/hyperkalemia-causes-symptoms-treatments Quote: "If you have hyperkalemia, you have too much potassium in your blood. The body needs a delicate balance of potassium to help the heart and other muscles work properly.
Avatar f tn Why is my systolic blood pressure still high when I am taking Altace. My diastolic blood pressure is normal when I take Altace. Why the difference. Could I have angina since I have had pain in my chest around the heart area and in the middle of the chest. Also, could I have arterialschlorsis from the high systolic blood pressure? This discussion is related to high systolic normal diastolic blood pressure?.
744427 tn?1239379163 As for hyperkalemia, this can be life threatening if it is extremely high and needs to be treated promptly. Please let us know how you make out with your Dr's appt.
Avatar f tn Have you checked in with your eye MD?
Avatar n tn this sounds like a question for a medical professional , and you should be prepared to give some history.
Avatar f tn I take Toprol XL 200 mgs. and Altace 20mgs. and have for many years however recently I have experienced an increase in blood pressure. I have lost some weight and continue to diet as well as exercise. My doctor has tried two calcium channel blockers with the results that I become very ill and unable to continue these medications. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Except for hyperkalemia, T wave abnormality alone is not diagnostic of any particular condition. There is no connection to MS. Additionally a "T" wave abnormality requires supporting evidence with other tests and relevant signs and symptoms. You shouldn't be too concerned about a EKG test as it is often false positive...it is only a tool for further dx. Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. take care.
Avatar n tn My 7 week old daughter, who was born five weeks premature has been having issues with hyperkalemia. Her pediatrician and the kidney specialist she had been consulting with order more labs and an ekg at our local childrens hospital. Today I got a voicemail saying that the potassium levels had went down, but all the other labs like the cretin check where abnormal and she was waiting to her from the kidney specialist. She also said that her ekg was abnormal.
Avatar f tn IS IT OK to take hypertension medication (such as IC Cartia 360 mg, Atenonlol 12.5 mg and Altace 10 mg.) 5 hours before having an Endoscopy? Would the pressure go to low with the anesthesia or go to high without the hypertension medications?
Avatar f tn My tingling/numbness sensation has come full force with my hands and feet, arms and legs. Coupled with a sick feeling in my stomach and major dizziness. I really want some suggestions. I feel like the doctors think I am crazy. All the tests have come back "normal" yet I feel awful! I go back to my internist, rheum, and neurologist next week....what should I keep pressing them to do? Tests?
15695260 tn?1549593113 Common medications in this class of drugs are commonly used medications such as captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil or Zestril), perindopril (Aceon), ramipril (Altace) and trandolapril (Mavik). It should be noted that this research was not done as a clinical trial but rather an 'observational study' where older adults with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia were being studied. About a quarter were on ACE inhibitors and they observed this benefit.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new here I just had an ECG done and it say left axis deviation, is this serious in worried sick. I'm female 29 years and have recently had palpitations. Has anyone else had this on there ECG was it serious?
Avatar f tn I have a handout that Cleveland Clinic gave me from their syncope clinic that recommends 5g (=5000 mg) sodium/day so that's what I aim for, though I don't use tablets or anything, I just salt load in my diet (hello, soy sauce! haha). For potassium, I'm in the same boat as halbashes and I'm on Rx Potassium supplementation.
Avatar n tn I had an ejection fraction that over the years has decreased to 20% and in the last six months it quickly returned to 60% indicated by measurements from both an echo and MUGA testing. The symptoms of CHF have not changed, so the blood flow per beat has not increased. Why has the EF increased so greatly and what would it indicate?
907729 tn?1244174363 I am a 41yr old female I have Type II diabetes, hypothyroid, and I have heart disease and heart failure. I am severely obese and have tried many diets and also exercise.. I have been overweight most of my life. I need to loose weight for my health. I need to get heart sugery, but they won't do it based on my weight. I want to know if I would qualify for the gastric bypass surgery.
Avatar f tn Wouldn't an Ace Inhibitor work better? I was on Altace and had problems. Then they put me on the Lopressor (metoprolol) along with the Altace. The altace lower my blood pressure too much, so I stick with the beta blocker and leave out the ace inhibitor. That works for me. But man oh man, I cannot run out of the beta blocker without servious side effects. Maybe in this case using both would help more.
16467414 tn?1448304929 Too much potassium is called Hyperkalemia and it can be extremely deadly if not treated. I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. I found out what Hyperkalemia does to you the hard way. It can kill you if levels are very high, almost did me in! Symptoms of it are muscle fatigue, weakness, paralysis, abnormal heart rhythms, and nausea.
Avatar m tn T-wave abnormalities requires further evidence and except for hyperkalemia (electrolyte) the T-wave alone is not a diagnostic of any medical issues. Conditions to be considered with T-waves will usually be abnormal in ventricular hypertrophy, LBBB, chronic pericarditis, and in electrolyte abnormality. Whether to see a cardiologist would depend on whether you have any supporting symptoms, health history, family history of cardiac disease, etc.
254714 tn?1316613355 It is clinically important if ST segment is elevated or depressed as it can be a sign of ischemia (diminished blood/oxygen supply) and hyperkalemia (excessive potassium). The ST segment is important because it can show whether ischemia or infarct is present. In general, an ST segment depression (greater than 1mm) indicates ischemia while elevation (greater than 1mm) generally indicates infarction. This is applicable to an EKG with 12 leads.
Avatar m tn It has been working for me without questions. I am on Cholesterol meds and hypertension meds(Metoprolol, Altace and Norvasc) which I have been taking for the last two years. Recently I used some viagra two hours before an encounter with my date. I started drinking after the taking the Viagra. The viagra did not work....I took another one and waited awhile and it still didn't work...I took one more and waited a while with no results....

Avatar m tn I have had 3 heart attacks and 3 stents in RCA. I continued to have angina. I had alot of episodes that would wake me out of a dead sleep. I was put on Norvasc (calcium channel blocker) in additon to Lopressor and Altace. Haven't had any spasms lately. Hope you feel better.
