Common Questions and Answers about Alphagan p side effects

Avatar n tn From doing a lot of reading I understand the best medications are Alphagan-P (morning and afternoon, Azopt (3X/day), and Xalatan (at bedtime). Not sure if you have any opinions on this. Also I would like to buy a tonometer - Is there one that you recommend? We have a meeting scheduled with the Glaucoma specialist. Are there any questions I need to ask. Thanks so much Dr Hagan!
Avatar m tn I was given Alphagan P for elevated pressure post cataract surgery in February in addition to some other glaucoma meds I was on prior to the surgery. I developed a very bad red eye, itching aching eyes, crusty dry skin eyelids, and other visible manifestations. In addition, the Alphagan affected my low light/night vision to the point I was having quite a bit of trouble seeing in other than bright outdoor light.
Avatar m tn I would suggest these actions to address your problem: 1. Get a second opinion from an outstanding cataract/corneal ophthalmologist eye MD. Need to be sure IOL in not out of position, that there is no posterior capsular clouding, that you do not have a different problem such as macular or cornea disease. 2. This problem can sometimes be corrected with an ultra-careful refraction (glasses testing) and wearing "wave-form" glasses all the time like Zeiss iScript lens. 3.
1108194 tn?1378424522 My mother just had her 1st shot of Lucentis. She has a small leak. She is also on Glaucoma eye drops. She is experiencing extreme fatigue and she said her thoughts/memory seem fuzzy. How long do these side effects last? My mother is a small person who doesn't take any other medications except for the eyes. She works out everyday. She isn't up to that either. Does she have to get these every 4 weeks or can they space them out more or lesser dose?
Avatar m tn Remember your most important eye is eye not had RD have it checked often.
Avatar f tn You said your ophthalmologist felt that was the problem. I said 8 mm pupil in the dark is a problem, will cause symptoms and needs investigated by neuroophthalologist. If you have a big pupil that doesn't react well , and you don't want to try Alphagan-P (of course if you read about it it will list side effects, all medicines have side effects, many thousands of people bleed to death each year from aspirin.
Avatar m tn You keep asking the same question and the answer doesn't change. Alphagan P is for lowering IOP only, not an antioxidant, it is sometimes used to keep the pupil from dilating fully at night after IOL or lasik surgery. No further answers will be given.
Avatar n tn Definitely bring it to the attention of your physician. As chemo treatments go on, risks for infection and other side effects rise. So, I disagree with japdip. The effects of the chemo can be cumulative creating symptoms later in the process that weren't present in the beginning.

Avatar f tn Because the main side effect of bromonidine (alphagan-P) is chronic redness it made no sense to me at all. What I am told by some of the Eye MDs that developed it are the concentration is much less and the basic molecule has been modified in a proprietary way so that the small blood vessels of the eye constrict but then don't get "rebound redness" the way Visine, Murine and other eye whiteners do.
Avatar n tn Dr. Stated Alphagan P was the best he could do with MEDS, and it did not do a thing so wants to do SLT which he says may not work or can make pressure worse. So if SLT does not work are my only options more riskier surgeries! Visual field gave been perfect for last 8 years, do not know if this hemorrhage has caused defects as yet! Are there not some other drops that could help? Hard to believe since I have only tried 3 different drops my options at this early glaucoma time are so limited.
Avatar f tn s talk in the terms of flat/steep.I tried Alphagan P/Brimosun P Eye drops and they do help gettin d vision clear at night but it results into a severe headcahe and heaviness of eyes and even my doctor said it has many side effects so avoid it.This is the worst thing I am facing which almost makes me impossible to go out at night.
Avatar n tn I feel that the surgeon I went to did not do an acceptable job of telling about these side effects. Having to live the rest of my life with these halos is not a comforting thought. The ReSTOR implant gives a pinpoint glare at night, which I think is bearable. My beef is with the ReZoom lens, which gives me a fuzzy, thick halo, day and night, around any point of light, being a bulb, light fixture, reflection, or computer screen.
Avatar n tn wrong advice...aplhagan ( i've used it) has quite a few side effects on the brain..it will constrict your pupils but at a headaching price etc..
677061 tn?1226275988 When it comes to side effects which is more benign as far as cardiac function concerns?
Avatar m tn You would not want to use a strong constrictor of pupil like pilocarpine but you could consult an ophthalmologist about a trial of alphagan-P or see about Botox injections.
Avatar n tn Have your cornea Eye Md refer you to an optometrist and try a rigid gas permeable contact lens to correct the irregular corneal astigmatism. Also try Alphagan-P at night to regulate pupil size. be certain you are not developing an early cataract.
Avatar n tn 5% for almost a year after getting a ReZoom lens inplant and having problems with Halos. My New doctor is concerned about the side effects and had me get a 1/8% ($40) solution made up at a compounding pharmacy and it didn't work at all. He's given me a 1/4% perscription, but as the .5% doesn't always work, I'm afraid it will just be throwing good money after bad. Are the side effects, especially the retina detachment, really such a concern on a .5% (1/2%) solution??
Avatar f tn You can't have two different doctors taking care of your glaucoma. So move on to the recommendations of your new MD> All drugs have side effects. Watch for the beta blocker side effects especially: trouble breathing, profound fatigue or loss of exercise tolerance, slow heart beat, low blood pressure, chronic cough, wheezing and cold feet.
Avatar f tn I rarely use Alphagan-P anymore. It is usually expensive and latanoprost is a much better choice for most people. It is inexpensive and once per day dose. The rest of you statement/questions I can't answer. There is no scientific evidence that those supplements lower IOP. Remember IOP changes from hour to hour and varies 6-12 pts/day.
Avatar m tn and confirmed Aberrometry within normal limit...he suggested to try Alphagan P which completely removed the issue of ghosting and glare this was a year ago but now when I try it ,, it removes the dysphotopsia by 85 percent so something is progressing here and I don't know what it is ...
