Depending on how far along you are you can take benedryl, my dr says 20 weeks. (Every dr is a little different)
Your OB should at least be able to okay you maybe taking an alergy med like Alavert, call and ask. There is no reason they can't just say 'yes' or 'no' and yiur General isn't an expert in pregnancy so he won't know what's safe.
Today she seems much better and there seem to be fewer sores, so I was wondering if it would be okay to give her Alavert instead since it is non-drowsy? She weighs 12 lbs. If it's okay, do I give her a quarter of a tablet, and can I give it for 3-4 days or until she seems better?
I absolutely hated Zyrtec (Cetirizine hydrochloride). I did not respond well to Alavert (Loratadine) either. I found the Atarax (Hydroxyzine) helps a lot. I also responded well to the no drowsiness version of Allegra D.
However given my husband is allergic to lots of things and in his case antihistamines do not help as much as an allergy shot (which work like a charm but he refuses to get)
It might help to experiment with a few of these things and perhaps have a few topicals on hand.

hi folks, thought I'd ask you wise, wonderful ppl for ideas for allergy relief. I've tried every thing I can think of even got a allergy shot from doc, didn't even help one day. I've tried Alavert , zyrtec and nose sprays, benadryl works but I don't want to sleep all day. If anyone has any suggestion I'd love to hear them. I just need to get through the 1st freeze of the year, it's the dried up pollion that's making me sneeze, itchy throat and ears.
(sorry) or if I take the steroid I can cough up huge yellow inch long mucus plugs. I take Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin, Flonase and singular, albuterol nebs and inhaler, also famotidine 2x daily I was on advair for 2months and he said stop because it did nothing for me other than change sputum from slimy to chunky and is quite pricey for no results.
Well I have had Hashimoto for the past 10 years, and I also have had allergy problems and have taken Allegra D for the past 4 years. I don't think allegra had anything to do with my hashimoto/hypothyroid.
Thanks for the tips! I am still hurting. I've been told by 'transplant' neighbors that they had similar troubles when they moved to this area from where they did live all their lives. I am still on antib and will start taking an allergy med (Zyrtec) tonight along w/ Sudafed, I guess.
Ask a pharmacist. I'm taking alavert d and robitussin. You can also take zyrtec if it's more allergies. Get lots of vitamin c.
In the first place Zyrtec tends to make you drowsy and Allegra tends to perk you up. It would be pretty weird to take them together. I take Zyrtec daily and when my allergies act up I take a single dose of Benadryl which is short-acting. that works well for me.
s when I decided to try the Allegra for the Paxil, problem. Just to let you know, I ended up taking 1/2 of an Allegra and the symptoms went away again. I woke up this morning feeling fine. The zaps usually start late in the day and are not bad.
Just to reassure everyone....I have a doctor appointment Monday morning at 9am!!! I will not, however, take another Paxil! Thanks for all you help and input..
Is it safe to take both Allegra-D and Zyrtec. In short, I suffer from allergies. I find that I feel best when I take a single pill of Allegra-D in the morning and a single pill of Zyrtec at night. In part, I have been doing this because I haven't had to go to the doctor (or Canada) to get more Allegra D so I can take it twice a day. I was wondering what the possible side-effects, besides fatigue, are of the regimen I'm taking? I've felt much better since beginning it.

Congratulations! If you were my patient, I would advise you to take the absolute minimum medication that you can get away with during the first trimester especially. BUT having said that, Allegra is pregnancy category C which means that it CAN be used in pregnancy if the benefits out weigh the risks.

Something alarming happened today. I took two allergy pills around 10:00pm. Around 12 pm I had a baowel movement. The stool looked... fluffy. Not diareah (-sp?) like, but spongy. There were two white things floating. When I looked closer I realized they were the allergy pills I took. It was Allegra D. Could this be the reason they haven't been working like they used to? I mean, they hardly looked like the outer coating was gone. Should I go to the doctor? Be alarmed? That was kinda freaky.
Benadryl is safe.
I would sit tight till they open. These are such new drugs and only your Dr can give you the green light. You don't want to risk SVR unless you know for sure.

I have really bad allergies and can usually get away with just Zyrtec but this year they are way worse and my doc told me to switch it up and try Claritin or Allegra the Allegra seems to work the best when I also take a sudafed but don't take the combo one just plan Allegra and plain sudafed.
My oldest son is on Risperdal,as well as three other meds. He has done quite well with Allegra for seasonal allergies, and even better with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is OTC but allegra is not. Both are well tolerated with Risperdal. Benaadryl is not good with Risperdal. My son, age 17, is zonked out when he takes both. He basically is out like a light and doesn't wake up in the morning (until about 12 hours later) the few times he has taken it. Not good at all.
