Avatar f tn 45 year old female had a ECG in 2006 results showed LVH. I just had another ECG done 2007 showed left artial enlargement. Does LVH cause left artial enlargement if left untreated? or what does cause LVH AND OR LEFT ARTIAL ENLARGEMENT?
Avatar m tn If the LVH is due to HBP and the BP is gotten under control there can be some improvement because the LVH is not a true muscle disease of the heart. Some people live many years with LVH, some do not, especially if the disease is discovered during childhood. For some, a heart transplant is the only way they will survive.
Avatar n tn tends to be where the ventricle becomes bigger as well as the walls the heart muscle thickens to some extent in anyone as a result of regular intense workouts However ECG LVH is more often than not an indicator that LVH really exists and would be confirmed on echo The common scenareos are high blood pressure (not evident in your case) Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (needs an echo to see, and check family history) or exercise (physiological LVH) and that
1674823 tn?1307263620 The reason I wonder about whether the exercise as a cause is that I read an article in Maedica, an online clinical journal, in fact a paper about differentiating between physiological and pathological LVH, as well as some other materials I have read. Apparently, it cannot be assumed that LVH in a hypertensive is pathological, though often it is. If there is an intensive engagement in exercise it can have the same result of LVH developing.
Avatar f tn ALL of the walls of the heart tend to become thickened, not just one or a few as in true LVH. When a diagnosis of LVH is questioned, the first thing a doctor looks at is the exercise level of the patient; is he or she an athlete? If the diagonis is being made on a child, the answer is always LVH. Like all of the body's muscles, the heart muscle is no different when it comes to strengthening and enlarging due to exercise.
Avatar m tn what is the life span? I have LVH but echo says normal. No thickness, I have high Blood pressure and i am on medication ace inhibitor.I do workouts cardio and strength training on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with LVH at age 17. Although my LVH was very borderline. Most important thing is to keep his blood pressure down to prevent it from getting worse, this sometimes can lead to improvement of the LVH as well. Also it's important to continue exercising. Depending on how just how severe his LVH is he might have to stay away from sports that need a lot of short bursts of speeds (sprinting, jumping etc), but he should be able to still jog.
Avatar n tn MY HUSBAND IN 2004 HAD A MINOR HEART ATTACK AND WE DISCOVERED HE HAD LVH AND HE WAS PUT ON A STRICT DIET AND CHOLESTOROL SINCE THIS HE HAS BEEN GETTING SOME PAIN IN HIS CHEST AND HE HITS HIS CHEST AND I AM WORRIED I KNOW THAT I NEED TO TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR BUT HE REFUSES TO GO. I AM WONDERING IF THIS MEANS THAT THE LVH DISEASE HE HAD HAS BEEN PROGRESSING? PLEASE ADVISE ON THIS CONCERN.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist in Kentucky diagnosed me with LVH with a thickness of 1.5mm. What's the difference between LVH and HOCM at this size? He has no family history of me I only know my mom (no heart probs) I don't know my dad who is black I am mixed. I'm 24 yrs old could this be HOCM and how do you tell the difference?
Avatar f tn they are only okay at assessment of chamber size, such as LVH. In fact, LVH is frequently overcalled on ECGs. If there is true LVH, causes can be from highly trained exercise, from obstruction of the outflow of the left side of the heart, or from a disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic abnormality of the heart muscle. If he is otherwise normal, the likelihood of true LVH is low.
Avatar m tn It is essential that you control your hypertension as best as you can to prevent further progression of LVH. LVH refers to the thickening of the heart muscle as a response to high blood pressure. It is not uncommon to have erectile dysfunction accompany hypertension. To answer your questions specifically 1. Can I still play soccer with my LVH? yes, as long as you have been seen by a physician and they have said that aerobic activity is ok 2. Will this lower my life expectancy?
Avatar m tn it was like 164/80 Only other question I have is can Pericarditus look like Lvh on a echo? My lvh was concedered mild/moderate(cardiologist) then 4 months later my family doc said I had pericarditus(inflamed sack around the heart) showed on EKG...then 4 months after that I went to the er for pains they said all looked normal no signs of pericaritus or thickened heart? So I'm wondering if it can be mistaken as LVH?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with LVH thickness was (1.5) last year, i have been active in sports and working out all of my life and i was recently put on losartan and spirolactone for it and blood pressure. My blood pressure now stays around 125/135 over 60-75. I am wondering at what point is surgery needed for lvh and how serious is mine? I am very young and im hoping im ok. Its a scary thing just being told you have lvh then kind of left in the dark.
Avatar m tn Recently, I have experienced a major drop in my blood pressure which is usually around 82/48. I have had a high pulse rate since before I was diagnosed with LVH. It has been ranging from 124-154 resting heart rate and upon exertion it goes far beyond 200bpm. I am also experiencing being lightheaded, dizzy, and near passing out ( I haven't passed out but, I did get the tunnel vision with sweating).
Avatar m tn one year back i had an eco test in which it was normal no LVH, all wall motion normal, but recently in a camp that was organised in our office for health checkup the eco was done and result was mild LVH, where as i am not having too much high BP it is the range of 110-120 with 25mg revelol xl, my question is , can it be changed in one year from normal to mild lvh even when i am on medication?
Avatar m tn Me to develope moderate LVH(left ventricular hypertrophy) at an early age. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, I am now 25 years old. I've played sports through high school, I still workout and play pick up basketball. I've been on meds since diagnosed with the exception of finding the right meds. Everywhere I look it treats Lvh as a death sentence...one site said 70% of patients font live 5 years after being diagnosed....I'm 6'2 240 but I have a decently muscular body style.
Avatar m tn I was hoping someone knew about lvh survival rates and if anyone had this around my age. I have been on hypertension meds for almost a year and a half. Decently controlled 130/70. I'm very active playing basketball about everyday, 2-3 hours a day sometimes 4. I'm 6'3 and I'm in good health otherwise I suppose. This has me worried my doctor has me on no limitations as of exercising. Lvh was a thickness of 1.5 or 0.5 and he's said everything else was fine.
1674823 tn?1307263620 I have an issue. I had an echo this year that was reported as showing LVH at 1.3 mm I wanted the docs to c onsider whether exercise had c aused this The technicians 1.3mm was changed by the consultant to "1.0 mm to 1.2mm " images enclosed Surely this is a wide margin of change, what advice would anyone have for me. 1.0mm is well under the LVH margin and 1.3mm is within it. It feels very strange to me to be redefined.
Avatar n tn I'm 40yo female. I've done three ECG tests which indicate possible LVH. A chest X-ray showed normal results and all blood tests are also normal. ECHO is schedule in a few months. Meanwhile can you help me understand the bellow ECG results - how severe are they, should I be resting etc. Thank you! 1. abnormal ECG - sinus rhythm. probable LVH with secondary repol abnrm 2. borderline ECG - sinus rhythm. consider left ventricular hypertrophy 3. borderline ECG.
287996 tn?1312023682 In a normal heart, they are usually not of concern. They usually happen because we expect them and because we are nervous during exercise, fear of having heart failure, overloading the heart, dropping dead, getting a heart attack, you name it. However, in the absence of anxiety symptoms, they (especially if they are PVCs) can be worth taking seriously. From your previous posts, I understand that you are having some cardiac problems (high blood pressure, did you also have LVH on echo?).
