Aliskiren hyperkalemia

Common Questions and Answers about Aliskiren hyperkalemia

Avatar f tn It appears all beta blockers can cause hyperkalemia (higher than normal potassium level). Hyperkalemia secondary to beta-adrenergic receptor blockade can occur in 1% to 5% of patients and is more likely to occur in non-cardio-selective beta-blockers versus cardio-selective beta-blockers. Underlying cause can be excessive potassium intake, disturbed cellular uptake of potassium, or impaired renal excretion of potassium.
Avatar f tn High potassium in your blood (Hyperkalemia) if it's not because of your kidneys function, is associated with some medical conditions eg Lupus, Diabetes, Addison disease, hormonal disorders etc but if there isn't a medical condition causation, it can also be caused by diet and medications.... "Medications that have been linked to hyperkalemia include: -Antibiotics, including penicillin G and trimethoprim.
Avatar m tn You are correct ACE inhibitors may cause hyperkalemia (high level of potassium). It seems potassium is normally excreted by the kidneys, so disorders that decrease the function of the kidneys can result in hyperkalemia. The kidneys normally remove excess potassium from the body. Therefore, most cases of hyperkalemia are caused by disorders that reduce the kidneys' ability to excrete potassium.
Avatar m tn Sorry you wife took a turn for the worse and had to be admitted. Here is a link to some information on high potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia). http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/hyperkalemia-causes-symptoms-treatments Quote: "If you have hyperkalemia, you have too much potassium in your blood. The body needs a delicate balance of potassium to help the heart and other muscles work properly.
744427 tn?1239379163 It is often seen in patients who are in Atrial Fibrillation as well. It can also be seen in people who have severe hyperkalemia (high serum potassium levels). If it is AVNRT type SVT, this is not a life threatening arrhythmia. Atrial Fib is also not a life threatening type of arrhythmia by itself but the risks those with it encounter is that of blood clots that can lead to stroke. So it is critical that people with Afib be treated with anticoagulant medication.
Avatar f tn Except for hyperkalemia, T wave abnormality alone is not diagnostic of any particular condition. There is no connection to MS. Additionally a "T" wave abnormality requires supporting evidence with other tests and relevant signs and symptoms. You shouldn't be too concerned about a EKG test as it is often false positive...it is only a tool for further dx. Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. take care.
Avatar n tn My 7 week old daughter, who was born five weeks premature has been having issues with hyperkalemia. Her pediatrician and the kidney specialist she had been consulting with order more labs and an ekg at our local childrens hospital. Today I got a voicemail saying that the potassium levels had went down, but all the other labs like the cretin check where abnormal and she was waiting to her from the kidney specialist. She also said that her ekg was abnormal.
Avatar f tn I have had jello feeling w/panic attack before. It is possible you are having panic attacks, but your doctor should eliminate all known medical causes for your symptoms before relegating you to a psychiatrist. I also found this for your consideraton on medicine net, a com website: "Sometimes, patients with hyperkalemia report vague symptoms including: nausea, fatigue, muscle weakness, or tingling sensations.
16467414 tn?1448304929 Too much potassium is called Hyperkalemia and it can be extremely deadly if not treated. I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. I found out what Hyperkalemia does to you the hard way. It can kill you if levels are very high, almost did me in! Symptoms of it are muscle fatigue, weakness, paralysis, abnormal heart rhythms, and nausea.
254714 tn?1316613355 It is clinically important if ST segment is elevated or depressed as it can be a sign of ischemia (diminished blood/oxygen supply) and hyperkalemia (excessive potassium). The ST segment is important because it can show whether ischemia or infarct is present. In general, an ST segment depression (greater than 1mm) indicates ischemia while elevation (greater than 1mm) generally indicates infarction. This is applicable to an EKG with 12 leads.
Avatar m tn T-wave abnormalities requires further evidence and except for hyperkalemia (electrolyte) the T-wave alone is not a diagnostic of any medical issues. Conditions to be considered with T-waves will usually be abnormal in ventricular hypertrophy, LBBB, chronic pericarditis, and in electrolyte abnormality. Whether to see a cardiologist would depend on whether you have any supporting symptoms, health history, family history of cardiac disease, etc.
Avatar n tn High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on. that electrolyte just does not have the effects that other imbalances have. But did the doctor treat her potassium level? or do you know what it was?
Avatar f tn Usually, in these cases of a young healthy person, the most common cause of an isolated elevated potassium level is “pseudohyperkalemia” or spurious hyperkalemia. Potassium is a major ion of the body. Nearly 98% of potassium is intracellular, meaning contained within the cells of the body. What happens is that during the blood draw or in the laboratory tube, some of the cells rupture, leaking potassium into the serum.
Avatar f tn Thanks =) The good news is the doctor called me because he read all of my blood work and said I am or have hyperkalemia. Yeah, kind of embarrassing to admit I ate SO many cheese puffs I caused a pretty nasty electrolyte imbalance.
449588 tn?1206421408 Except for hyperkalemia (low potassium level), T wave abnormality alone is not diagnostic of any particular condition. The T wave must be considered along with other wave forms (QRS and ST) segment abnormalities. Then T waves will usually be abnormal in ventricular hypertrophy, left bundle branch block, chronic pericarditis, and in electrolyte abnormality. Abnormal T waves can be seen in some people as a variant of the normal that is just not the most common form.
Avatar n tn Hi Tobias, I am going to assume your cat has been diagnosed with Hyperkalemia, which is a medical term for low blood Potassium. Although I am not a vet or familiar with this condition, when I looked it up on line it seemed to be what your cat was suffering from....and yes the drooping neck is caused by muscular weakness due to the lack of sufficient Potassium.
Avatar n tn Except for hyperkalemia (low potassium), T wave abnormality alone is not diagnostic of any particular condition. The T wave MUST BE considered along with QRS and ST segment abnormalities also displayed with an EKG. Then an inverted T can be associated involving infarction (heart attack), chronic pericarditis (inflammation of heart lining), conduction block (an EKG reading would/should disclose...
Avatar m tn but just after a month she was hospitalized again for 2 days because her potassium went up and she had hyperkalemia. her potassium level went to 10.96 and technically she should be dead already with that level of potassium she was having palpitations, diarrhea and body weakness the night that she was admitted.
Avatar f tn You should NEVER trust advice about medications you get on forums. If you ask this question to a cardiologist on expert forum, he will probably answer that he won't give advice on meds, and neither should lay people like us. I 100% second Ireneo and her opinion on letting doctors handle your meds. It seems you have some kind of bradycardia (slow heartrate) and your BP is low.
