Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
1140169 tn?1370185076 The single ingredient supplement found OTC is D3-cholecalciferol-and the comparable Rx supplement is D2-ergocalciferol. No matter which OTC brand you may choose, it will always be D3. This is also the compound for which our cells have a greater affinity, therefore we can take lower doses to raise our 25(OH)D levels. D3 is naturally derived from animal sources, while D2 is a synthetic analog. For a more in depth explaination, please look to sites like vitamindcouncil.org.

666921 tn?1254990618 does anyone think that the fact some of us 'lymies' feel worse - muscle pain esp.- when the summer weather is over - could be conected with 'low vitamin D' - just curious of others opinions on this.
382218 tn?1341181487 The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and the immunologic effects of supplementation with low-dose and high-dose cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis." http:// clinicaltrials.gov /ct2/show/NCT01024777?
Avatar m tn 1 ratio. Try magnesium chelated with amino acids supplements (do not take supplements if you have a kidney problem). A few websites on magnesium deficiency.... Only 1% of magnesium in the body is actually found in blood, and only .3% is found in blood serum, so clinical blood serum testing may not successfully identify magnesium deficiency.

Avatar m tn I found a vitamin D gel cap that does not contain soy (also says "salt free, wheat free, soy free, yeast free, sugar free, milk free, preservative free, gluten free). Its ingredients are as follows, copied directly from the bottle: "Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), sunflower oil, gelatin, glycerin, water. Other ingredients may include corn oil". ........ It's Carlson Laboratories Vitamin D3 - cost was $8.79 for 120 soft gels.
Avatar n tn I heard that with extended use bones will become more brittle with increased % of fractures occurring. Is this correct? If so, At what point (after how many years) is this a problem?
Avatar m tn @Quincyw33 10,000 is not too much... you may want to go back on many studies here on this group that suggest 10,000 IU daily. 1,000 IU is not nearly enough for people on meds and with Chronic Hep B. There's specific reasons on this. Maybe you were misreading it here, but I am almost certain @stef2011 has had many comments and articles and such about 10,000 IU. Personaly, 5,000- 10,000 IU would be good.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I have a question about a possible underactive thyroid. My mother is 64, 5’3’’, and weighs 160 lbs. Her recent thyroid results were a TSH of 2.97. I have heard that the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists is advocating for the new "normal" range of TSH levels to be reset to .3 to 3, which means my mother would almost be in the high range. Of course, if three is the high range, the optimal range is much lower, probably around 1 to 2, I'm assuming.
732206 tn?1237293122 If you still want to breast feed, suggest just taking multi-vitamins with 100% recommended doses of vitamins and minerals.
Avatar m tn Of course you would have to go over your lab results with your Endocrinologist and he/she would give you a diffinitive diagnosis. I too have an elevated ATG and thyroid nodules. I will go into hyperthyroid and switch to hypothyroid with very little change in my values. Except for now my TSH is .008. You need to be followed be an endocrinologist because it is an autoimmune disease if that is in fact what you have. Some times lab results need to be repeated several times.
760214 tn?1234586591 I know I need to wait a bit before I can take a pregnacy test but I talked to my doctor and she told me that she wants me to be on prenatal vitamins just until she can see me to know for sure. I was so overwhelmed/nervous/excited about the idea that I could honestly be pregnant that I didn't even ask her what prenatal vitamins are! I'm sure you ladies could help me out with this one! What vitamins should I be taking and what food should I (or shouldn't I be eatting?
