Avatar m tn Involvement of the skull is associated with headache along with dysmorphic features. Until recently, the principal treatment has been resection or fracture repair, although the latter is often palliative at best. However, new insight into the molecular mechanism of fibrous dysplasia has led to the use of bisphosphonates to treat this disease.

Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn s, but this has exponentially been exacerbated by Arimidex. For the past 2 yrs I have been taking a weekly bisphosphonate (Alendronate), plus twice daily Calcichew/Vit.D to help prevent further bone loss. Tamoxifen is prescribed for pre-menopausal patients, the AI's for post-menopausal. As I had a full hysterectomy some 19 yrs ago, I could go straight on to Arimidex.
Avatar f tn Damage to the spine is a common side-effect of long-term steroidal use. That is why asthma treatment nowadays uses low-dose inhaled steroids, rather than oral steroids, which are systemic. Opiates don't work too well for spinal pain because the problem is glial cell stimulation which don't have opiate receptors. You need to get a consult with a pain specialist. Ask them about using transdermal lidocaine patches or an electrical TENS device.
Avatar m tn Until recently, the principal treatment has been resection or fracture repair, although the latter is often palliative at best. However, new insight into the molecular mechanism of fibrous dysplasia has led to the use of bisphosphonates to treat this disease. The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery.
Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar n tn t lose my hair when on FEC chemo for breast cancer,as I had the cold cap treatment alongside, but it thinned enough that I could see my scalp on top of my head. 30+ yrs of steroids has thinned my bones significantly, so I was prescribed a bisphosphonate (Alendronate) alongside calcium (Calcichew) and Vitamin D3. My hair is a lot thicker now. You might wish to get tested for Vit.D as I understand that some 50% of the population who do not live in sunny climates, are deficient.
Avatar f tn org/wiki/Levothyroxine Within a month of the thyroid treatment, certainly not stabilized yet, an absolutely huge dental procedure was done on a woman with an already complicated medical history. Yeas, her doc "cleared" her for this, but common sense should have dictated a much more cautious approach.
Avatar n tn Patients taking ARIMIDEX were less likely than those taking tamoxifen to stop treatment because of side effects. See Important Safety Information below, and talk to your doctor to see if ARIMIDEX is right for you.
