Avatar m tn In 2011, the agency voiced concerns that taking the drugs long-term may actually make bones weaker and increase the risk of rare but serious side effects such as atypical fractures of the thigh bone, esophageal cancer and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a rare but painful condition in which the jaw bone crumbles. To investigate, the FDA reviewed data from women who had taken the drugs for six to 10 years.
Avatar m tn last week I had the endoscopy done and they took samples (biopsies) and the results came back positive for cancer of the esophagus. 2 days ago I had to go in and have a CT Scan done and they are awaiting for those results to see if it has spread any where else in my body. I have a feeling once the results are in, probably early next week, I'll be called in for surgery within a week maybe 2. Since I received this bad news, I've been reflecting as to why me?, why do I have cancer.
1384238 tn?1286028762 Sounds like your GERD and/or your Hiatal Hernia are/is worsening. This could be Esophagitis or an Esophageal tear as well. If you think you need Emergent care prior to your scheduled appointment then do so. This definitely needs to be sorted out ASAP. I would recommend you have an Upper GI Endoscopy done along with labs and an occult stool test.
Avatar f tn Does it sound like any symptoms for esophageal cancer? I have been through alot and have a tolerance for pain and for once in a long time i am in a lot of pain. Can anyone please tell me if these or signs of esophageal cancer. I would ask my parents to take me to my doctor but after everything they have been through with my health i rather not bring it up yet.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to know about your husband’s health. Esophageal cancer is a very aggressive cancer. Treatment of stage 4 esophageal cancer usually includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical removal of the affected part of the esophagus. Unfortunately, once it has spread, especially to places like the liver, long-term survival is difficult. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is the most effective treatment modality for patients with metastatic disease.

1387175 tn?1326400997 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Prilosec does not increase your risk of getting esophageal cancer. The thing that is causing you to need prilosec causes the increase in risk of esophageal cancer. So whether or not you take prilosec for your problem, doesn't change you risk of developing esophageal cancer. Have you tried dietary changes to see if that helps your GERD enough so that you don't need prilosec. Have you tried H2 blockers?
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn I am terrified that I have cancer like esophageal or stomach cancer, and I have read that lung cancer can start with dysphagia and reflux. I also read that bulimia is linked to esophageal cancer, and I have been bulimic for some years on and off until recently. I also like to drink hot drinks which is linked to this type of cancer. Doctor not worried becaused I'm young, but Im getting panic attacks and constant worry as I have a new baby and partner that I love.
657416 tn?1224695925 hi, thanks 4 your response, im seeing the doctor today, hopefully all goes well! let you know what comes up,??
Avatar m tn 5 centimeter supra-orbital bone tumor that has been completely stable on scans since 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have had a continuous intractable headache behind my forehead which has not responded to the usual headache therapy regimen. It is believed to be monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the skull. I have found articles to suggest that high-dose bisphosphonate therapy (40 mg/day for 6 months) offers a significant improvement in patients with fibrous dysplasia of the skull.
Avatar m tn My mom has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes but not to other organs. She is 91 years old. My question is twofold. They recomend radiation therapy. Will this help to improve her quality of life and perhaps extend her life, and I would like to know realistically what her life expectancy is with this diagnosis. This discussion is related to esophageal cancer life expectancy.
Avatar m tn It seems that when I look up symptoms for esophageal cancer, hiatal hernia, and GERD, that they all have the same symptoms with the exception of bleeding (which is late in the cancer stages). Knowing that I have a hiatal hernia and GERD, how might I get a clue from symptoms if I were developing esophageal cancer without getting a regular endoscope?
Avatar n tn I also have recurrant Ovarian Cancer, and Crohn's Disease. What medications are you on other than B12 injections? I have found many of the other medications I take other than chemo make my hair fall out. I am currently not taking IV chemo, but still losing hair. I guess I've gotten used to hats, but look forward to the day I don't need them!
Avatar n tn As I had a full hysterectomy some 19 yrs ago, I could go straight on to Arimidex. Yes, estrogen does fuel cancer cells, and after ovary removal, the body does still make small amounts, mostly from the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys Both tamoxifen and AI's block oestrogen to the breast cells, but in different ways. I would consult again with your doctors about oopherectomy and be clear in your own mind why they do not want to remove your ovaries. Hope all goes well for you. Liz.

Avatar n tn Complete eradication was achieved in 77% of 48 patients, with a 10% rate of major complications including hemorrhage, esophageal stricture, and esophageal perforation. Although these observations indicate that high-power APC can eradicate Barrett's epithelium in some patients, it is not clear that this expensive and hazardous therapy conveys any clinical benefit.
Avatar f tn Does esophageal cancer cause white phlegm with tiny bubbles?
Avatar n tn My sister had rectal cancer (Stage IV), it had spread to lung and liver. She had radiation and chemo on and off for 2 years. She lived 2 years and 3 months after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She just passed May this year. Different people tolerate and respond to different treatments, so no one can say for sure how long anyone has to live. My sister was never told how long she had and she never asked.
Avatar n tn well, cancer can strike at any time and without any warning - the good thing is - both are rare - and moreso in someone young. Any symptom that can mimic pancreatic or liver disease can be caused by a "something-oma" - Your doc will run enzyme assays etc if he is concerned. The unfortunate thing about many tumors/cancer is there are no warning signs and once they have taken a foothold - then you get symptomatic.... As for yellowish stools - are they dark - with a yellow cast?
