Aldara to treat molluscum

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara to treat molluscum

aldara

Avatar n tn I used aldara to treat a possible wart on the shaft, and after about a week and a half i got pretty much what you are desribing on my scrotum also ... the skin got really nasty looking and started peeling etc ...
Avatar m tn I'm reasonably careful with them - lightly cleaning them in the shower, applying hydrogen peroxide to the lesions before bed to clean (though this causes some inflammation), and powdering to keep dry. My questions: 1. Since the virus has had substantial opportunity to spread before treatment, should I expect things to get worse before they get better; that is, expect more new papules before the cryotherapy begins to take, and reduce the count? 2.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago I started growing these bumps that I suppose were contracted sexually. Went to the doctor and had them diagnosed as Molluscum. In the process of getting rid of them she put acid on them (2 different sessions) which helped but certainly did not take care of the issue. She prescribed me Aldara, Imiquiod 5%. It is to be used at night and washed off in the morning around 6-10 hours later.
Avatar n tn Molluscum contagiosum is a completely benign infection. There are no complications and it always goes away. I'm not saying to ignore it and I understand your concerns, but don't lose a lot of sleep. It is a trivial condition. There are uncertainties about genital area MC. It is seen pretty frequently in STD clinics, and most cases appear to be sexually acquired. On the other hand, dermatologists also see many cases, often in people in whom sexual transmission doesn't seem likely.
Avatar m tn if the aldara isn't working or you are somehow spreading it to other body parts by touching, perhaps you need these all surgically removed instead of trying the aldara to treat it. not to panic you but no easy way to ask this - do you have any underlying medical issues? also have you been tested for hiv?
Avatar f tn I have been going to a local low-cost clinic and was treated for one initial huge one and have been intermittently self-treating with Aldara and going back to the clinic for review. On my last visit I noticed a few odd papules in my pubic hair and really small, pinhead size "whiteheads" on the shaft of my penis and on my scrotum. I immediately went back to the clinic thinking the warts were spreading from the anal area.
Avatar n tn but that's now what i'd like to ask. i want to know how to treat it. i've noticed some of them disappearing but some are still there. I occasionally put powder on to keep the area dry. i was wondering if the use of 3M Aldara cream would help. i just happen to have some. Could you please recommend me some type of over the counter solution or any type of other treatment. would you recommend removing them in a sterile manner by myself? or would they just grow back?
Avatar m tn Aldara will only clear up small MC bumps, not large MC bumps, which will have to be treated with freezing and/or other removal methods. Although I do intend to keep freezing them, I reached an agreement with the dermatologist that I would use Aldara in between appointments as discussed. He gave me a prescription and I now have Aldara. When i was talking to him about what you had said in regards to MC in general, He said the following.
Avatar n tn I assume you had them cauterized (burned) first then? You could also choose to treat them chemically, say using Aldara (usually used for warts but thought to be effective here as well), or Retin-A. 4) There are treatments you can use to reduce scaring, I'm not sure what they are but you could ask the Dr who is treating you.
Avatar n tn Your doctor is mostly right, and it sounds like he knows how to treat molluscum contagiosum. However, he is wrong about transmission; in adults, the infection is almost entirely sexually acquired. As in your case, lesions occur mostly around but not on the genitals--lower abdomen, scrotum, and thighs are much more common sites than penis or labia. On to your specific questions: 1) The virus may remain latent in some cases, but probably rare.
Avatar n tn 1. He gave me aldara to use to treat it. how long would it take for me to get rid of these molluscum when i start treating them with this cream? what will this cream do to my molluscum? what kind of irritation occurs? do they get inflammed? 2. if i leave them alone will they go away on their own? if they go away does that mean your immune system became immune to it and it wont come back? 3. if i freeze them does it hurt and what is the recovery rate for this procedure.
Avatar n tn I went back to my obgyn. She put acid on them and prescribed Aldara - she told me to wait 3 days and apply twice a day, every day. It was awful. The area near the vagina that she treated with acid blistered all up once I started the aldara, and the top part of my crotch got all inflammed, much worse! I stopped it after 3 days and put neosporin on the blistered one and vinegar and powder on the others. The blister went away in 3 days and that one is a faded lump.
Avatar m tn I'm not as worried about the molluscum because it seems to be easier to treat and less aggressive than the warts. I hadn't had sex for 8 or 9 months when the warts and molluscum appeared, so I know I've been infected with these each of these viruses for at least a year. I was wondering what you recommend the next step for treatment for me should be. Do I have more aggressive strains of these viruses that makes them come back? Or is my body more susceptible to them?
Avatar n tn do i need to do anything to treat my molluscum. i read the forum and there are diff approaches, if i get them treated do they always tend to hurt like freezing them? If i leave them alone they will take longer to go away correct?
Avatar n tn The limits are there to be fair to all who use the site and to keep individuals from dominating it. On to your questions, briefly. The utility of imiquimod (Aldara) for molluscum is marginal. Instead of wasting time, I would suggest you just bite the bullet and get them frozen. All need to be frozen in order to cure you and then to reduce the likelihood of you infecting your GF, your concerns about oral sex, etc. Just go on and get it done.
Avatar n tn 3) There is no reason to suppose any different response to treatmentin people with diabetes, or to natural clearance of either HPV or the molluscum contagiosum virus. To my knowledge, the cell-mediated arm of the immune system, which is primarily responsible for both viruses, is not affected in diabetes, even when poorly controlled. 4) Both. That is, recurrent warts can can involve previously treated spots, the same general area, or both.
Avatar n tn Which did seem to work, however, I shaved my bikini area before I saw my dr, and about 5 days later, I had about 12 more. I used up the Aldara quickly because I needed 2 of their tiny packets to treat them at times. I got a second prescription of Aldara. They really appeared overnight. I felt sick every time I found a new one. I had many plans for the summer, but didn't do any of them. I was afraid of exposing anyone to them.
Avatar n tn After it showed up I went to the doctor to get it removed. The doctor said that I would have to have a follow up treatments, and to come back in a month. The doctor used liquid nitrogen to remove the legions, which is very painful.
Avatar m tn he said it can't be genital wart, it must be molluscum. He said genital wart usually spread very close one to another and it doesnt have anything inside it so when we squeeze it, we can tell difference between a wart and a molluscum bump... Im pretty confused...what I want to ask you guys are... 1. Is it true what the 2nd dermatologist told me? Is it true that genital wart never had anything inside it when you squeeze?
Avatar n tn Sometimes I'm clear in his office but have new ones pop up in between visits which I treat with aldara (irritating to skin)and a few with Retin A. QUESTION: What else can I do? Could this be something other than Molluscum? Any thoughts on colloidal silver treatment. Everthing I read says 2-9 months? Other's experiences?
Avatar n tn Were you seen by a professional yet? The best way to treat molluscum is either to have them removed in the doctor's office or use aldara cream for several weeks/months. I don't recommend trying to remove these on your own at home at this point.
Avatar n tn Imiquimod (Aldara) a topical immune response cream can be applied to the affected area . Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a viral infection of the skin or occasionally of the mucous membranes. Many health professionals recommend treating bumps located in the genital area to prevent them from spreading. Molluscum contagiosum lesions are flesh-colored, dome-shaped, and pearly in appearance. Daily topical application of tretinoin cream ("Retin-A 0.025%") may also trigger resolution.
Avatar n tn Your doc can treat them by freezing them, or can prescribe aldara for you to treat them at home. If you don't have insurance, you can try a Planned Parenthood or std clinic - they can freeze them for a low cost. Most molluscum sores don't last nearly 3 years, though they can. For some good info on this, check www.ashastd.
Avatar f tn I am going to go down to be tested for herpes tomorrow (I was told I had Molluscum by a NP a month ago after having it for about a month but she didn't swab or take any other tests to confirm or deny it, plus the sores in question look different and I'm unsure they were there when I first went down) and I read if the herpes sore isn't new, the result isn't always positive with a swab.. so I would assume it would be best to take a blood test..
Avatar f tn peroxide is non-chlorine bleach. it is no longer recommended for skin care because it's been found to do more harm than good to the skin. It should never be used full strength on skin. Pretty much you gave yourself a chemical burn at this point. your partner will need tested for herpes to know his status. Knowing your status is only half of the picture ( I assume you saying everything came back positive in your post was actually meant to say everything came back negative ).
Avatar n tn The only topicals used to treat MC are Aldara and Retin-A. Anything else is likely to be a scam. Aldara is used more typically, and is available only with a prescription. You can also have them cauterized or frozen, similar to warts. Once one ruptures, be sure to clean up the contents carefully, as the centers of MC lesions contain the virus itself. However, once one breaks apart, normally it will heal just fine.
Avatar n tn Actually lancing molluscum is a way of treating it, the only risk there is it's pretty easy to spread so you have to be very careful to not get the contents of the core on anything. You can also treat it with freezing, burning, Aldara, or Retin-A. One note is a molluscum center is harder and waxy, not so much like more liquid puss. That would be more like just regular acne. I still say, get it looked at to really know what it is.
Avatar n tn I wonder if I would have still had them if I had them removed instead of wasting months with the Aldara. I still needed to see my doctor after the Aldara didn't work on several. I am still being treated 9 months later. I'm not sure how I got them. I wish you luck.
Avatar n tn I'm not exactly worried about it, but I'd like to know what it is. My mind has instantly leapt to genital warts, just because it's right above the shaft of my penis and red, but if it isn't HPV then it's not an STI, as I was checked thoroughly for everything last summer. I suppose I'll have to head to a dermatologist, but I was wondering if this sounds like genital warts? I hear they can be flat, but every picture I've seen of HPV it's at least partially raised.
