365470 tn?1232747095 Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin occurs roughly one-quarter as often as basal cell carcinoma. Light-colored skin and a history of sun exposure are even more important in predisposing to this kind of cancer than to basal cell carcinoma. Men are affected more often than women As with basal cell carcinoma, doctors usually perform a biopsy to make a proper diagnosis. This involves taking a sample by injecting local anesthesia and punching out a small piece of skin using a circular punch blade.
154520 tn?1270164176 Depending on how deep these are and what kind of basal cell they are (there are many kinds). I am doing some research and now looking at radiation therapy vs. mohs. My daughter has an infiltrative/nodular basal cell on her nostril and has been told by several drs. she will need reconstructive surgery which may or may not involve a graft, it may just be a "flap", but either one is invasive and radiation may be an option.
Avatar f tn My daughter has noduloinfiltrative basal cell carcinoma on her nose. We visited two plastic surgeons for the reconstruction after seeing two mohs surgeons. They talked about a "flap". I need the name of someone in south florida that specializes in reconstruction with a good reputation. She is only 31 and will be getting married in a year and would like to have the least visible scar possible.
Avatar m tn Hello, Aldara cream or Imiquimod is used for treatment of actinic keratosis, warts and topical treatment of biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults. It is still not confirmed whether your mole is a malignancy or a mole. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Confirmation can be done by excisional biopsy with narrow margins.
1094370 tn?1317134825 m 32 and have had my fair share of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. I think the cream you are referring to is Imiquimod/Aldara? It is essentially a topical chemo. Generally if it scabs it means it's working. Unfortunately I haven't had great success with it and have had to have the cancer surgically removed. Not sure where you live, but I have fantastic Doctor recommendations in NYC. Let me know if you want more info.
Avatar f tn Hello - thank you taking this question.... Just this afternoon, on a pre-cancerous basal or less legion on the nose (sorry i don't know the terms) that will be sent for biopsy my husband was prescribed Aldaral, 3x a week (mon-wed-fri) for 4 (four) weeks I'm not asking for a diagnosis just curious to know if this seems like a mild/moderate/ or heavy-duty dosage...

Avatar n tn There is no great rush for basal cell or squamous cell like there is with melanoma. To me this looks like a common reaction to sun exposure in someone with Irish or Scottish heritage particularly. If it cracks, bleeds, or has a change in surface texture, then I might suspect basal cell or squamous cell. With such fair skin, if you avoid sun exposure for a year, this will not leave much of a scar probably if you have it snipped off.
Avatar m tn I recently had surgery to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma. My problem is, I think they over did the surgery if you know what I mean. Could somebody please let me know if they agree with me? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hello, This spot on nose can be a fibrous papule of the nose but given the history of basal cell ancer, it is best to get the spot biopsied to rule out any basal cell cancer. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn can basal cell carcenoma be life threatening? My daughter has a basal cell carcenoma on her nose and the mohs surgeon said that if he has to go in more than once, she'll need a "flap" or skin graft from her ear. I understand that if the basal cell is on the head, it could eventually grow deep and reach the brain (that's what I was told when I had mine removed from my head) therefore, I had the surgery.
Avatar n tn Microscopic description Sections show an infiltrating neoplasm composed of single separate varying sized rounded glands ,occupying approximately 5% of the biopsy. Immunostains demonstrate the neoplastic glands showing the absence of basal cell layer.Internal control reveals strong staining of basal cell layer in benign prostatic acini. Sections show slightly hyperplastic glands lined by tall columnar cells with no significant nuclear atypia.
Avatar f tn Not much has been known about this tumor but it is thought to be a type of basal cell carcinoma. I suggest you to get a second opinion regarding the diagnosis from a dermatologist. Avatar f tn Basal cell carcinoma is one of the slow spreading and a non melanoma cancer of the face. It starts in the top layer of the skin called the epidermis. It grows slowly and is painless. A new skin growth that bleeds easily or does not heal well may suggest basal cell carcinoma. Don’t worry and get the biopsy done from a dermatologist. Hopefully if it is a basal cell carcinoma, it should not have spread much, but exact staging can only be done after biopsy.
Avatar m tn I'm 22 year old female. I was taking spironolactone for cystic acne. Last April I quit it and my birth control so my husband and I could have a baby (my second.) My skin immediately started to get bad again, which I expected. However, my chest would develop weird little bumps that would eventually go away. But I'm a habitual picker, so I'd sometimes pick at them. Some of the bumps left what I assumed were scars, but from googling I'm unable to find scars that appear like mine do.
494672 tn?1254152672 Sorry about the Basal Cell stuff. I had a squamous cell cancer removed a few years back. My dermatologist performed the Mohs surgery. I was fortunate that he got it all with the first stage. I was kind of weird though ~ sitting for a time with a open "hole" in my stomach while they checked the removed tissue. I agree with the others ~ get the skin cancer taken care of then request referral to another neuro.
468015 tn?1218719780 Hello, Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common cancer of the skin (after basal cell carcinoma but more common than melanoma). It usually occurs in areas exposed to the sun, and can generally be treated by excision only. Sunlight exposure and immunosuppression are risk factors for SCC of the skin. The risk of metastasis( that is its ability to spread to other parts of the body) is larger than with basal cell carcinoma.Therfore it can be invasive. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn That is an unlikely location for basal cell cancer, but in any case, it can certainly wait for evaluation. Basal cell cancer doesn't tend to advance rapidly and it is EXTREMELY rare for it to metastasize.
329994 tn?1301663248 you can have basal cell and squamous cell at the same time.
Avatar f tn I have basal cell carcinoma that is infiltrated and has been on my nose for three-plus years now I am scheduled for Mohs surgery on May 9th and reconstructive plastic surgery on the 10th.
Avatar f tn I've done some research on the different types of skin cancer. I guess I don't want to be one if those patients who is over reacting over something simple. It started off like what i thought was a "pimple" and it just won't heal all the way. I've never had this on a scar before. I will definitely have it looked at, for peace of mind. Thanks!
