Aldara basal cell

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara basal cell

aldara

Avatar f tn If a lesion popped up as a squamous cell, would Aldara cause a reaction if I usually have a good reaction (resolves the lesion) if I treat basal cell with it? It seems biopsy results takes weeks to get back and I am just wanting some more information. Thanks again in advance!
Avatar f tn Recently I had a mole or a spot removed that suddenly appeared one day just above my nipple on my left breast. When the results came back they said it was stage 1 basal cell carcinoma. The doctor recommended three different procedures, but does not suggest one over the other. I have also been told by one nurse that they all have the same effective rate and by another the most effective would be the cut and stitch method.
Avatar m tn Hello, Aldara cream or Imiquimod is used for treatment of actinic keratosis, warts and topical treatment of biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults. It is still not confirmed whether your mole is a malignancy or a mole. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Confirmation can be done by excisional biopsy with narrow margins.
Avatar f tn Hello, Aldara is Imiquimod which is used in treatment of basal cell carcinoma having normal immune system and it is not used for squamous cell carcinoma. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar n tn Hi, Aldara is iquimod and has been approved by FDA for use in superficial basal cell carcinoma and external genital warts only. Not recommended for use in case of hemorrhoids. Let us know if you need any other information. Regards.
Avatar n tn Its use is approved for basal cell skin cancer and actinic keratosis, a precursor condition of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. At present, the best evidence for the use of imiquimod for melanoma or lentigo maligna are only case reports. While the results of these studies are promising, only a few patients have been studied and the quality of evidence is weak. Common side effects to Aldara involve skin reactions in the area where it was applied.
365470 tn?1232750695 Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin occurs roughly one-quarter as often as basal cell carcinoma. Light-colored skin and a history of sun exposure are even more important in predisposing to this kind of cancer than to basal cell carcinoma. Men are affected more often than women As with basal cell carcinoma, doctors usually perform a biopsy to make a proper diagnosis. This involves taking a sample by injecting local anesthesia and punching out a small piece of skin using a circular punch blade.
Avatar f tn I usually really have a reaction when I treat a basal cell with the Aldara yet this lesion did not react and after two weeks I discontinued treatment and followed up with the derm and she finally biopsied it today which was about two weeks after I stopped the treatment. Is that going to affect the diagnosis? I just wanted it off. I asked her what she thought it possibly could be and she said maybe an actinic keratosis.

Avatar n tn Dear Dr, I now have the dubious distinction of having had all three main types of skin cancer; melanoma (nodular), basal cell and most currently, squamous. My dermatologist treated it with 2 cryosurgeries which were unsuccessful. Then, for 2 months, I applied Solaraze. That, too, was unsuccessful so she has retreated to rxing Aldara. I know it is not indicted for squamous and am wondering if I am wasting more time and should ust go ahead and have the Mohs on my nose.
Avatar m tn the lump from a previous biopsy came back and was veiny...... it was called a basal cell carcinoma and it wasn't cancerous and was unrelated to his Bowens disease. He has a 5/6 inch scar on his back......they decided to remove all the scabby growths on his back but left the spot behind the ear. Hopefully it will never turn cancerous. I have a neighbour who goes to a homeopathic drug store......next time she goes I will ask her to check out if they carry the stuff mentioned.
Avatar f tn Rockoff, Sorry, but I was wondering if I usually have a reaction to Aldara on my basal cells, would a lesion that popped up as a squamous cell and not an actinic keratosis react to two weeks treatment of Aldara?
Avatar f tn Since the dermatologist was unsure about either a basal or squamous cell diagnosis and didn't want to wait for biopsy he put my husband on Aldara.awaiting the results ...Biop turned out ''squamous cell' but course of Aldara was over by the time he got the results.
786424 tn?1236466193 Will the use of ALDARA cream for the treatment of basal cell skin cancer cause a rise in CEA, assuming the ALDARA is indeed killing Basal Cell Carcinoma?
154520 tn?1270167776 Depending on how deep these are and what kind of basal cell they are (there are many kinds). I am doing some research and now looking at radiation therapy vs. mohs. My daughter has an infiltrative/nodular basal cell on her nostril and has been told by several drs. she will need reconstructive surgery which may or may not involve a graft, it may just be a "flap", but either one is invasive and radiation may be an option.
1094370 tn?1317138425 I'm 32 and have had my fair share of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. I think the cream you are referring to is Imiquimod/Aldara? It is essentially a topical chemo. Generally if it scabs it means it's working. Unfortunately I haven't had great success with it and have had to have the cancer surgically removed. Not sure where you live, but I have fantastic Doctor recommendations in NYC. Let me know if you want more info.
Avatar f tn Hello, Infilterative basal cell carcinoma is the most aggressive of basal cell carcinoma but they are radiosensitive. It can be used for advanced and extended lesions and in patients for whom surgery is not suitable (e. g, because of allergy to anesthetics, current anticoagulant therapy, a tendency to form keloids or facial tumors). For cosmetic results, radiotherapy is better but this depdns on the staging of the malignancy and biopsy cell reports.
Avatar m tn 30 In addition to the therapy of established infection the imidazoquinolines may have activity in therapy of cancers such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Of 24 patients treated, at various dosing intervals, with topical 5% imiquimod cream, 20 (83%) lacked evidence of BCC on biopsy 6 weeks after therapy compared with only one of 11 (9%) of the group treated with vehicle control.
Avatar f tn The clinical relevance of these findings and the mechanism of action of Aldara cream in treating actinic keratosis and superficial basal cell carcinoma are unknown.

Avatar m tn hey Hound, Welcome to the forum and im glad youre doing something proactive about your situation. I would first like to ask you, what you mean by HPV2? There is no such thing as HPV2. Unless of course you mean HSV2 which is the herpes virus. There are two forms of HPV, the low risk which cause genital warts and the high risk which cause precancerous lesions and may turn into cancer if left untreated for more than 5 years or so. I take it that youre a guy?
