8323481 tn?1405705654 You have given yourself an amazing gift by choosing to go into the detox/rehab treatment ... taking time set apart to focus just on you and your sobriety and recovery program. It sounds like you have a solid program set up with your doctor... stick to it girl... :) do you have someone to help stay accountable? your partner perhaps? a sponsor? I am just so darn tootin' happy to read this for YOU!! It's a struggle to do it on your own.... you have now put in place some real tools (ie.
Avatar n tn My husband has been addicted to various drugs and alcohol for over 10 years. His current problem is opiates, xanax, and alcohol. But he'll basically take whatever he can get a hold of. He's tried quitting on his own a bazillion times, only to fail within a few days. We even moved out of state to where he didn't know anyone to buy from, but he just replaced drugs with loads of alcohol. This has caused lots of strain on our relationship and I initiated a seperation last week.
Avatar f tn I didn't know about Gerard Butler... So it helped him then?? Do you know the guitarist on Celebrity Rehab that died?? Ive been trying to think of his name. I think he was with Alice in Chains?? Mike Star or something?? That was so sad! He was so young and had a sweet spirit. I stopped watching the show after that! AMBER PORTWOOD: Prescription pills LAMAR ODOM: a little bit of everything KIRSTIE ALLEY: She said rehab saved her life.
Avatar m tn What do you think is the best option for an alcoholic to recover? Entering a treatment center or AA meetings only?
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn What we were looking into is an in patient drug and alcohol rehab. I have looked at the quality treatment facilities in my area, given the fact that he was detoxed while a patient at Johns Hopkins he wants to continue his recovery on that front, for the most part the treatment facilities available within a distance of Hopkins (should something happen) are either inner city Baltimore and horrible, or out of network for our health insurance and crazy expensive.
Avatar f tn SERIOUS help. Is rehab (a treatment-center) an option for him? If not, at the very least, he needs to get himself to a hospital so he can detox all the b/s out of his system before it KILLS him. Mixing all of the things you mention is a killer combination, as Tramahater indicated. Ticking time-bomb to say the least... Keep us posted...
5901196 tn?1395543909 t put her in rehab for that she had to have alcohol in her system they told her to go drink a beer yea and this was at YALE that hosp ***** anyways but i don't know what the rules are in your area
Avatar f tn I am surprised that he was given the option of treatment since he obviously has a drinking problem Generally prospective treaters are carefully screened for alcohol/drug abuse and must go to rehab and be clean and sober for at least 6 months before beginning treatment Does your partner know that even if he clears the virus, he will continue to damage his liver by drinking?
Avatar n tn My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?

Avatar f tn I agree that if you are going to stop drinking without a rehab you need to follow the same course of action that you find in rehab, like seeing a physician regularly. Also, there is treatment by a psychologist that allows you to become aware of why you drink. There is always a family session because alcoholism is a family disease. There a treatment clinics available that will see you both, and help your son not to relapse.
Avatar n tn Does alcohol detoxification treatment really treats the physical effects of prolonged use of alcohol. Can an alcoholic be treated without getting himself admitted in India and for how long generally the treatment continues. My husband is a heavy drinker and its almost 17 years since he has been drinking regularly and the result is he is unable to avoid a single day as his legs start paining. His has a busy schedule . Kindly advise . My email id is ***@****.
Avatar n tn I did not really like alcohol in my teens and twenties. During my thirties I discovered wine coolers and progressed to wine, but never more than three glasses, certainly not on a daily basis. Then followed divorce, nursing school, and I drank wine as a reward after studies over. I think I really escalated after graduation when I got my first job and could afford more and also when my children were gone to college. I am now remarried to a great guy who does not drink at all.
Avatar n tn I was in rehab for the first time in March. Was only there for 2 weeks because I found out I was pregnant about a week into treatment. They tested me when I got there but the results didn't come back until 7 days into treatment. I was already out of detox. So I chose to stay clean and not get back on anything. They wanted to put me back on methadone which is what they used to wean me off the oxy contin.

Avatar f tn I went to treatment 28 day program and the knowledge stayed in my mind even though I relapsed one time I could not get treatment out of my mind I had been beat by the drugs and alcohol and was ready to give up and put the treatment to work in my life so I did and went to meetings and listen to the speakers in the meeting they were telling me my story we all go through some of the same things done this for years and still clean and sober I turn my will and life over to a God of my understanding
823771 tn?1238694400 I got out of drug rehab about a month ago. I was taking 270mg of methadone and and did NOT want to go to a drug rehab. I had no intentions of quitting upon my release. I went in completely high and naive towards what WD really was. Just like anything else you will find that people are both good in bad while working for a rehab. I encountered people that truly did not care. they told me I would get out of there and fall flat on my face.
Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
905972 tn?1242388801 Other options would be an inpatient 30 day stint at a rehab - most counties fund this type of treatment........just quiting cold turkey is unpleasant - but doable. There is also replacment therapy - suboxone or methadone....known as "harm reduction therapy" - - wouldnt say to go that route. You are at a good place to begin - - keep posting and reading the old posts and you will learn a great deal. Good luck to her ...
