Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar m tn He snorts coke, Addarall and Ritalin, the guy leaves paraphernalia all around his house and still denies usage. He is currently on methadone which is just a free drug to him at this point. Before drug use he was an extremely stable family man. Once he go involved in the drug world, he assaulted a guy while high and claimed insanity. He still served time but he Really played it up saying he hears voices and has extreme paranoia. (only when he is high mind you.
410877 tn?1245973772 My boyfriend is an alcoholic. I didn't actually find this out until I actually was too far into the relationship to want to give him up. I know I'm really naive on the subject, even though I'm a psych major and feel I understand a lot. The first time he told me he'd quit (he's strong, he can do it on his own, yada yada), I foolishly believed him. The second time he told me he'd quit (this time he really meant it), I again was a fool to think it was true.
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?
176495 tn?1301280412 about the only time I like living in New England...Trees are starting to turn, getting some warm days (unfortunately not warm enough for shorts...they've been put away) and cool crisp nights. I look out our garage back door and over to our left is a large maple tree that is just starting to turn...Beautiful orange colors mixed with the greens that haven't changed yet..against a gray sky (today)...what a beautiful sight..
Avatar n tn My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
Avatar m tn He has not had a drop of alcohol since learning he had this virus. Even though he has not had a drop of alcohol, his life has been hell for three years. I honestly don't think he would be alive today had he been drinking alcohol during that time. So I am in agreement with those before me. Having this very expensive opportunity to clear this virus should be motive enough to stay away from all alcohol and ensure you get rid of this virus forever.
10947 tn?1281404252 They dx the cancer had spread to his left kidney, which was removed, along with the adrenal gland. He went into rehab for 4 weeks and flourished, travelling twice to England and Spain to see us. This past year the cancer had spread to his left lung and he has just finished stereotactic radiotherapy, in a body and face mask - only the 4th patient in the US with one lung to have this.
Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
Avatar f tn Who is from England and where as I'm a FTM and when I read these most are American and I'm so confused when I read as its very different in both country's
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
331415 tn?1311459301 I've seen a couple of people comment on celeb rehab over the last couple of weeks and I finally got the chance to see it today. My question is: what the f@ck is that old guy on and what is the deal with his w/d's. It is painful to watch the poor guy.
184420 tn?1326739808 d about 4-5 years ago but lately i have been drinking more and more and this weekend was just bad... really bad... i should prob consider rehab/aa or something i have been a drug addict and alcoholic all my life but have never done any treatment other than outpatient court ordered couciling and a few AA meetings... it was not for me, i quit heroin without any help (other than coke/meth and alcohol hahaha not even remotely funny but thats how i did it)...stage 2 grade 2/3...
20816447 tn?1527987648 in the DailyMail.uk i've read that in England, some people had minimally invasive procedures for their backs, such as DIAM, TOPS and FehrFix. I found that intriguing. Those are inter-spinous devices, and FehrFix is like "expandable-spaghetti" inserted into degenerative discs. It's something to discuss with doctors (as if they care that in England, medicine might be more advanced... Do they care what is and what's not available to non-wealthy Americans?
1891710 tn?1323200961 Again, could you please tell us how much on a normal day you drink, and what kind of liquor---beer/wine, or the stronger spirits. You can die coming off alcohol due to seizures--alcohol is in a special class of drug that way, along with Valium class drugs and benzos, which are tranquilizers. This is why you really don't need to do it by yourself--and especially if you OD'ed recently. There are more folks to talk to here, just stay close by and ask all the questions you like.
Avatar m tn hi david and so glad you are back. i am guessing in rehab you totally detoxed? if you have been here before you know that this is a great support place. have you thought or do you go to na/aa. those are also great for addicts in recovery. so sorry you od'd. that is scary. please stick around and keep posting.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn you need a rehab center or the vicious cycle will con tinue. The alcohol and XANAX WILL BOTH GIVE YOU PANIC ATTACKS. GET HELP!
