905972 tn?1242388801 What options/programs are availabie? My niece just informed me she is addicted to roxys and needs help. My experience is with alcohol and the recovery process may be the same, I'm assuming the withdrawal is different and can be dangerous. She said when she tries to stop she gets pain is in her joints along with other withdrawals. She is 23 and uninsured where do we begin?
583001 tn?1218145864 There is no way that she will get help on her own, for one, she is unable to make decisions for herself anymore and is in denial of her problem. I told my dad to give her the option of rehab and if she denied that then she could no longer live in his home. So of course, she refused rehab and decided to live in her car???? I am curious to what legal rights familes have over victims of abuse? How can we get her committed???? She is dying before our eyes!!!
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?
Avatar m tn I tried to get into a rehab but was turned away. I detoxed with the help of friends, enrolled in an IOP and went to mtgs. I still go to mtgs and stay active in AA. I have a sponsor and I sponsor others. For me it's not so much about where I go it's about what I do with the stuff I learn from being where I'm at.
Avatar n tn My husband has been addicted to various drugs and alcohol for over 10 years. His current problem is opiates, xanax, and alcohol. But he'll basically take whatever he can get a hold of. He's tried quitting on his own a bazillion times, only to fail within a few days. We even moved out of state to where he didn't know anyone to buy from, but he just replaced drugs with loads of alcohol. This has caused lots of strain on our relationship and I initiated a seperation last week.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.

Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar f tn There are lots of options your just probably going to have to call a ton of places to find out what options fit your needs the best.
Avatar n tn We, my sister and I cannot go on any longer watching him kill himself, is there any type of lock down rehab that we can have him committed to? He claims that the withdrawals are far too unbearable to go on living. If there is any information that anyone can offer us about any state funded programs in or around new mexico we would greatly appreciate it.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar f tn Help..I'm on day 2 from going cold turkey from heavy alcohol abuse. How long will the anxiosness n sweats last?
Avatar n tn My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
Avatar m tn is there an online doctor that can give u the rx...i know the protocol to get through this but i know my physician will want to send me to rehab...i cant do rehab right now....
Avatar f tn Loving an addict is a lot of work. You first have to fully understand addiction, and be aware that relapse happens even to those that are taking full advantage of rehab services. You've said nothing of rehab , you've mentioned he's in and out of jail, but have said nothing about what attempts he's made of getting help for himself. Typically, an addict will continue to go back and forth to an enabler.
5901196 tn?1395543909 t put her in rehab for that she had to have alcohol in her system they told her to go drink a beer yea and this was at YALE that hosp ***** anyways but i don't know what the rules are in your area
Avatar n tn Medical help in this case is not an option, it is a necessity. I work at a drug and alcohol rehab here in Thailand and see the worst of it, many time people fall off the airplane when they get here. If they have been drinking that much for that long it is not something to take lightly, they need to be monitored by trained professionals while detoxing.
Avatar f tn I didn't know about Gerard Butler... So it helped him then?? Do you know the guitarist on Celebrity Rehab that died?? Ive been trying to think of his name. I think he was with Alice in Chains?? Mike Star or something?? That was so sad! He was so young and had a sweet spirit. I stopped watching the show after that! AMBER PORTWOOD: Prescription pills LAMAR ODOM: a little bit of everything KIRSTIE ALLEY: She said rehab saved her life.
Avatar m tn I actually knew I had a problem and put myself in rehab. After I got remarried last March and things settled down in the summer of 2013 I thought I could drink socially. They were right in rehab when they say you don't even know it's coming - you just do it. This time is different. I don't drink and drive. I never drink to excess. I know when to stop. The problem is that I have to have those two or three beer at night to take the edge off.
