Alcohol rehab detox

Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol rehab detox

rehab

Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
317822 tn?1223241475 I went to detox but previously did an outpatient rehab. The detox I went to did have a daily routine. were woke up at 7am for breakfast to start the day. Lights out was at 10:30pm. You were not forced to go to the groups, however I wanted to get as much out of it as i could so I went to them. Our DOC is only 10% of our addiction....the other 90% is how we deal with life and stressful situations. I saw my doctor every day I was there, and my social worker every day for the first 3 days.
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar m tn I do believe the blood pressure issue is common for alcohol withdrawal and I know their is a risk of seizure with alcohol detox. Alcohol detox is one of the most risky detoxes there is, even over some of the more intense street drugs. I was told this in the rehab facility that I was in. I am not trying to scare you, but I would not want you to risk any harm by not getting a professional opinion by someone who is taking you seriouslly.
324184 tn?1308076203 I cannot do impatient rehab. I know my body needs a detox and I asked if I could check myself in Friday after work and leave Sunday but the clinic I called said that wouldnt be a long enough time period for my body to go through detox. I am an alcohol abuser along with pain pills/ muscle relaxers. Again, I know I need help I know I am hurting myself but I cannot imagine what I would do if during this process I lost my job. I am single, I have no one to help with bills.
Avatar f tn I would try to go the detox/rehab route because of the combination of the drugs and alcohol. A focused intervention with a drug counselor could be set up with a trip to detox immediately. Look in your phone book for drug/alcohol assistance. It is usually in the front pages in a special services section. She is in heavy denial and needs to be approached with a worked out strategic plan. Good Luck. Ask for lots of help.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar n tn my 51 year old son is currently on a 100 per day mg menthodone program and has relapsed on alcohol - he is sober now and is planning to detox at the menthodone clinic and get in a 9 month rehab facility - they (the rehab ) do not use any drugs for detox and my son says he cannot stand nothing from 100 mg - do you think this will work?
Avatar m tn It seems like he is taking a lot of medications, so it would be best to get him to a doctor who could help him detox safely. Rehab doctors deal with this stuff everyday, so they would be the easiest to talk to and not be judged. Maybe you know of a doctor who would help him and not judge him. Regardless, I don't think any doctor is going to call the police when he is just trying to get help. There will be others who come along and post within no time.
Avatar m tn i have been to rehab twice, both time where to due the 4 day rapid detox using revia with other meds to try & keep me confortable. last year i made it 14 days & relpased after getting a kidney stone. after i left rehab they sent me home with revia & i took two of them & the craving where gone, i mean i thought about them alot but the strong desire was gone. im using about 60mg a day/ 10's & i cant stop.
Avatar m tn If you have a person at home with you, that can go to a doctor with you, and be there to give you some medication to help you through withdrawal, you will have gone the same route as rehab detox. On the other hand, there are many here that are going through detox with no medication, and they are doing fine. The last time I used drugs or alcohol, I went to an outpatient treatment center, and had to home detox myself. It's doable and in the scheme of the bigger picture, short lived.
Avatar n tn when i called them last year, when i started my search to become clean, they told me just show up, with your bag,(shampoo, deodarant, lotion, pjs) and they wont turn you away. they will help him at least to detox off the drugs/alcohol. they will keep him about 3 -5 days, but he will need more treatment than that, that will only be the beginning, he must follow up with aftercare. But also as someone else mentioned above, if he does not want to get clean, there wont be too much, you can do.
905972 tn?1242388801 I live in Canada where Detox and rehab are paid for, I can tell you right now I had to do everything on my own. I tried to go to a medical detox, and rehab, but it seemed like when I was ready to quit wasn't good for them. Nobody ever called back and still 3 1/2 months later they still haven't called back to give me a date so I can get the proper help from rehab. My fiance, my Mom, and Dad, and I called consistantly for help. My family and I just had to do it ourselves.
1041243 tn?1375230520 Are there any other rehab facilities in your area [or a little aways from your area] that you can get into, because I've never heard of there being a waiting list to get into one. If you go to the ER and tell them your story and state that you're in need of help, they're required by law to put you where you need to be for rehab. Please try not to scare yourself about the seizures.
Avatar f tn Hey y'all, I am actually on the plane now off to rehab!!!! I am so scared of detox and leaving my family, but i know deep down inside, this is the right thing to do. I can only pray that i will get through this and come out stronger than ever and continue to seek therapy. This really has been a long dark road for me and i am ready to take charge of my life, i am going into rehab with an open mind and i am going to fight this demon with everything i got in me, and i will WIN!!!!
Avatar f tn I am going crazy i just cant stand to be using anymore but am at a loss as to how i am ever going to do this on my own. I really think i need rehab, detox something of that sort. i live i a small town and dont think we have anything of that sort in our area.
Avatar f tn Received a bag of thiamine iv, lectures and a script for 5 ativans and told to drive 40 miles to nearest detox rehab. I was quite unable to do this. Toughed it out and went to see my PCP and met with same lecture and of course no detox meds but obtained a work excuse for the five days I called off. Fourth day I enrolled in Gateway outpt rehab telling them I had detoxed at home. Today day 6 I am in terrible shape. I bought a pint and did 2 perks which didn't touch me.
Avatar m tn and can you get into a rehab? Im not sure how much alcohol you have been taking lately but abrupt cessation can cause severe withdrawl symptoms that range from tremors, seizures, hallucinations and cardiovascular collapse. It is important to discuss all your concerns with a doctor. Only he can determine if detoxing under medical supervision is appropriate for you. The first step is to find a AA meeting asap and get a sponsor.
Avatar m tn I have to agree with several posters -- seven days??? Only with a massive aftercare routine that takes up a lot of her time ... I cleaned up in nine, but no aftercare, and guess what? Any way to extend the detox?
Avatar m tn 3 years 1.
Avatar n tn It could be, although to establish liver damage you would have to see a physician. I know detox is beyond horrible, beyond your worst nightmare. You need support during this time. Even if you could stay in a rehab for 7 days or so....they give you Librium to help with the detox symptoms, which makes it a little easier to get through. I wish you all the good luck, and God bless. Keep me posted.
Avatar f tn It has been 5 years and the longest he has been clean is 3 months but during his clean time from opiates turns to alcohol. He is now is rehab for 3 months and I was just wondering the best ways to be there and be supportive for him while he is in there and especially when he comes out. I'm willing to work with him on this since it was his idea for rehab and detox. I have lost someone to the same addiction a few years back and I just cannot deal with it again.
Avatar f tn More power to you if you think you can safely detox at home; I do not know of many who have. There is a detox somewhere for just about any income, and most will have nearly the same level of care, and I'm sure all will use the same extreme cautions when bringing you down. What's more important, a little money out of pocket to get clean, or the cost of any further negative consequences from abusing these two?
