That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox).It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms.
If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
what will rehab do for me? im in the process of calling the ins co to see where i can go. will they give me something to stop this crazy jittery feeling? will i be not so anxious to the point of not coping? i am comin g out of my skin. i cant take it. will rehab help? or will i be in a strange room with strange people going thru the same exact thing?
i cant do this alone i just cant... i need help im just not sure what i need.... i am willing and able to go for inpatient treatment.

Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Please don't let ur daughter get addicted to suboxone like I was for years . It was terrible withdrawal I mean the worst ... I went cold turkey In a rehab for Coke & alcohol and didn't realize how bad the sub leaving my body would feel like . I kicked all night every night for a week straight , there was nothing they could give me it was Like coming off Any opiate .
However that dose not solve your problem, how about you lay some conditions of your own….he gets some help for his problem….he goes to rehab or whatever you think may help him. Remember he may not want help right now. Get some other family members and sit him down and spell out the facts as far as you and the family are concerned. Get some help yourself and don’t try to handle this on your own. Has he a history of violence or self harm?
My best advice is for you is to stop yourself from drinking for today, and schedule an appointment with an Addictions Therapist where you'll give them your history and find your options.
I used to think I "loved" alcohol. Then i replaced that thought and never have missed alcohol since. My family and myself reap the benefits of my having the thoughts that you are having today. Congratulations for getting to this point in the history that you are writing for yourself.
I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that.
It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.

When someone has co-occurring disorders, such as depression, social anxiety and PTSD mixed with addiction. Should a family member wait for this person to admit themselves to rehab or try intervention?
My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
