Avatar f tn I have a 20 month old and am expecting my second baby in four weeks:) I've been in college since September and will be going right through until next April. I'm going to be honest it takes a lot of hard work and dedication but it is possible. Make sure to talk to your professors as soon as you can so that you can set up some sort of plan for after the baby is born. Good luck!

424634 tn?1277857528 He graduated HS and went off to college, moved in with his girlfriend. College was extremely stressful for him. The school kicks students out if they get less than a C in any of the major courses. He dropped out of a major course in the fall, because he knew he was going to fail it. He and his girlfriend got married shortly after Christmas, and I found out yesterday, that shortly after they got back home, he started abusing marijuana again.

4113881 tn?1415850276 Hi all! I just wanted to share something as I'm really excited. I went to the Alcohol & Drug Counselor certification class orientation last night. It was awesome! Right now Im in my last semester in college and will graduate with my 2 year AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences. That's all fine and good but it doesn't so much make me employable in what I want to do. I want to be a substance abuse counselor and to do that you have to get a recognized certification.
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar m tn The problem with alcohol is that perhaps 20 to 25% of those who drink either have bouts of heavy drinking (binges) or develop more chronic drinking related conditions such as alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence. Alcohol dependence involves a rewiring of the brain's reward circuits and is associated with defects that involve thinking (cognition), emotion, and motivation.

973741 tn?1342342773 Actually, I've now learned a good deal. ABA is considered abusive by adults who were put through it in their youth. I'm sure it depends on who you have doing it but in general, I'd stay away from it.

Avatar m tn Had no withdrawal from my pain pill abuse(from a shoulder injury got in college from baseball.) I would crave them, but it wasn't that bad... alcohol, on the other hand, did all sorts of things to me. I always end up hitting the bottle again, only to face to the same crap I fought off when quitting the time before. Never had a burning sensation in my toes though...
Avatar m tn s in college. In college, people drink. Admittedly he drank a little TOO much at one point, but these things happen. This is not alcoholism. Alcoholism is when you can't go a day without drinking. Quit railing on him for going to the occasional college party.
Avatar m tn http://www.infowars.com/students-sign-petition-to-have-gun-owners-executed-in-concentration-camps/ I don't like Alex Jones, I think he is a tool but I find some videos he posts funny. Well this video is one of a guy getting college kids to sign to repeal the 2nd amendment. College kids are idiots.
Avatar f tn Are you in sports? Calories for college students vary because of differences in physical activity. Make sure your diet is mostly whole foods including low-fat dairy, whole-grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and healthy oils. Don't skip breakfast. Don't get in the habit of staying up late, then rush to get to class. You need food to get your metabolism up, your energy levels will be low and you'll be starving and likely to overeat by lunch.
Avatar n tn Hello JC, So sorry it's taken me this long to answer your question. I must have missed it when I was checking this site. Now, on to my response. Alcohol, by itself, can tend to lower one's glucose and can result in very severe hypoglycemia is one is drinking heavily. The reason for the risk of severe hypoglycemia is that, normally, over livers will help out when we're low -- The liver will cause glycogen stores to be converted to glucose in an attempt to raise our blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1284022 tn?1291358549 Eventually, just a few months before my 21st, I was given a drunk in public ticket, and woke up in jail in a city 40 miles from my house (weird experience as I was still drunk after release) and I don't even know what happened besides what people told me (bad sign). All in all, alcohol was messing up my life, even though I only drank on the weekends, yet I had no clue. Alcoholism didn't cross my mind until my family intervened after this last ticket.

Avatar f tn I was pregnant my junior year of college, I went full time during my pregnancy and only took 2 classes after my son was born. So now, I took some summer classes to catch up what I missed last semester, and going back full time in the fall and will be graduating next spring with my bachelor's degree. It's not impossible to go to school AND be a mom, but it is hard, especially if you have a job to juggle in there.

Avatar n tn I am in a similar boat. I made some crazy mistakes in college and have put myself at risk because of it. All of us had been in college and I'm 20 currently. some of the guys I'd been with between 18 or my age. I'd been told everyone had testing done and that they were negative. I'm going to get tested today but I'm scared out of my mind.

Avatar f tn The answer to your question will depend upon the college. Fortunately, every college will have an office that handles arranging additional supports for students who need them. Contact the college admissions office, explain your situation, and they can direct you to the appropriate people tot talk to. If you're living at home, a local community college might be a great option and they will also have an office in charge of making sure that students like you recieve needed support.
