Aggrenox and spinal anesthesia

Common Questions and Answers about Aggrenox and spinal anesthesia

aggrenox

Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Avatar f tn i have a arachnoid cyst in my brain..and i need to get spinal anesthesia for my csection...since the spinal meds are injected into the spinal fluid....what could it do to the cyst in my head?
Avatar f tn My mother had a stroke about 5 months ago and we are considering opening the blood thinning aggrenox capsules and giving her half the dosages with applesause. She is already on the lowest dosage available. It's always a crapshoot to take the chance to alter medication as your doctor will tell you. The only thing aggrenox does is allow the blood to get through areas where the passages are very small due to calcification etc., so keeping the blood thin is important.
Avatar f tn When I had my cysts removed via laparotomy, they had planned to do a total hysterectomy and spinal anesthesia is common for hysterectomies. I believe that standard anesthesia is used but is inserted through an epidural in your spine. Afterwards this is left in place for a bit and your pain medications are fed through it. They will keep close attention and continually test your freezing with cold. I had an epidural with my son and this did feel differently.
Avatar n tn I am a doctor mysf and have been getting urethral dilatation under local anesthesia(lignocaine gel) for over 3 yrs. the only time spinal block was used was when i was having my first dilatation done.It is a bit more painful and difficult but better than getting anesthesia all the time which has its own drawbacks. Hope it helps.
7792797 tn?1413503184 I was the same as Deedebaybeh, it was painless. And i had my back to them so i never saw the needle. And I don't remember getting an iv during my csection but I've had a lot in my lifetime and I hate iv's.
Avatar f tn The drugs used in general anesthesia act as hypnotics, painkillers, and muscle relaxants. They also block a person's memory of the surgery Conscious sedation, which induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives, allows the patient to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, although he or she may not remember any of what occurs.
Avatar f tn Spinal tap. Administered in OR catheter put in after numb. All I know is I had allergic reaction too the spinal tap ended up needing benadryl.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Though the drugs of choice for a lupus anticoagulant are heparin and warfarin (coumadin), Plavix may be administered additionally to prevent arterial thrombotic episodes. Aggrenox has the same action as Coumadin. The choice of drug and management plan differs with different doctors and the risk factors of the patient. Please discuss the management plan with your doctor. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
293157 tn?1285873439 I agree with Poppy about spinal being easier for your body to deal with. After surgery it can take a while for your body to cleanse itself of general anesthesia. It can leave you groggy and can cause nausea. MS wise I don't think there's a big difference. I've had both and was much more alert/aware after the spinal. With the spinal I made sure that I would be completely out if it during surgery. I did not want to be aware of anything thatnwas going on!
Avatar f tn I am a 45 F and had a TKR two months ago. I had spinal anesthesia and was also "out" during the surgery. I was catheterized during the surgery until the following morning. I have had ongoing issues with my leg, EMG/NCS last week were positive for significant femoral nerve damage (possibly from the tourniquet??), as well as being "positive" in my spine - although that doctor did not explain about my spine and my f/u with my OS is tomorrow.
Avatar n tn not to sure what to tell you,I have spinal stenosis also ,and have been going to pain mangement and they gave me epidural shots and they seem to help for a while. You might try that.sorry I could not be of more help.
Avatar f tn You don't get an epidural usually with an elective c-section, it's just a spinal which is just a shot. General anesthesia isn't recommend as it effects the baby, and more recovery issues.
1666903 tn?1383332156 Regional anesthesia also would be difficult with a higher risk of unpredictability and more frequency of a failed spinal anesthesia. A high-risk consent would be required if you are morbidly obese or have other chronic diseases etc. discuss these with your anesthesiologist and discuss the prognosis and predicted surgical outcome with the neurosurgeon. You could also seek inputs on oxygen- ozone therapy, which is partially interventional. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Regional anesthesia (also called an epidural or spinal anesthesia) is administered by an anesthesiologist (a doctor who delivers pain medicine) during labor to reduce discomfort. In both epidural and spinal anesthesia, medications are placed near the nerves in your lower back to "block" pain in a wide region of your body while you stay awake. Regional anesthesia greatly reduces pain throughout the birthing process. It can also be used if a cesarean birth becomes necessary.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take vitamins/herbs with aggrenox and aspirin?
Avatar m tn WHAT KIND OF ANESTHESIA SHE UNDERWENT DURING OPERATION WAS IT SPINAL (MEANS LOCAL INJECTION IN THE SPINAL CORD) OR WAS IT A GENERAL ANESTHESIA. THE 1ST TYPE MAY CAUSE SUCH A THING BUT IT IS A TEMPORARY TRANSIENT EFFECT AND AFTER SOME TIME IT WILL RESOLVE SPONTANEOUSLY HOPFULLY.
Avatar m tn The patient will check into the facility where the procedure is being performed and an intravenous line (IV) established in order to administer fluids and medication. The type of anesthesia used varies depending on the joint being examined and the medical health of the patient. Arthroscopy can be performed under a general anesthetic, a spinal or epidural anesthetic, a regional block (where only the extremity being examined is numbed), or even a local anesthetic.
Avatar f tn Causes of leak through the dura include head, brain or spinal surgeries, head injury, tubs for epidural anesthesia or pain medication and a spinal tap. Symptoms are headache made worse with sitting and better on lying down, associated light sensitivity and neck stiffness, drainage of csf from ear or nose. Certain investigation includes CT head, MRI head, radioisotope test of the CSF to track the leakage. Consult a neurologist for best advice. Take care.
606483 tn?1220238356 This pain has been going on for 4 weeks now. My question is could the spinal block have caused this pain and will it go away on it's own or should I see a doctor?
Avatar f tn Okay so my c section is tomorrow and I made a mistake of looking up complications for spinal anesthesia...one thing that can go wrong is that it can paralyze the top as well and affect breathing. :( I'm so scared, you guys!!!
