humira

Avatar m tn As there was no improvement. Doctor adviced to have Exemptia (Adalimumab) injection. 4 injections (40mg 8ml) was given. Next day he was having stomach pain, tight and rigid stomach, and fast breathing. He was immediately admitted in the nearby hospital and doctor found he was suffering from megacolon (toxic colon). After taking x-ray and CT scan, it was found that there was perforation in his stomach.
Avatar n tn Yesterday my rheumatologist has finally decided to give me something other than anti-inflammatories and anti-depressants for my list of symptoms which he has decided are due to either Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis (Palindromic Rheumatism was mentioned too) or possibly all of the above, with a side order of Fibromyalgia. Just wondering if anyone here has taken Humira (Adalimumab) as I've read about it and am freaking out a bit!
Avatar m tn Yes, Humira will indirectly help in controlling diarrhea and digestion. Let me explain this. Humira or adalimumab is a biological response modifier and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker. Thus, in Crohn’s it will modify your body’s response to disease (bloating, tenderness, diarrhea, indigestion etc). This is because any immune mediated disease like Crohn’s produces excess of an inflammatory protein called TNF-alpha, which causes cellular damage along with pain and inflammation.
Avatar n tn As most of us know Humira (adalimumab) reduces the effects of a substance in the body that can cause inflammation. Common Humira side effects may include: headache; nausea; cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sinus pain, sneezing, sore throat; rash; or redness, bruising, ITCHING, or swelling where the injection was given. So what you are experiencing is not unusual - however I think you should give your MD a call as Sherry also suggested. He/she needs to know about your reaction.
Avatar m tn While it is antihistaminics, topical and oral steroids for eczema and antifungal for fungal infection, the treatment of psoriasis that have been approved by FDA are adalimumab and Xtrac Velocity excimer laser system. Apart from that, topical medications like emollients, creams containing coal tar, dithranol, corticosteroids, fluocinonide, vitamin D3 analogues and retinoids have been routinely used. So before using any treatment it is advisable to consult a dermatologist. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Taper off the steroids to low potency ones after consulting your dermatologist. The drugs that have been approved by FDA are adalimumab and Xtrac Velocity excimer laser system. Apart from that, topical medications like emollients, creams containing coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids like desoximetasone (Topicort), fluocinonide, vitamin D3 analogues (for example, calcipotriol), and retinoids have been routinely used. Phototherapy containing UV A has also been employed.

Biologic drugs such as adalimumab (Humira) and infliximab (Remicade) can also be started later in pregnancy. Discuss this with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
10175413 tn?1427170251 d this year with Ankylosing spondylitis. Been treating several months with Adalimumab - not terribly impressed. Get better relief from anti-inflammatory and chiropractic. Probably not related to my HCV tx, but find it interesting that Rheumy doc wants me to do PCRs for HCV - even after 12+ years sustained response - while doing the Adalimumab immunosuppressant.
Avatar f tn Though non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAID) and steroids are the gold standard of treatment, more emphasis should be laid on physical and occupational therapy, rest, heat pads and use of assistive devices for walking. Biological response modifiers like etanercept, leflunomide (used less often), adalimumab, or infliximab can be added in consultation with doctor.
Avatar f tn I had what they call a stroke - it was caused by burst aneurisms in my brain. It took 9 surgeries and finally a shunt in my head. That was September. What I want to know is, is it 'normal' to feel pressure and sometimes a 'giddy' feeling? Apparently my brain will take at least a year to 'heal'. I am doing really well, but my head feels this way, and my neck where the shunt tube goes swells..
Avatar n tn Many owners confuse the symptoms of a stroke in humans to a stroke in dogs. In fact, they are quite different.
Avatar f tn I had stroke at the age of 26. Do you know anyone that's happen to? My neurologist a Said they couldn't find any reason this should have happen to me.
Avatar n tn Husband woke up with dizziness, vertigo, vomiting at 3 AM last week. B/P 225/120 ER said he did not have a stroke ( according to CT scan. Can't do MRI due to stents which he got for a 95% blockage to his heart 4 yrs ago.) Cardiologist switched BP meds and B/P going down well on that now.He' still very fatigued, difficulty with spacial perception, walking etc...The Nuero Doc can't see him till May 1st. Any idea what's up with all of this and what kind of treatment we should pursue?

Avatar n tn So to those who have been following the birth and scary moments with my little Adam Dale, after more testing today we found out that he had a stroke during or shortly after delivery. They are not sure why but the long term prognosis is pretty good. Still scary as heck but at least we have answers. He seems to be doing really well and has not had any more seizures since early this morning.

HE CONTINUALLY WANTS TO GET OUT OF BED SO THEY (HOSPITAL) HAVE HIM RESTRAINED 24/7 WHICH SEEMS TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE. HE KNOWS PEOPLE BUT REALLY CANT CARRY A NORMAL CONVERSATION YET. I UNDERSTAND THE RESTRAINTS TO PROTECT HIM AND THEM BUT I CANT IMAGINE BEING RESTRAINED FOR THIS LONG. HE ALSO REFUSES TO EAT. I DON'T THINK HE IS AWARE.

Avatar n tn The onset of pain under any circumstance shouldn't be ignored. I highly recommend that you pay a visit to your doctor as soon as possible. That said, I'm not sure why your post bears the title "Stroke". Strokes usually present over the course of several hours and involve a plethora of neurological symptoms, like confusion, difficulty speaking, memory loss, sudden lethargy, tingling or numbness down one side of the body, and sometimes a sharp pain in the head.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. It is very difficult to tell if he will be able to recover completely or not. There is no way of finding out for sure. Please continue with speech therapy. Hopefully he will respond to it. It requires patience and perseverance. Please be optimistic and do not give up. Good luck!
Avatar n tn The doctors cannot tell us what happened to cause this, they simply do not know. They also told us it appears that she had a stroke prior to this stroke, and she never knew about it. They thought that it was possible that she had a brain infection that caused this. We are up in the air and are still trying to cope with this. They also said it appears that she had several mini-strokes. She is now coherent, has her memory, no facial drooping and is raring to go.
Avatar n tn Hi Tony I'm glad you're not depressed ;) Re: tiredness, it seems that this is the one thing all us strokees have in common. I don't know how long since your stroke but fatigue still seems to be an issue even for long termers. I don't know if this is true or not but it is how I make sense of it all. My brain is busy forging new connections & pathways and on my bad side fewer muscles & muscle fibres are firing to move that side of the body - so of course I get tired.
Avatar m tn Just suffered from major stroke 2 months ago. Was just wondering if anyone had information or experience with the drug, Neuroaid.
Avatar f tn That is where you should be with odd symptoms like that. No one can tell you if it is a stroke or not until you've had the proper medical tests...I would think any kind of sudden numbness would be an emergency and possibly serious stuff like stroke or MS.
