Adalimumab injection site reaction

Common Questions and Answers about Adalimumab injection site reaction

humira

1711722 tn?1356487554 I find that the injection sites start itching about a week after the injection. The injection sites also have a lot of itchy, red bumps around them. I take a Benadryl at night and apply hydrocortisone cream. I use hydrocortisone cream during the day too. It works for the injection sites. Aquaphor might work for your tummy sites. I was using just my thighs up until injections 11 and 12.
Avatar n tn Hi Ketot. :) First, let me tell you how glad I am that you have found our Arthritis Community. I want to be sure you understand that the are no Doctor's on this Community. We are all either Arthritis sufferers, such as you or CP (Chronic Pain) patients. :) I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this itching. As I said, I'm not a Doctor, but it definitely sounds as if you are having a reaction to the Humira.
1752948 tn?1466354161 I noticed that my injection site looks okay for a few days after the injection, maybe very slight redness or maybe none. About 6 days after an injection the site, including the surrounding area about 2 inches in diameter, gets pretty pink-red and a little raised. It also itches like crazy. It feels warm to the touch (warmer than the rest of me). The site stays that way for at least a week or more and then gradually fades and quits itching (over 3-4 weeks time).
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has lingering red/bruise marks at the injection site. I have taken 6 shots so far and still have a red bruise mark at injection site after six weeks. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is typical. Could someone please help me out here. Kinda nervious about giving the shot tonight.
Avatar m tn As there was no improvement. Doctor adviced to have Exemptia (Adalimumab) injection. 4 injections (40mg 8ml) was given. Next day he was having stomach pain, tight and rigid stomach, and fast breathing. He was immediately admitted in the nearby hospital and doctor found he was suffering from megacolon (toxic colon). After taking x-ray and CT scan, it was found that there was perforation in his stomach.

Avatar f tn The spot on my right leg also got bigger with my arm injection, and neither lumps seem to want to go away now! I wanted to see if anyone else has had this reaction- the injection site healing, then cropping back up a few days later. Any info would be appreciated, thank you!
Avatar f tn I think almost everyone gets these injection sites reaactions initially on copaxone. As Alex says, it is a trade-off compared to the alternative of doing no treatment at all. For most of us, the reaction calms down as the body adjusts to this substance. It took a couple months for me before the stinging stopped. this summer I started in with small lumps from the shots - half-dollar size and smaller- and talked to SS about it. They said to talk to my neuro about alternative shot sites.
233622 tn?1279334905 You say "how can you mess this up" but I did at first, I hadn't listened properly when the injection procedure was demonstrated to me and I wasn't massaging the site after the injection, according to the nurse this could have meant that the drug was just "sitting under my skin". I must admit that massaging hasn't made much difference. My MS nurse seems more concerned about the reactions than I am.
2030686 tn?1351688548 I took my second shot today and I noticed I still have a slightly darkened spot about 2 inches around last weeks injection site. I didn't inject into the same leg this week, and I didn't have any swelling, itching, or anything else last week. After a couple days I noticed a darkening/reddening of the skin around the site. It's just a slight difference. So little that if I try to take a picture the flash washes it out. I will try again though.
Avatar f tn I was using copaxone I did have a itch at the injection site and a lump that lasted for days sometimes weeks. Blistering I never experienced.
997730 tn?1254278376 The last 3 of my injections have left dark circular bruises at the injection site. Previously, I did have some redness, but not bruising like this. (I'm on my 19th week) At first I thought that maybe I somehow caused it during the injection. But then the next week, I had the same kind of bruise. Now, after the last shot, this is the 3rd time I've had a bruise, and I used different spots for these 3, where I didn't have this kind of problem before.
400099 tn?1282954864 The things you are describing with the use of Copaxone are very common in the beginning of it's use. If there is any stinging, I would NOT use the alcohol wipes. I would clean the area with plain soap and water and dry. I am now in month 14 of Copaxone use. I still get welts and bumps. Sometimes the lumps are the size of a quarter. Some of them bruise. But I can live with that, because I know that I am taking a drug that is helping me.
422881 tn?1257603579 I would like to avoid injecting in my thighs if possible due to the irritation at the injection site and the fact that my legs ache so massaging them would be difficult coupled with the irritation. I just took my 4th shot so no irritation there yet, but the first 2 places have a brown colored appearance and the 3rd site is still red, itches, and feels like a bad sunburn. All these splotches are not quite as big as a tennis ball.
Avatar n tn Dry or scaly skin is treated by any good moisturizer, but the bumpy and rough condition you describe sounds more like an allergic skin reaction than dry skin. Again, I want to tell you that injection site skin should normally look no different from the skin on other areas of the body. Below is a web site address for an article on insulin allergies, which are rare.
5987839 tn?1381922502 I suffered the chills too after 4 shots and one month later still an injection site reaction. Apparently I am allergic to first plegridy and now copaxone. Switching to Tecfidera Sat. Wish me luck, and 3 ttmes a charm I hope.
Avatar f tn There were also three red bumps to the left of the injection site. Last night I put ice on them for a few minutes. After removing the ice and going to bed my arm became extremely sore. The three red bumps became one large raised very tender spot and any pressure on the arm at all hurts very badly. It is also sore when i move it certain ways. Has anyone else had a similar reaction? How long until this subsides?
Avatar n tn Following two cervical epidural steroid injections and a blood patch, I broke out in a rash the size of a dinner plate around the injection site. I feel like my spine and brain are burning, I have burning pain down both arms,, down my neck and on my torso. My tongue is sore and my lips and nostrils are burning. A trip to the er and 50 mg of prednisone made me feel crazy. I am about two weeks post blood patch.
Avatar f tn Pay very close attention to the injection site map they give you for Copaxone. When they say the top of the thigh, they mean it! Always inject into the fat areas and never into an area that might have a blood vessel. I decided to stray from the top of the thigh and went a little inside, and had the same exact reaction you're talking about. Felt awful for the rest of the day.
Avatar n tn Yesterday my rheumatologist has finally decided to give me something other than anti-inflammatories and anti-depressants for my list of symptoms which he has decided are due to either Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis (Palindromic Rheumatism was mentioned too) or possibly all of the above, with a side order of Fibromyalgia. Just wondering if anyone here has taken Humira (Adalimumab) as I've read about it and am freaking out a bit!
1230912 tn?1273492770 Okay out of nowhere this morning my first injection site started itching and when I looked at it it has about a quarter size red welt as well as the rest of my injection sites. Am I having some strange delayed adverse reaction? I also have two raised dark red spots - one near the injection I did yesterday on my tummy and I have one on my breast (obviously nowhere near an injection). Anyone know what these are?
1181494 tn?1264381915 These types of reactions are very common in Copaxone early on. I had reactions like this for probably a few months. Then I noticed the reaction was less and less. For me, I noticed more of a reaction when I used the AutoInject device because the medicine went in so quickly and hard. The medicine kind of pooled at the top of my skin because it didn't have a chance to absorb. Also, check to make sure you're not injecting too shallowly.
5401039 tn?1368030238 ve also gotten hives at injection sites from the last couple of days, but not at the site where I just injected. I was on it for almost a year and then stopped. During that time the sites seemed to get worse with time. It got so unbearable that I was having anxiety attacks everyday when it was time to do my shot which then led to me skipping doses. I started again after a 3 month "break" (I don't suggest you do this, my symptoms got really bad during this time). Any ways...
