Avatar n tn My mother has Graves Disease, and diabetes. The medicines she takes cause her chest pain, shortness of breath, and make her dizzy. Her blood pressure checks out ok, but is the medicine for the blood pressure causing this pain. Some days she is ok and other days the pain comes in the morning and lasts all day. Of all the medecines she takes which is most likely the culprit. Is there any alternatives.
1236243 tn?1277680851 I've been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
Avatar m tn I have diabetes ll. My doctor has given me Actos 30 mg. I have been hearing a lot about this drug and none of it's good, saying long term use causes bladder cancer. My last A1c was 6.1 although now due for another one. I'm not sure the risk involved with this drug is worth the benefits as my sugar is not out of control and my numbers are always under 175. Is Actos a safe drug to use??

Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
489891 tn?1209058786 m also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar f tn monday, (i am a diabetic, took sugar test said it was 203, for me that is high, current meds are actos, potassium pill, and bp pill) at work, i felt dizzy and nearly passed out, sat down, looking at my manager i started seeing a black cloud over my eyes, didnt completely black out.
Avatar f tn Hi all, My hubby was dx'ed 2 weeks ago w/ diabetes II. His regular doc put him on 30 mg Actos daily. At 1st hubby's blood sugar was a whopping 390- now it's down to 76-90 in the am and no more than 180 even after lots of sugary food. Obviously the blood sugar is well under control now. The problem is, my husband's vision is going crazy! I know that diabetes can cause vision problems when blood sugar is high, but the way it's happening doesn't make sense.
Avatar m tn See an ophthalmologist. Dr.O.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar n tn are advised for all diabetics and others with high risk for heart disease (diabetics are at high risk for heart disease), even when our cholesterol numbers are considered "good" otherwise. I believe that as long as our TOTAL cholesterol is over 100, the statins are shown to be very effective in protecting our heart health. Your doc seems to be applying this new finding in your case.
178107 tn?1315947630 Actos made my appetite surge and I gained 20 lbs with combo Actos/Lantus. I went off Actos but still inject 20 units in evening. BS fast is 215. I do not EAT wrong.
923105 tn?1341827649 Lactulose is a synthetic sugar probably Rx'd to you counteract the constipation effects of opioids. It can raise your blood glucose levels. I normally hear of it being RX'd to liver disease patients not MS patients, but what do I know. "So basically my question is should I keep on taking 'L' or not????" Is it working? If yes, you're in a catch 22 and must pay careful attention to what you eat to help lessen your glucose elevation.
Avatar f tn I took Actos and within a week started having stomach and left side pains. I stopped actos and 75% of the symptoms are gone but I did see my doctor who ordered a CT scan which was normal. My labs have all been normal except I did show 21% atypical lymphs. Mono test was negative and so was H pylori blood test. I suspect the Actos started my problems. I felt bloated and full, pain in one specific area on left side, stomach stopped growling, etc.
456995 tn?1206589507 Hi Everyone. I was recently Dx with Hashimotos disease, and I posted these symptoms on the autoimmune disorder forum, but I thought I'd post here as well. Lately, I have been finding what I think are very small ticks (I have come across a few of them, randomly, in my condo, one was crawling on my bed! Ack!) Anyway, they are pretty tiny, don't necessarily look like what I associate with a tick, but when I looked up pictures that's what they looked like.
Avatar m tn 30am wake up. 2mg Glimepride at 5:00pm before dinner. Take glucose readings just before meds in am and pm. Currently avg 167 in the am and 114 in the pm. Active during the day but little activity during the evening and night. Anyone have information about switching the 30mg Actos + 4mg Glimepride to before dinner and the 2mg Glimepride at wake up in hopes of lowering the morning readings? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I currently take glimepiride 4mg twice daily and actos 15mg once daily. What is the sucess of these two meds. I continue to have high blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn my husband (60) has Type II diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which are being managed very well by Lipitor, Lisenpril, Actos and Metformin. Before he was diagnosed (2004) we enjoyed Ecstasy maybe once every 1 or 2 yrs. It was an amazing experience for both of us, our relationship, our communication. As older adults we managed the experience (reliable source for E, hydration, calm location) carefully and respectfully.
Avatar m tn x/full very interesting study which confirms why simvastatin, lowering cholesterol drug and actos (diabetes 2 drug), have anti hbv activity lowering hbvdna, cancer risk, all this without problems of resistance and acting on all hbv mutants conclusions: The discovery of the mechanisms by which HBV is controlled by the hepatic metabolic milieu may broaden our understanding of the unique regulation of HBV expression and may also explain the mechanisms by which HBV induces liver pathologies.
Avatar n tn Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337. He is very depressed and I feel so bad for him.
Avatar f tn Ask for Actos, I took it for my tyoe II. There are other medications too, talk to your doctor.
Avatar m tn Nonetheless my doctor diagnosed me as pre-diabetic and placed me on medication (Actos) because my HBA1C was way above the normal range. Check out the subject on "Dawns Effect" or "Dawns Phenomenon" on Youtube.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic and I take metformin, actos and glyburide and I had a lucunar infarct 7 months ago. What can I do to not feel like a Zombie constantly?
Avatar m tn I very much agree with you about using an alternative to insulin. I just started Vicotza about 2 weeks ago. I am now on the mid-range dosage of 1.2 mg/day. My side effects have not been debilitating as of yet. I think many things with any disease end up being trade-offs. Do I want to develop CAD vs thyroid disease? and so on. (It's important to note that drug companies have to report all side effects even if there was only a tiny portion of the test population that experienced them).
