2092689 tn?1333628608 The swollen stomach in these cases are from fluid retention. The cough is from an inability to breath properly, due to many things but also from the fluid putting pressure on the lungs. If your dog is drinking more than normal, it could also be a kidney or liver related problem. This is not something that can wait. Please do everything within your power to get her to a vet and ask that blood work is done to help the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has started having issues with fluid retention? If I press on my skin the marks stay for ages. For example if I press lightly with my finger nail on my arm, the mark will stay there for 5-10 minutes or so. I can almost play tic tac toe on my arm before it fades away! My husdband has noticed particularly in the morning as if I sleep with my fingers etc on my face or chest I will have those marks for a good 10minutes after I get up and move around.
666921 tn?1254990618 sometimes when I wake in the morning I feel as though my arms and hands have swollen-up during the night - they feel sort of bigger and harder - occasionally the lower arm muscles have stabbing pains when I get this - my hands don't feel stiff. I don't notice fluid retention in my knees or ankles - which I think I would if it were down to 'fluid retention' in general. Does anyone else get this type of 'thing' ???
1523195 tn?1291322372 When my Doc perscribed Actos for me it made me swell up with fluid right away. In 2 weeks I gained 15 pounds. He had me stop it and I lost it right away. Becareful and watch for any swelling. Also a low carb diet helps alot.

1236243 tn?1277680851 I've been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
Avatar f tn I agree that drinking water is an excellent way to help eliminate fluid retention. Parsley is excellent for helping get rid of excess fluid, as are watercress and dandelion root. Exercise can also help prevent fluid retention.
Avatar f tn I suffer from fluid retention in my legs and ankles and sometimes my face, its not present in the morning, but by the end of the day, im swollen up!
649848 tn?1534633700 My FT's are up in the ranges, where they should be and I no longer have the shortness of breath, at all, even with exercise. I've had fluid retention, off and on, since I was in my 20's; in 2009, when I started this thread, the fluid retention was due mostly to being hypo, not the medication. When I have fluid retention, now, it's not thyroid related. I've found that some teas will get it down rather quickly.
Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
Avatar m tn Thanks!!! I never had the fluid retention before the Synthroid, does that still apply? I know I did not have the water retention before this. Do you think if my levels get better that I will not have this problem? Why would I suddenly get fluid retention when I start Synthroid?

Avatar n tn Hey there I am very new to all of this but I also noticed I had fluid retention when I started Levo a few weeks ago, it sorted itself out on it's own after a few days.
Avatar f tn Hi all, My hubby was dx'ed 2 weeks ago w/ diabetes II. His regular doc put him on 30 mg Actos daily. At 1st hubby's blood sugar was a whopping 390- now it's down to 76-90 in the am and no more than 180 even after lots of sugary food. Obviously the blood sugar is well under control now. The problem is, my husband's vision is going crazy! I know that diabetes can cause vision problems when blood sugar is high, but the way it's happening doesn't make sense.
Avatar f tn It is probably ascites, which is a common occurance with ovarian cancer diagnosed at an advanced stage. Usually, the only way to get rid of it is by tapping, which her doctor has done, or with chemotherapy. Tapping will only relieve the situation, but as you know, it will continue to happen. Chemotherapy can "dry it up" by killing the cancer cells that are causing it. Sometimes it can take a long time, though, depending on how well someone responds to chemotherapy.
Avatar f tn I have not been able to drink any fluids for 9 days due to not being able to swallow as I have muscular dystrophy. The doctor said my blood test say i am hydrated. I haven’t had any urine output today & has been decreasing over the last few days. I have severe chronic fluid retention, can this severe retention give a false hydration result on blood test as it’s counted as fluid?
9945594 tn?1406828866 Fluid retention is not a symptom of hepatitis C. Fluid retention in the lower legs and feet, commonly called peripheral edema, can be a complication of cirrhosis of the liver, advanced liver disease which can be the result of being chronically infected with hepatitis C over many decades. Avatar m tn You should discuss your concerns with your doctor to determine the cause of this fluid retention you are experiencing to see if duiretic treatment is needed depending on the cause.
Avatar f tn Depends on whether the swelling is from fluid retention or something else. Where would you get "fluid" tablets? Has the doctor already prescribed them for you? There are probably directions how to use them then. If this is something new, you should check in with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Two of my many hypo were fluid retention and pain. Fluid retention was notably around my face and abdomen but there was fluid in the lower legs. My face was puffy around the eyes, eyelids, my face was round and with a 2 inch double chin full of fluid...and a very enlarged abdomen that affected my breathing it was so bad. I could not bare even the lightest sheet on my abdomen as it hurt. A LOT of fluid! I also remember my toes aching badly in particular.
