Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn I DO have high myopia (-10) but had no eye problems other than this whatsoever, until I had a chronic sinus problem four years ago after 30 years of life with barely a cold - floaters and symptoms of cataracts (glare, halos etc) arrived within a month or so - despite my hihg myopia i had never seen even one floater. I had had routine but thorough eye exams just before the sinus problem started and no cataracts or floaters were present.
Avatar n tn I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar n tn One may develop some kind of intestinal problems with Actonel and the alternative to that is to not to take drug empty stomach, that is to take it after a meal. Please let us know if you may have nay other queries and what your doctor says. Good luck.
Avatar n tn My optometrist recently informed me I have early cataracts in both eyes. I was shocked due to my age (55) and excellent health (other than my asthma). I read of links between these drugs and cataracts. If I reduce the usage of my inhaled meds would this slow down the cataract progression? Do eye vitamins like Alcon's I-Caps help to slow the progression of cataracts? I can't find any other risk factors and this is really bothering me.
Avatar m tn That study is from 2009 and is flawed, not controlling for the fact that patients on beta blockers are in the older age groups where cataracts are more common. In any case in 2021, beta blockers have many potential side effects but cataracts is not one of them.
Avatar n tn If I remember correctly, there is a possibility it can. They usually will want to do eye testing and monitoring before and during tx. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will soon chime in.
Avatar f tn i did see dr and had blood tests and nothing was found and i was told i was well and feel well, apart from rhinitis which i still get, but i cant help wasting my life worrying. If the steroids are likely to cause PSC I will regret taking them and wish i had used a natural treatment, but at least i will understand why the psc cataracts appeared.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Read the package insert. Any steroid taken any way can cause cataracts or increase IOP. However the risk is quite low with inhalers, much bigger problem with steroid eyedrops or oral steroids.
Avatar m tn Pull up some images of early cataracts and compare them with a clear young lens and you will see how they cause blurred vision. Night vision problem is the #1 symptom by far of "early", "Tiny", Incipient, "baby" cataracts. Those diminutive terms do not mean it doesn't cause symptoms and one reason why night workers, truck drivers and commercial pilots often have to have these small cataracts removed.
561706 tn?1333947274 I was aware Seroquel could cause cataracts when I took it in the past but I never got them and its rare but not unknown but just like when I got heart arrythmia from Geodon I had to change to something else. I believe your psychiatrist just means you have to stay on medication as for "working around it". But you could ask what antipsychotics don't cause cataracts and see if you could tolerate one of them.
Avatar f tn Cataracts after vitrectomies don't act like the slow growing cataracts of age. Cataracts are removed from the eye and don't come back. When you hear someone say that what they mean is that the capsule holding the IOL in place gets filmy. With new IOLS that happends about 15% of the time. If it happens a yag laser capsulotomy is done not another cataract srugery. As I said in my first post see your retina Eye MD for a second opinion about proceeding with cataract surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a couple of bumps on my forehead and left side of head directly above left ear. I had a black left eye and a bloody nose. Everything was fine minus pain. After about 1.5 weeks post incident, my head has started hurting where the bumps are (assuming it’s the healing process). Also, my left eye has some pretty constant pain and a slight degradation to the vision. It’s more apparent at night because it seems like the lights are distorted a little bit. I can still squint and see out of it.
Avatar m tn I am a 39 year old male with severe myopia (contact lens prescription is -12 D in both eyes) and minor astigmatism, and I was recently diagnosed with subcapsular cataracts in both eyes which is at its early stages. Night driving is very difficult for me -- glare and starbursts are a big problem and my vision at night is very poor. I currently wear disposable soft contact lenses.
Avatar m tn My question is can the laser used to repair retinal tears cause cataracts as well? I had a retinal tear repaired by laser last October and another one repaired last January in my left eye. This was done in the doctor's office without the vitrectomy and now I have a cataract on that eye impairing my vision. How long should I wait before having this cataract removed? I am very concerned with the risk of a retinal detachment. Thank you for all your help and have a great evening.
Avatar f tn Polar cataracts are congenital and represent the back of the lens being stuck the the capsule that holds the lens in place. They rarely affect vision. This capsule needs to be kept intact during cataract surgery and the posterior polar sticking to the capsule risks ripping the capsule during cataract surgery.
Avatar f tn I had my 2nd eye cataracts removed & replaced 4 days ago. Different doctors. These cataracts were especially dense and harder to remove and the technician kept putting more & more drops in my eye. One of the first things I noticed after getting home was that the pupil in the operated eye looked off-center. Called doc's office. Technician there said maybe one part of my iris recovered faster than the other. But the pupil is still off-center. Is this likely to be permanent?
387405 tn?1200291137 It all depends on the type of cataracts and how fast they progress and how they affect your vision. Some cataracts develop very, very slowly over 10 years or more and others progress over a few months. Some patients can have very dense cataracts and not be particularly bothered while others with very small posterior subcapsular cataracts can be very bothered especially by glare.
Avatar m tn I started having problems after starting TX with my right eye not focusing properly and started getting double vision at night and has progressed during TX and thought it just maybe the meds at the time and waited until the end of TX to see if it would clear up and at 14 weeks post std soc it has not.
Avatar m tn My father is 94 (people in my family generally live to 100+ years of age) and has cataracts but sees well enough and was considering cataract surgery, but I think he's afraid of it. He seems to see well enough, reads books, does a lot of text messaging on his phone. Do you think genetics has something to do with it, are there exceptions to this or are cataracts like death - sooner or later we will experience it should we live long enough?
Avatar n tn I did`t know I was seeing so bad before surgery, I am seeing better now than before cataracts appears, also and don`t need glasses for far vision, just reading. The procedure was exactly the one Dr. John mention on his post above. But I do have minor problems that will be corrected in a few months. The worst one is OCP (search the forum). It is a commom complication that has a easy solution, but I need to wait because my surgery has only 2 months.
Avatar f tn The doctor put another one in place. My doctor has had alot of problems and still is. Her pressure is high and had to go on glacoma meds to reduce it. HAD THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANY OF YOU OUT THERE? AND HOW ARE YOU?
Avatar n tn It is likely you would need glasses for some tasks even with a multifocal. Monofocals are tried and true and I would reccommend them as well. Good luck with your decision.
