Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth care

Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar f tn Or go to an emergency room or urgent care. In the mean time, ice water in your mouth can help. Rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide mixed with water. And take vitamin C. Drink lots of fluids, and ibuprofen is probably the best thing for the pain and swelling. If you don't have a problem with aspirin, you could try dissolving some baby aspirin on your tooth and the surrounding area. Or oil of cloves to help numb it. But I am not a doctor, so you really should find someone to call.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn I am a 24 yr old female and recently had a tooth abscess that I took care of with 2 different antibiotics (Clyndmiacin and cephelexin). I went to the ER and got the abscess lanced to relieve some of the pressure. I went to my dentist and received a partial root canal. I am feeling no pain in my mouth and the swelling is all gone. Now I'm not sure if the infection is in my heart.
Avatar m tn not however my upper lip and face has begun to swell up and become quite sensitive to touch. after doing some research online I think that I have abscess in my front tooth, but I'm starting to get worried at the fact that my tooth is no longer in pain. Could that mean my tooth is already dead? Also the swelling is getting a little worse every day, I'm not sure how serious all of this is.
Avatar n tn I have a couple questions about how I have been taking care of the abscess' though. The first 2 were not that bad. They were almost like a pimple I popped them and cleaned them out and all the swelling went down and pain went away. I took antibiotics to keep the infection from getting worse...I just got my 3rd one while waiting to go to the dentist. have my methods of cleaning the abscess' out after popping them the best approach.
Avatar f tn I have a tooth abscess on a tooth that is badly chipped/broken and has a major cavity. It's sort of like 1/4 of the tooth is gone and you can feel the gum in that spot. I saw my dentist 4 days ago and was given pencillin, and ibuprofen and vicodin for pain to rid the infection to have it treated. They are closed on weekends, so I haven't tried to call but am not sure if I should seek out some urgent care.

Avatar f tn Its hard for me the answer without being able to do a full diagnosis but I would say any abscess should be taken care of sooner than later. Even if its draining, there is a constant infection present. If the fistula closes, it can spread rapidly to other parts of the mouth, face, neck region, etc. So is your dentist recommending to extract the tooth and place a bone graft in? I'm not what the success rate of a bone graft is when there's an infection in the socket.
Avatar n tn I am calling a new dentist (as the guy who pulled my tooth was not nice, nor did he give me any follow up care instructions) tomorrow and will hopefully have an appointment tomorrow. I just want some input on this nasty taste.. I also heard it was normal after an extraction..
Avatar f tn I went to an Urgent Care clinic due to an abscess in my cheek due to a tooth. My whole left side of my cheek was swollen and sore. The DR. Gave me antibiotics to take for 10 days she said I shouldn't have to have it drained. It has been 24 hours and the swelling has gone down a tad and I feel minimal pain ( mostly when I try to smile). My question is was it necessary for the abscess to be drained or will the antibiotics help it to start draining on its own?
Avatar n tn Your dentist is the best person to advise you regarding when you can go for the tooth extraction. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar m tn As well, did you have the tooth extracted? Almost always the tooth is unsaveable and has to be extracted--antibiotics only solves the problem temporarily. Abscessed teeth (especially upper) are not safe and can lead to serious consequences and need to be taken care of asap. Get to the dentist asap.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Tooth decay if left untreated can cause pain, tooth loss, broken teeth, chewing problems ,tooth abscess and serious infections .An untreated cavity can lead to a tooth abscess and untreated tooth decay can destroy the inside of the tooth pulp which leads to tooth loss. Proper care of the teeth and a regular dental examination is very important for maintaining dental health. See a dentist at the earliest. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn Hi I have had a tooth abscess for almost a year and a half now. Last time I went they just gave me some antibiotics and asked me to live with it. The second time I went was just a week before I knew I was pregnant. She told me I needed a root canal and drilled my teeth, but could'nt complete it. So she left my tooth with that white paste. I did not have any problems with the tooth till date and I avoided the dentist as I was always scared. It is 23 weeks now and I can feel the pain returning.
Avatar f tn I have had an abscess tooth for over a year. I haven't gotten the recommended root canal due to lack of funds. Twice in the past year, my cheek became very swollen, I went to the dentist and got a prescription, which eliminated the infection but never got a follow-up root canal. Since then I developed a small swollen mass on the inside of my gum which was there for about two months, but haven't had any pain in the tooth since then.
Avatar f tn He said a upper tooth on that side showed infection and it had already had a root canal and crown, so he retreated the tooth. He said the tooth smelled horrible while he was cleaning it out. He wasn't going to put me on antibiotics but I kind of insisted. It has been several weeks and the nodes in my neck are still swollen and now the ones under my jaw are swelling up and I have stiffness at the base of the back of my head and neck..
Avatar n tn Hi I have a few questions first thing I have an abscess that is caused by my k9 or eye tooth and the abscess is all along the side of my nose and under my eye I went to urgent care and was given doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice a day along with pain meds but about two days after starting the meds my swelling became really bad my eye was even swollen.
