abscess

Avatar n tn When I massaged the gum with my finger, I got a really foul taste from the gum. So I went to the dentist. He examined the gum and the crown/tooth joint and didn't see anything that looked bad. When he massaged the gum, he didn't see anything, but I still got a slightly foul taste (but not nearly as strong). He then did a percussion test, tapping firmly on all surfaces of the tooth, and I had no pain.
Avatar f tn I have a tooth abscess on a tooth that is badly chipped/broken and has a major cavity. It's sort of like 1/4 of the tooth is gone and you can feel the gum in that spot. I saw my dentist 4 days ago and was given pencillin, and ibuprofen and vicodin for pain to rid the infection to have it treated. They are closed on weekends, so I haven't tried to call but am not sure if I should seek out some urgent care.
Avatar m tn I hace an abscess tooth that has been returning for the past 8 months and now my gum has started turning grey should I go to the er?
Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar f tn I have abscess on gum and another painful toothful but im 32 weeks and scared to go to dentist should i?
Avatar f tn I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.
Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar n tn i have a bump thts as abscess in my upper part of gum i wll pop it but next day r 2 it wll come right back whats thats
Avatar f tn This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum. I know I need to see a dentist and probably get antibiotics but the problem is its christmas day and I wont be able to seek help for several days - possibly a week or more and I cant cope with this pain. Any advice on what I can do at home in the meantime to make it bearable?
Avatar m tn I had a tooth extracted about 6 months ago, but a piece of the root was left in the gum. Recently I developed an abscess from the root and went back to my dentist. He gave me amoxicillin which I finished taking a few days ago, but the gum boil is still there. It's like a big lump on my gum. I've been referred to have the root fragment removed by a different dentist, but the appointment isn't for another 2 months. Should I worry that the gum boil is still there? Should I go back to my dentist?
Avatar n tn Seeing an endodontist is advised.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar f tn I had a piece of tooth that was left in my gum from when I lost the tooth n didn't know until the dentist showed me on x-ray . he pulled the rest of it out and I knew I would be in some pain due to it, but its been over a week and a half and I am still having pain in the gum area of where it was pulled.. he gave me ibeprofen 8oo mg for the pain but its not working to much.. I still wake up in the middle of the night in pain.. I do the salt water rinse but nothing.. what else can i do?
Avatar f tn I had an extraction of a baby tooth 6 days ago, dentist told me there was an abscess and the tooth had to be removed. I don't have a permanent tooth over it. The abscess got better within 48 hours of extraction. After 4 days I noticed that one of the sides of the extraction site started to get swollen so i went back to the dentist. He told me there was no infection and recommended to rinse with warm salt water. Today its the 6th day.
Avatar f tn I have been cleaning it regularly with salt water and the pain is not in tooth, but mostly in the gum/cheek area above the back molar. I went to see the dentist (I am staying in Bahrain to visit my dad who works here, and went to a dentist here). The dentist, in my opinion, wasn't very good, and told me that I needed a root canal (Duh), and to take an anti-inflammatory, (duh again). He said i didn't need antibiotics as the infection wasn't that big and my body would fight it off.
Avatar m tn i live in pain for the past 28 years of my life... Two days ago a tooth that has been cracked for about 6 months developed an abscess.. i got the routine pain along with a bit of swelling, however no bubble in the gum line.. I woke up yesterday with a bit of swelling in the cheek, and put myself on amoxicillin which i have plenty left from previous incidents.. Normally when i have an abscess, i'll switch between amoxicillin and penicillin to keep my body from adapting to either type of med.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your teeth are sound and that you have an abscess originating from the gum/bone attachment rather than the tooth itself. Popping the pimple releases the pus and helps to drain the area and the antibiotics also help to keep the infection in check. I would recommend swishing with a warm salt rinse to help pull fluids from the swelling to help reduce it. The best course of action is to treat the actual infection though and to resolve it.

Avatar n tn The most common points of dental break down are at the gum line and at the tip of the tooth root where the nerve enters, although structure of the entire tooth itself will weaken. As sugar is absorbed right through tissues of the mouth, acidic chemistry swaths the tooth. It can eat holes through the side of a tooth and concentrates at the root tip.
Avatar m tn Crooked teeth can lead to periodontal disease and premature wear of your enamel. Tooth decay and abscess formation may cause pain in the gums. It is best to get examined and initiate treatment as soon as possible. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
