Abilify in the elderly

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify in the elderly

abilify

Avatar n tn ILADVOCATE is right every time I look up an antipsychotic including Abilify I see a warning about using them in elderly patients with dementia. I would ask the doctor if there are other options instead of antipsychotics.
Avatar n tn Weight gain and diabetes is a problem with all of the atypical antipsychotics because of the receptors they target in the brain (in addition to the ones they are supposed to work on) which cause metabolic imbalances. If kept in check it generally is not permanent though but any changes in weight or appetite should be reported to a psychiatrist. The antipsychotics most likely to cause this are Clozaril and Zyprexa. The least is Abilify though of course it can and does happen.
Avatar n tn First I would like to know who perscribed Ativan to you for depression. And why they have kept you on if for "years." Ativan is NOT an antidepressant and has no affinity for that disorder. It's a short acting benzodiazipine. (Antianxiety) The main uses for Ativan are anxiety, irritability in psychiatric or organic disorders, preoperatively, insomnia, and as an adjunct in endoscopic procedures.
765828 tn?1306263868 I've been feeling really bummed out ... I recently added Abilify to my list of many medications and it has made a wonderful difference, but you know, nothing is perfect. Has anyone tried Abilify in combination with anything else and had success? Or not? What cheers you up when you're really, really down? When I'm down, I'm down. There's no getting me up - I just lay in bed feeling blah, which is of course, natural. But still, things used to cheer me up.
Avatar f tn Patients should not use ABILIFY if they are allergic to aripiprazole or any of the ingredients in ABILIFY. Allergic reactions have ranged from rash, hives and itching to anaphylaxis, which may include difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
Avatar f tn He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us). He said to me, when getting old all the bones shrink, so can feel the body aching. He said exercise is important. Even he was on the bed, he also moving his toes and fingers a lot.
Avatar m tn That most probably is prolactin elevation which can cause female hormones to increase in males so that there is sexual dysfunction and pain in the nipple area. Having discharge from the nipples can occur too. I did experience that when I was on standard antipsychotics and its a common side effect. It depends on its severity. Having breast milk is rare but that can happen. It should go away in time. However keep your doctor informed and they will follow up.
1100992 tn?1262357216 See, I'm not a night owl. Once 9 0 clock hits, I am so ready for bed. Plus being rapid cycling, I have a different mood every day or two. I take something so I can go to sleep at night, so I don't seem to notice when I'm more manic-y at night. I used to wake up anyway but the Abilify is helping with that. I always wake up in the "mood du jour" LOL.
Avatar n tn Having not wanting to deal with the symptoms I was switched to 20mg of Abilify. They told me the abilify would not cause any problems of sexual dysfunction, but after I started taking it the problems seemed to get worse and worse. It's got to the point where it's difficult if not sometimes impossible to obtain an erection and even harder to ejaculate. I am wondering what I can do or take to reverse these side effects?
1714202 tn?1352672419 Hey all, new to this page. I've written in the alcoholism part before. Anyway, I've recently been diagnosed with bipolar 2 which I've assumed for years! I'm on abilify, lamictal, celexa, and ativan. I'm constantly fidgety and results, and can't concentrate on anything at all right now! There's more too but those are the most annoying right now. Am I still manic or is this side effects from my medication? Any advice would be helpful.
Avatar n tn Go with lots and lots of fiber, at least the minimun daily requirement and this should help unless she is developing IBS. Try this and if it doesn't work have her see a GI dr.
Avatar n tn we have tried several meds. currently he is on 50 mg of vyvanse, 40 mg of citalopram and 2mg of abilify a day. his behavior is beyond horrible. should i just take him off meds?
13126824 tn?1428652469 My sugar levels were heightened due to Abilify, but I am now taking Metfforman to level out my sugar level because Abilify has the ability to heighten sugar levels. I am not a diabetic. Does cholesterol have anything to do with this cramping?
Avatar f tn I'm in so much pain. It's like Satan placed his hairy *** cheeks on my life. Last August of 2015 I stopped taking Abilify, after taking it for a year because it caused me to shake a lot, and I was worried about getting tardive dyskinesia. Also, last year I've been working hard animating and drawing daily, because i want to be an animator.
Avatar m tn t go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late. By nipping things in the bud we can prevent any serious problems in the future. You should also get him on probiotics either a supplement or yogurt enriched with it. We are more apt to develop polyps after the age of 50 and that's why they suggest we start having colonoscopies at age 50.
Avatar f tn But yesterday my doctor decided to add Wellbutrin as a combination to it as well. I feel like the Abilify has been a good fit, at first, I did shake a bit and I had terrible light sensitivity. But it went away after the third week. I still feel a bit dozed out when I take it, but I figured since the beginning, that all psych meds do that. (So it’s not much of a crazy effect) But, I am kind of nervous starting this Wellbutrin, because I don’t want it to have a bad interaction with the Abilify.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar f tn m a little afraid of the seroquel. i develpoed a bad twitching in the right side of my face from the abilify. and it was only 1mg. hope someone has some answers.
Avatar f tn I was on Zyprexa and the sister drug Risperdal.... Loved how it took me off the edge...HATED the weight gain.... Abilify was suggested years ago- For me, abilify worked well enough on its own- I am a rapid cycler Biploar II. At one point I was on 14 different medications..... in the end Abilify was my "balance" I was able to experience moods, but not in the extreme measures that I was... Personally, I liked abilify- i had that and PRN of seroqoel.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Avatar n tn Prozac interacts with Abilify and may increase the concentration of Abilify in your body. That may be the reason why you are experiencing the side effects. If you just started on Abilify then you should go talk to your doctor and let him know that you cannot tolerate the side effects and be put on something else.
Avatar f tn Abilify 5mg was added and the sun came out. Was later DX with BPII. ALSO, after 8 yrs on Abilify, had unexplained weight gain of 15-20 lbs. in spite of good diet, reg exercise. Now weaning off Abilify due to wt. gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
