Common Questions and Answers about Abilify get high

abilify

526311 tn?1229289930 There is no 'high' with abilify so I think you are safe. I take it for bipolar disorder. If you were to take more than you needed you would make yourself sick but not high because each dosage increase often causes side effects like nausea and constipation. Your brain will get used to the drug and discontinuing it will cause certain symptoms. But it isn't addiction. It is just your brain complaining because you are altaring its chemistry. So I think you are okay.
526901 tn?1216337827 Forgot to mention 15 mg. does seem like a high dose of Abilify. Pehaps the does is way too high. I'm on 2mg and my doc says most of his patients are on 5-8mg. a day. I bet the high dose may have caused the panic attacks. Check the side effects, nervousness may be one and in you it could manifest as panic attacks. Best of luck!!
574118 tn?1305138884 //www.askdrjones.com/2005/02/14/ranking-the-mood-stabilizers/ . To tell you the truth I became happy because I know tegretol needs blood tests, etc…while abilify has a few side effects except some anxiety. I only became suspicious about its potency as a mood stabilizer. Otherwise why do pdocs recommend always one of the triads (lithium, depakote, tegretol) or lamictal lately. Never did I hear an AP to be working as a MS although in www.bipolar.net they even mention seroquel.

Avatar f tn I am currently on Geodone because that was the one with the most tolerable side effects. I get bad agitation, shake to the point I had one person assume I had Parkinson's disease, and have lost a considerable amount of weight to the point I am down to a size four when I should be closer to a size six. Needless to say I really want to get off the Geodone. I also have Chronic Kidney Disease so taking more meds would be a bad idea. I am wondering about Abilify instead of Geodone.
Avatar n tn I tried to stop taking zoloft and abilify about three months ago. I tapered off the zoloft and stopped the abilify cold turkey, per doctor's advice. I had mild side effects for the first month and then totally crashed. Needless to say, I called my doctor in desperation and was represcribed both medications. I feel much better, but am still very serious about stopping the medications sooner than later.
Avatar m tn Well, if you decide not to treat pyschosis due to risk of TD, that isn't smart choice as pyschosis will get worsen and get incurable and untreatable... with even worse symptoms that is just a torment.
9395876 tn?1403632187 My recent blood test came back showing my liver results were high and my psychiatrist thinks its the 30mg dose of abilify. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going in to see my family practitioner but I'm worried about the lower dosage because my schizophrenia symptoms might return.

Avatar f tn (chocolate is a stimulant) 3) Keep a daily rountine, even if it's the simplest things, like getting up at 8am, breakfast, shower, 4 block walk, read a book. You get my gist. Don't place high expectations. 4) Maintaining physical health, eat at least 2 meals a day, you don't have to be a vegetarian, but eating a bag of chips every day is not going to make you feel good. 5) Get a full physical done. Make sure any underlying causes are addressed like thryroid conditions.
Avatar n tn I guess my basic question is, if my doctor switched me to Abilify, what would the Abilify be replacing - the Depakote, or the Risperdal, or both? Also, could I take the Abilify at night or is it likely to interrupt my sleep? I am overweight with borderline high cholesterol and drink a lot of sugary sodas. While not diabetic, I am always afraid I will some day soon be diagnosed with that.

603543 tn?1255298050 Hopefully under their care and supervision you can find the right medication, at the right dose, and feel better.. Abilify didn't work for me at all, but then again, I've tried several different meds. The worst by far for me was Geodon... I was on for two weeks and literally could not function. I was dizzy, sick, hot, cold, tired, couldn't sleep, vision was terribly blurred.... I finally went back on my Seroquel (200mg/day) last night and the anxiety has certainly been relieved.
1011752 tn?1269245119 The increase in Abilify should help out and I hope things work out for you. I ended up stopping the Abilify because it made me gain 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Well, it made me hungry enough to eat enough to gain that much. I've already got a bit of a weight problem so I figured the risks didn't outweigh the positives. It wasn't really working with my mania anyway. I am curious about the Lithium. Is it scary to be on such a high dose? I know the risks are pretty extensive.
Avatar f tn Hi The only one reason i can think of right now, is that abilify may cause you to have high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). This is why they tell you to talk to your doctor if you develop any sign of this such as increased thirst or urination, excessive hunger, or weakness. More crucial if you are already diabetic you should regularly check your blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn I also got familar with the symptoms of high blood sugar so I could watch it myself. I bet if you ask a doc on th forums you'll get the same answer. I've been with my doc 5 years and he's the best psychaitrist in Scottsdale, I know he wouldn't put me on a drug that could cause me harm. I wouldn't worry about i too much. I do have a family history of diabetes too.
1700643 tn?1464850282 I take an AD along with Abilify. Within a week after Abilify was added I started to feel better. Right now I take 15 mg but I have taken as much as 30mg. I did get akathisia from it (restlessness ) but added propranolol which stopped it. Akathisia is a common side effect.
569026 tn?1216985893 I have all the above disorders and have been on all the SSSR'i too but none helped. Abilify was the only thing that helped me get through those mood swings.
Avatar f tn My doctor wants me to start on Abilify but I declined after I read the side effects. Has anyone had any uncontrolled movements, weight gain, tardive dyskinesia, etc. with this medication. If so, please let me know. I really need a medication to replace the ones I went off of but my doctor is giving me no other choices. I'm absolutely scared to death about the side effects of this medication. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated.
574118 tn?1305138884 I have been on various medications, including Abilify and Lamictal. Abilify made me gain a lot of weight so I came off of that.
Avatar f tn What works for some doesn't work for others. If you end up not being able to get Abilify, just know you have other options. It sounds like you will be much better off without this man in your life. Know you can move on and take care of you. My best to you!
Avatar f tn When I do they are usually stress induced. My psychiatrist gave me Abilify. Does anyone have insight on this drug? My psychiatrist said the most common side effects are muscle twitching and muscle stiffness. I have been on the same meds for years and I am really scared to take a new one.
Avatar f tn they won't actually take the time to listen to my progression of symptoms, so I decided to turn to a medical forum in the hopes someone out there can provide insight. I went on Abilify in December 2011, by itself--I was not taking anything else at the time, not even birth control. My dosage was increased gradually to 5 mg, split and taken twice a day, for trichotillomania (an impulse disorder in which I pull out my hair).
Avatar n tn I read every bit of the side effects paper work given with the Abilify. My son after 2 doses of the 1/2 a pill of Abilify is having tremors. The paper work I was given do NOT state this as a side effect but some websites did state this was a side effect for children taking this medication. My question is are tremors a common side effect or an extreme side effect that would mean my child should not take this medication.

I also having a very high cholesterol of the hunger the meds making. I esting junkfood and sweets everyday chause this meds. I have never heard voices or seen things that isnt actually there before. What can happen if i quit abilify and zoloft cold turkey for the 3rd time now?
Avatar n tn This i realise is not an answer to your question, but i do have a son who was sever ADHD and has grown up without meds to be a high achiever. HAve you tried behaviour modification with an expert. This worked greatly for my son. Also if he askes for something and you say "no" you cant change your mind a few days later after him begging. You are training him to be manipulative. I rarely say 'no ' to my boy but when i do I really mean it.
Avatar f tn I recently changed antipsychotics from Zeldox (Geodone) 160mg to Abilify 10mg. I am also on 200mg of lamotrigine and 50mg of Trazodone. I took my first full dose of Abilify on Friday the 6th and today is the 11th The Abilify is working about 70%. I have been crying more, I wrote a big long blog about how life is useless because I can't work full time and be a parent and all those other 'normal' things the drug companies promise you that you can do if you just take their drug.
Avatar f tn Hello friend Lamictal made me feel absalutely horrendous. Night sweats high blood pressure and serious tardive discasia.
