can an 11yr old have bipolar? My son has been diagnosed with ADHD, mood disorder, and possible Asperger's Syndrome. Lately we are trying to decrease Abilify and titrate Carbotral. So far he is extremely(manic), aggressive and violent in the afternoons. my question i guess is, do mood stabilizers wear off at some point in the day?
Does any one take Abilify if so for what reason and does it work? my Dr. just put me on 2mg for anxity and i want true answers I just hate to take something thats not gonna work and then I have to try something else..
while i was on abilify i was very sick, it mad me hear voices. & i was throwing up and dizzy all the time that pill should not be for children or teens. it has so many side affects like you could die from it suffer sever heart attacks. but thats goverment drugs for you..
He was taking all of these up until about two weeks ago and at that time, he stopped taking Abilify. He was prescribed Lamictal in lieu of Abilify, but we had to wait until we got the correct dosage before taking him off Abilify. His tics seemed to be less intense while on Abilify. Could this be my imagination since at this time the tics and more intense and prevalent?
He needs a significant degree of structure and hopefully his school program is a small, highly structured, self-contained classroom for children who display serious emotional and behavioral problems. He may an increase in his Abilify. By the way, I do disagree with your conclusion that he cannot obtain the help he needs in out-of-home settings. Depending on the nature of the facility, he may well require more inpatient or residential treatment help.
He does not have depressive symptoms--he gets manic and hears voices when he is stressed so we also have him on a low dose of risperidone and also Abilify (which has been our miracle drug). Mood swings are getting worse and he is getting more aggressive at home (hits walls). Besides getting him a punching bag, I wondered if anyone has had better experience with a different mood stabilizer--maybe something new? We tried tegretol with no effect when he was first diagnosed.
I thought it was working at first but then all of a sudden it stopped working. So starting today doctor has added abilify. Who knows maybe it will help. Hope so.

Oh on a very sad note, my sons very best friend since junior high passed away on the 4th of July. Unfortunately he was an addict/alcoholic. The cops had picked him up for public drunkenness and schedule 2 narcotics. A few hours later he passed away in jail. His family tried everything to help him.
My son is extremely hyperactive. Lately it's gotten worse. He can't even keep food down, because he is all over the place afterward. He also has some serious sensory issues. He smears poop & vomit. Would Abilify help with these issues? If not, what would? We are desperate. He hasn't kept food down for 5 days. We brought him to the ER, but there was nothing they could to do, because he isn't sick. I talked to his specialist yesterday.
The Cymbalta 120mg and the abilify was 5mg before attack. After they upped her abilify to 8mg. After a few weeks, she finally got better like the doctor thought she would. The protocol has worked on quite a few people.Also if all of you recall the sample protocol worked on my younger daughter also when she developed it.
In regards to what we have it is a genetic form of Dysautonomia with POTS being the main symptom among numerous others. She only passed out during TTT.

I am on zoloft which does not help with my anxiety, does adding abilify help with the anxiety and the depression?
There is no reason you can't take Abilify with Zoloft. I take Abilify with several other medications. It started working within 2 weeks and my depression decreased dramatically. One common side effect of Abilify is akathisia, a restless need to move. I have that but added propranolol and it stopped it completely with no other side effects.
Lightheadedness and uncontrollable shaking are side effects of Abilify. Some other ones are weight gain, nausea and dizziness. Prozac interacts with Abilify and may increase the concentration of Abilify in your body. That may be the reason why you are experiencing the side effects. If you just started on Abilify then you should go talk to your doctor and let him know that you cannot tolerate the side effects and be put on something else.
I tried Abilify with my antidepressant. After a few months on Abilify, my anxiety was actually worse. I noticed that the Abilify caused me to be agitated and restless (like I couldn't get confortable or sit still, kind of jittery)
Abilify is really ment more to aid in the treatment of depression than it is anxiety. It's designed to be used as an antidepressant add on drug to give a bit more antidepressant punch rather than an anti-anxiety punch.

Have you had these symptoms checked out by your GP? Abilify does cause shaking and tremors, and just because your psychiatrist hasn't seen these side effects doesn't mean they aren't being caused by the Abilify. I doubt the Abilify is doing much to help you, it's rare to get this many years out of one medication as our bodies build up a tolerance to these types of medications.
I have been on Abilify for 2 months or so, give or take. I am not schizophrenic, Bi-Polar, or Autistic. I just suffer from Panic Attacks. My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous.
He knows you are talking about him, when he goes to bed etc. children listen. Do not discuss it when he is in the house. It is very unfair to a kid to make his problem your main focus. Play it down at all times and aim to get on with your own life and take the focus off him somewhat.
Try to keep cool and be matter of fact with him at all times. Never reward him by giving negative energy when he is being 'bad' notice when he is settled and enjoy the good..
