569026 tn?1216982293 I have mixed stat bipolar I so it works great for me. Give it a go, you will know within a few weeks, Abilify kicks in quick. Well it did for me! I love not "swinging" anymore and I feel stable most of the time. I get a little down here and there, but for the most part I am leading a normal life now. Good luck.

Children with bipolar like to manipulate. Some bipolar children are described as “the bully on the playground.” 9. Avatar f tn thanks for your response i believe abilify is approved for children the doctors have mentioned it to me before. The risperdal seems very heavy duty to me i would like to take care of more than one problem with one medication i will read more about abilify.
Avatar n tn seroquel, Abilify, Risperdal, Geodon), even though it has become quite common to prescribe these medications to young children. The FDA has not approved most antipsychotics for the treatment of Bipolar Disorder in children. Find out which meds have been approved for the treatment of specific disorders, and get a second opinion. Also, please be advised that there is only clinical support for the diagnosis of early onset Bipolar Disorder.

569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and ADHD. My Dr. wanted to put me on Abilify. My question is will Abilify help me with my mood swings caused by Bipolar 2???
1356915 tn?1277344103 I was wondering how Abilify added to an anti-depressant affects a bipolar II? Will it cause Mania?
1499921 tn?1308446605 My brother still takes it to this day. Abilify made it hard for me to control my weight and motivation. I was thought to have bipolar disorder however since I have been away from my adoptive mom I have had no symptoms of mental illness. I think the first couple of weeks you are on it you are great. However, after that first month you’re less in a state of control. At that point I seem to see that true benefit of the drug is in effect. Abilify is less helpful after the first month.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
Avatar f tn For bipolar type 2 a typical dose would be 2.5 to 5 mg, for bipolar type 1 a typical dose would be 15 to 25 mg a day. The data on Abilify's effectiveness generally find it to be somewhat less effective than other atypicals, at least in the acute phase of treatment. However, some people do amazingly well on it. It doesn't cause as much weight loss as Geodon... it is pretty close to weight neutral...
Avatar n tn As anti-psychotics can create diabetes and tardive dyskinesia if a person has straight bipolar (as opposed to bipolar with psychotic features where an anti-psychotic is absolutely needed) there is the potential to change to a mood stabilizer, none of which have the risk of creating tardive dyskinesia and out of all of them Lamictal has the least potential for weight gain and is generally safe and effective. Perhaps you could ask your psychiatrist about Lamictal.
Avatar n tn Please consider the fact that your ex-wife may be overwhelmed and desparate, as many parents of bipolar children are. I take a lot of meds myself, and they work really well until they need to be adjusted, and then it's really hard. Also, I'd try really hard to work with your ex to get the best combo of drugs. Like it or not, she needs to be part of the solution.
Avatar f tn I recently changed antipsychotics from Zeldox (Geodone) 160mg to Abilify 10mg. I am also on 200mg of lamotrigine and 50mg of Trazodone. I took my first full dose of Abilify on Friday the 6th and today is the 11th The Abilify is working about 70%. I have been crying more, I wrote a big long blog about how life is useless because I can't work full time and be a parent and all those other 'normal' things the drug companies promise you that you can do if you just take their drug.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I've just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am on Wellbutrin and Abilify now and they are working together very well. I no longer have symptoms of being bipolar! I LOVE LOVE abilify. It balanced my sleep patterns again and I feel so much better on it. It is great for mixed state bipolar, which I am. I had side effects in the beginning and started on 5mg. I am now on 10mg and doing quite well. At first all that happened to me is I got constipated and have more acne.
1564087 tn?1308947518 heya, i've been diagnose with bipolar 1 and suffer from hallucinations at times. doctors put me on sequel xr.. but wasn't happy with it. now they have me on abilify and effexor but i'm worried about side effects... guess i'm just wondering what peoples experiences have been with the medication?
1280947 tn?1278376332 I am Bipolar I and I can tell you depression if very much a part of being Bipolar. Abilify is an antiphycotic medication and is perscribed for bipolar and schizophrenia. I personally refuse to take antiphycotics due to side effects but I do take a mood stabilizer and antidepressants. More and more people suffering from depression alone are being prescribed mood stabilzers because of their success in treating an array of symptoms.
571167 tn?1223214465 It is used under the name of Cogentin for the treatment of Parkinsons Disease.
447130 tn?1225470866 I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?
1912569 tn?1485015929 I was diagnosed about a month ago with PTSD and a mood disorder but I'm still wondering if that mood disorder is bipolar. Specifically bp2. I've been put on Abilify 2mg. Before diagnosis and medication this is how my life has been: extreme hypersexuality, which resulted in promiscuity outside of my marriage and now divorce. I was also having lots of mood swings and got mad over stupid little things or cried uncontrollably. Sometimes very hostile and would throw things.
Avatar f tn //www.abilify.com/abilify/home/index.jsp . They also have some useful information on the disorder and how abilify works to help control moods. - it seems to have less side effects than some drugs of its type based on what I have read.
Avatar n tn When I looked up weight gain and bipolar medications, Abilify was at the bottom of the list for weight gain, Geodon people gained the least then Abilify. I'm on 2mg. of Abilify and in the begining you tend to feel sleepy, that's why they start you on it at bedtime. I would be surprised if Abilify caused a racing heart but you definately have to tell your doc about that. I was also on Wellbutrin and had to come off because it caused to much anxiety.
Avatar f tn Yes you have bipolar disorder. See a psychiatrist and get meds. Lamictal, Lithium, and Abilify are good for starters. They're the most common, safer meds. When you tell your mom that you want to get checked out I would recommend not mentioning the bipolar thing. A lot of parents don't believe that their children have such a disorder. Just tell her that you're sad and want someone to talk to that has an unbiased opinion.
Avatar f tn re aware you are on the bipolar forum. The people who come here have bipolar disorder or a friend or family member that has bipolar disorder and they're looking for help.
