zyrtec

I have had hives for years off and on and for a year non-stop. I have lots of allergies and have been treated for them for 40 years. A few years ago I was going through menopause and was put on a maintenance dose of antibiotics to be taken at different times during the month. I became allergic to everything I took and my hives got extremely worse. I was like the person above that could write letters on her body. Everything I touched seemed to give me hives. Pressure, heat, cold, etc.
(That whole week she had not much appetite but that was the end of the story for her. Now my 2 1/2 year old right around the same time my 4 year old had diarrhea.....threw up at the supper table on a Thursday night. She went to bed had 1 episode of diarrhea the next day and was great (ate great too). 4 days later (Monday night) had a sore belly & threw up at night again....next day....1 episode of diarrhea.
Yes. In the drug book I have, it lists benadryl as an anti-tussive (cough suppressant). There are sooo many drugs that are given for other reasons (allergies, pain meds, anti-nausea, etc) that are cough suppressants as well. i/e hydrocodone (one brand name is lortab) is also a cough suppressant, phenergan (anti nausea) is also a cough suppressant...Of course the examples I gave are rx and not recommended for children. benadryl would be fine, just give the recommended dosage for their age/weight.
Now he just gets a zyrtec every day, and if his allergies act up beyond the zyrtec's control, like this time of year ,he gets a prednisone per day for 3 or 4 days and then every other day for two or until things calm down. zyrtec can be expensive, but we actually found a generic brand at the dollar store! $1. for 14 pills, so we clear their shelves!
Hi, I am a 59 year old women in the UK who has suffered this unbearable itching on both arms (alternately) for about 10 years.it has worsened with each attack and I have currently had it for about 7 weeks..all day..every day. My doctor told me about 3 years ago that it was Hives,so I have been taking anti histamines, these have gradually helped me less and less..I have only just discovered this site and am amazed to discover that my symptons are BRP and not Hives!
I'm 22 and have had this post nasal drip for around a year and a half. Whats most annoying thing for me personally is the effect it has on my speech, probably from the thick mucous. Anyway just a few things I thought I'd share with you. I seen an ENT specialist around 4 months ago who diagnosed something called LPRD, which is very similar to acid reflux, but worth reading up on.
I know how very frightening and debilitating this is, and feel compelled to let others know that my doctor eliminated all symptoms in a weeks time, but had me follow a routine for a few months to strengthen my neck. I have been totally symptom free for well over a year. Can this be the case with all sufferers? I don't know, but I was angry with all of the other doctors that never even breathed the word chiropractor to me.
Did your wife ever take xolair for her urticaria? My 20 year old daughter has severe chronic autoimmune urticaria. Her physicians have started working with our insurance company to try to get her approved for xolair. They are telling us several thousand per injection twice monthly. I'm interested to see if anyone is getting positive results from this.
I'm just wondering why the insomnia didn't hit til this last 8 days or so. The only thing different I'm taking is generic zyrtec for the hives/itching. I have read it can cause insomnia, but normally in the zyrtec-D form? So my question is, if I stay on the Levoxyl is there a chance this is a transitory side effect and it will dissipate in time?
I am a 50 year old male, who for the last few years, seems to have violent coughing/ gasping for breathe when encountered with: stale air (eg. Closed cars) or strong odor (eg. Car exhaust). I have been tested to be allergic to dust/ dust mites. After a couple of minutes of coughing and spiting out and having a tablet of Benadryl allergy medication, things are pretty normal. The above mentioned reactions happen mostly in morning.
5 mg 4 times a day may work better for you than 25 mg 2 times a day. You'd have to figure out how the forth is taken, you may need to take 12.5 mg every 8 hours with the last one before bed time being two doses, that is it would be the old 25 mg dose. I will guess your doctor would not have a problem with such a suggestion. for example: 12.5 mg at 8 am and at 4 pm and 25 mg at midnight.
It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it. The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after.
The DR put him on keppra (in which had too many side effects), then Topamax and valium, in which he stayed on for 2 1/2 months. He continued to have the seizures, sometimes 4 a day, and sometimes 3 days in between them. At this point he was 17 months old, and after researching the effects of topamax online myself and no seizures for 4 weeks, I slowly and correctly weaned him off of the medication all together. He has had no seizure since then....
(Have also had dematographism for 9 years - zyrtec treatment) Symptoms became unbearable. Allergist upped zyrtec to another 10 mg and added ranitidine 300 mg.(generic Zantac - also a histamine blocker) at night. This has prevented the swelling, but hives are there daily. Thyroid function is normal, but blood test revealed very high antibodies -- possible Hashimoto's. Went to endo. She put me on low dose of Synthroid, 50 mcg, to see if this does anything for the hives down the road.
Hi, I am a 26 year old female from Southeastern Georgia, who has been experiencing some pretty unrelenting symptoms for three years. My doctor's have tried to pinpoint a condition that could be causing these symptoms. Looking at my laboratory testing done on December 4th, I see that my Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Erythrocyte, Potassium, and Creatinine levels are all low, this has not been a problem up until now. Each of which seems to decrease in value each time I have labs done.
I have all the symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylitis, but that is usually found in men and at a much earlier age... I am a 57 year old female! At times the lymph nodes under my arms are sore. I also have had some afternoons where my body temperature has dropped to 96.4 and I am freezing! Many of my symptoms also seem to have an inflammatory nature...so I'm hoping it's not cancer. Any help is appreciated...
So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them? These doctors seem to forget their pharmacology training. They also forget to use their independent thinking and ability to look up information for themselves.

About 24 years ago when my youngest child (of 2) was 4...5 years old I developed hives for about a year...but they weren't as severe as they are now. Whenever I had a sinus infection or other bacterial infection and was on antibiotics...the hives would disappear. I went to many allergy specialists at that time but none of the doctors wanted to give hormone tests, as I wasn't diagnosed with hypo until about 5 years ago. The hives just disappeared and didn't reappear for 24 years.

I am a 27 year-old woman and I have had chronic autoimmune hives for about 3-4 years now. Like others, the first incident was a reaction of hives & angiodema to ibuprofin, which I had been taking for years. Now, I get them all the time, for no reason. I've been on hydroxizine, xyzal, fexofenidine, doxepin, claritan, ranitidine, and of course, the dreaded prednisone. I have found that all anti-histhamines so far have little to no effect.
I first got the Itch after Dental treatment I thought something like the Numbing agent caused it ,it lasted the first time for a year mostly neck area and some on the arms, went away, came back 4 weeks ago again with Dental work, the Dentist says No not anything he did or gave me , put me on antibiotics!! I have noticed a definate pattern to it, I dont exercise like you guys, OK I am lazy nowadays!
But like I said since learning to avoid corn properly I have stopped needed the zyrtec. On the occasions when I had taken too much zyrtec - and i mean too much for me - i never got anywhere near overdosing - when the mucous got to thick and hard to move I tried a saline nasal wash - this softened it up enough to get it out. Sometimes if the saline was too salty it ouwld make it worse - then I'd rinse with a weak solution and be okay.
The two years before that I was only on it twice, and for the 17 years before that ocassionally, but not once a year. Eighteen years ago was another bad year for allergies and sinus infections. I was on mederol dose packs about 5 times, low dosage. After allergy testing found nothing, my husband and I decided that it was some "high tech" air filters that he had gotten. We got rid of those and I stopped having the sinus infections.
