zyprexa

739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
Avatar f tn About three weeks ago I found a website concerning a class action lawsuit against the makers of Serqouel and decided I would stop using same. Now I cannot sleep for nothing. Has this drug messed with my brain chemistry? Is this a drug that should have been tapered, is it addicting? Can you help me? I guess I should add that I'm not on Suboxone anymore, and have NEVER had sleep problems.
874521 tn?1424116797 There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
Avatar n tn I did however, gain loads of weight on it and finally had to stop taking it because I developed type 1 diabetes. As to whether the Zyprexa causing my diabetes, I have had opinions on both sides. Some doctors said it did, some said it didn't. They did all agree however, that at 30mg I was on a very high dose, but it did work very well for me. I changed to 700mg of Seroquel, and found that worked even better for me. and my Doctor tells me that it is not so bad with the diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hello, can you please tell me if it is Ok to use Zyprexa for anxiety as it has been prescribed. Is it true, it can cause diabetes and if so after how long ?
Avatar f tn I took zyprexa for 4 years, gained 50lbs while taking it and developed sugar metabolism problems. After I quit zyprexa, my general doctor, prescribed metformin, which helped me lose the additional weight. But it seems that the sugar metabolism problems are here to stay. When I look back, I wished I was given other options to Zyprexa. In my case the benefits were not worth the side effects. I am not a doctor, but I do think your headaches and other symptoms are drug related.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my Doc said I should come off Zyprexa as it is not good for people with diabetes.
Avatar f tn I have been to see pdoc today after having a bit of a wobble following 2 months off medication (did not go cold turkey, did it over 3 months). She has prescribed me Zyprexa but I am really scared about taking it, I really don't want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote.
Avatar n tn The rash side effect of Lamictal can be fatal so thank goodness you are okay. I had not heard of the diabetes with Zyprexa before, I would read the fine print on your med insert for sure. I wonder what Topomax would do for you or possibly Abilify which has fewer side effects, especially in the eating department. Ya know we are unfortunately part of the pharmaceutical rat race and often times doctors have more experience with one med or another due to what the drug reps are pushing.
Avatar n tn What side effects would there be, if any , if a person was prescribed zyprexa and had been taking it for 3-4 years, but were wrongly diagnosed and did not need it?
8798274 tn?1399988458 I am not anxious, paranoid or depressed now but I cannot sleep without taking gabapentin (I am never tired or sleepy, there are other people describing a situation similar to mine after stop taking Zyprexa). I am worry, because the same way Zyprexa can make people have diabetes, it can permanently disrupt other psychological process in the brain an produce this chronic insomnia. I am incline to think that the damage is at the hypothalamus, I am never hungry or thirsty.
Avatar n tn Well I can say for myself that I'd be concerned taking more than one anti-psychotic at a time. That's how I developed severe tardive dyskinesia to begin with which the rate of developing it as my psychopharmocologist stated "with typicals 5% per person per year and atypical antipsychotics 2.5% per person per year". Every antipsychotic you are one are atypical antipsychotics but I would see no reason you should be on more than one.
698408 tn?1256958348 If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to. There have been warnings issued about it after it is was shown the company that produced it under reported the risk of diabetes to the FDA.
520191 tn?1355635402 Simple question can you take two anti-pyschotic medications at once? And if you can is it better than an a anti-depressant for a mixed mood? - this is because i am on seroquel for anxiety and sleep and i don't want to come off it but i have the choice of going on venlfaxine or zyprexa so if i chose zyprexa would i have to come off the seroquel. I am being treated for bipolar at the moment mixed state.
616450 tn?1228433627 Along with the same risks and side effects that come with any of the shrinkdrugs, Zyprexa has supposedly been linked to diabetes. One article I read suggests that 1% of patients who took it over a period of time became diabetic, but that could be coincidence, right? We could maybe scratch my experience out after all. I felt good for a few days after I started on it, but maybe I was just in the "middle range" or something for those days. Maybe it was coincidence.
Avatar n tn Antipsychotics will all cause tardive dyskinesia and put a person at risk for diabetes and Zyprexa is the prime offender for diabetes. But when Zyprexa worsened my paranoia years ago and it happenned to a friend of mine I knew what was going on. But that's not a "common" side effect. As for "safe" we should be factual.
Avatar m tn and went through a tornado where afterwards i had panic and anxiety attacks. i now have diabetes (from the zyprexa) just was able to get off my low thyroid med., i got so depressed because i have been through alot in the past 12 years, i have high blood pressure, high cholestoral, high tryglicites , a lump in my breast and colitis. the colitis and breast thing bother me the terribly. i pray constantly to my God Jesus Christ, and for a while things seemed to be getting better.
5093508 tn?1390543931 t mean that this will happen on Zyprexa). I too, have looked into the side-effects of Zyprexa and find them disturbing, particularly for us older folks. I would ask to see the studies and protocols for the efficacy of this particular drug coming off of benzos. I also find it a red flag that your Dr. prescribed Ambien when you expressed a wish to wean off Benzos and Benzo-type drugs.
202665 tn?1248806733 No but I gained 35 pounds on Zyprexa and asked to be changed to another antipsychotic because I knew what it could lead to (Zyprexa is the anti-psychotic known to cause diabetes the most). If severe weight gain occurs a person should speak to their psychiatrist. If a person is in the early stages of pre-diabetes with proper dietary changes as well as treatment that can be reversed.
Avatar m tn I went to a psychologist and he put me on Zyprexa about a week ago. I also went to the allergy doctor about 2 weeks ago and they put me on allegra. I also went to the endocrinologist about 2 weeks ago and he said nothing was wrong. I have taken blood tests and my calcium level is slighty high, my billiruben was also slighty high. Also I tried exercising to make me feel better but that put me in a depressed mood and made me feel worse.
Avatar n tn Abilify is the least likely out of the current generation of anti-psychotics to cause weight gain and diabetes but it still can occur.
Avatar f tn A few years back when I had chronic insomnia and got very anxious and depressed due to the sleep loss, a psychiatrist prescribed me Remeron and Zyprexa. Zyprexa to get the sleep going until Remeron kicks in. I fortunately saw my doctor who got very angry with the psychiatrist for giving me Zyprexa as I was not psychotic and secondly there are very bad side effects from it.
789911 tn?1368636783 It wasn't a good idea to put you on zyprexa (it can cause diabetes) but it's also not a good idea to stop cold turkey. Here's what the med insert says.... "Withdrawal From Zyprexa Although Zyprexa is not addicting, the brain may need time to adjust to stopping it. In fact, you should not stop Zyprexa without your healthcare provider's approval. Withdrawing too soon can lead to symptoms such as insomnia, hallucinations, and delusions.
Avatar f tn BUT, im mad because i know the dr will tell my dad. And, i cant have that. I dont want my family knowing. Do i have any course of a lawsuit? What do i do? I want to talk to my fam dr but im embarrassed becasue i feel like he wont understand and he will look at me as a dope addict. I never dr shopped, ever. Never.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
1655289 tn?1326042889 I recently relasped after 10 years of sobriety. I've been severely depressed for months and have started to feel better in the last couple of days. I'm more talkitive, sleeping less, spending online, so I must be a little manic right now. I think I'm self medicating with the alcohol. I am also diabetic so I know I should not drink plus the meds I take (Zyprexa and Prozac) I think I'm in denial about my diabetes because I also have a problem with food, I crave carbs mostly.
