Zithromax gonorrhea treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Zithromax gonorrhea treatment

zithromax

Avatar m tn I self diagnosed myself with gonorrhea about 6 months ago whilst in a remote area of Asia (hence i did not see a local GP) and took two grams of Zithromax as a self treatment (no perscription of course).. Well, after that the infection cleared and has remained dormant until now.... only this time it is my current sexual partner, being a female, who is now seemingly infected also with symptoms related to STI's and specifically gonorrhea...
Avatar n tn I have discharge after 4 days of receiving oral sex from a girl I take 6 x 250 mg Zithromax , before I go to doctor. When I go to doctor I did not inform him about Zithromax. The doctor give me ciprofloxacin 750 mg twice a day for 10 days. He try to find any discharge for testing but he cannot find any. He make a culture urine test. I did not receive the result. This is the 3rd day in treatment I didn't see any discharge but still have burn in my pines and under my abdominal.
Avatar m tn Based on your symptoms, it seems clear you had urethritis. Most cases are due to nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). About one third of those are due to chlamydia, and several other bacteria cause the rest, but often no particular cause can be found. Gonorrhea is another common cause of urethriitis. It is a shame you were treated before being tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
Avatar m tn This is why testing is important. The preferred treatment for gonorrhea is not zithromax. Also, if you do not cure it, then you would definitely end up giving it to your girlfriend if you continue to have unprotected sex with her.
Avatar m tn As we discussed above, there is really no point in testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, or syphilis given your azithromycin treatment since your last sexual exposure -- unless you feel you need to do it for reassurance purposes. The risk of hepatitis is extremely low after only a few exposures of the sort you describe, unless your partner we known to be infected or especially high risk. And you are correct that as a blood donor, you can be sure he has had negative tests recently.
2017496 tn?1354562727 gonorrhea is resistant to zithromax in many areas. See your provider for proper treatment of both so your future fertility isn't at risk!
Avatar f tn i have tested positive for gonorrhea & i recently took 4 pills of ZITHROMAX & 3 pills of CIPRO . I'm not sure if its away ... but 4 days after i took the pills , i had protected sex .... i have couple questions:: 1) even tho im not sure if i still have it & i had protected sex, is it possible if my partner could be tested positive ? 2) Im having very little symptoms but after i had sex, i had abominal pain.what could that mean ?
Avatar n tn I talked to the original doctor and he made the comment that the Bactrim may have caused a false negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea and prescribed zithromax (1g) and a shot of rosephin as a preventative. I informed my girlfriend and her Dr. prescribed zithromax (1g) and a single dose of ciprofloxin. Everything seemed to be ok but a few months later the prostate problems came back and I was put on a month of Levaquin.
Avatar m tn I tested positive for Mycoplasma Genitalium. The test was negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trich, Ureaplasma. I received zithromax (azithromycin) for 5 days. (500 mg the first day and 250 mg day 2-5). The symptoms have improved, for example I no longer have the morning discharge that I had before and the stains in my underwear have almost disappeared. It is now 5 days since I took the last dose of zithromax. I still have some mucus strings and mucus debris in my urine.
Avatar n tn i have taken 500mg of zithromax to cure gonorrhea 4 days ago but still have run down feeling no discharge or burning how long should i wait to feel well a bit of cramping and gas too
Avatar n tn Could those symptoms be the result of gonorrhea and will the Zithromax address adequately? I understand such symptoms may be a sign of sphyillis which is unlikely given my exposure pathway (unprotected oral sex). What is the probability of my February test being a false negative? This forum has been unbelievably helpful. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I've read up on the web that Zithromax is the treatment for Chlamydia + Gonorrhea. Just like to verify it here with you guys. Also, i am still un-tested for the above disease. Just that the window period of it have not come up, is it safe for me to take the drug above even if the test is going to be negative? If I wait until the test is out, will it be too late for me to take the medication?
Avatar m tn The therapies you received would be likely to cure NGU but gonorrhea is not a sure thing. A fair amount of the gonorrhea seen in Asia can be resistant to the drugs you received while over there. On the other hand, the treatment received here in the U.S. (Ceftriaxone and Azithromycin) is the best treatment available with cure rates approaching 100%. If you were infected at that time however, the tests taken will tell the story.
Avatar n tn My questions are now 1) Are these treatments effective so soon after potential exposure or do I have to wait and see if I get symptoms and then repeat the treatment? 2) Will these treatments generally cure Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Syphills or do I need others?

Avatar m tn What is the proper treatment for NGU or just Urethritis? Is 1gm of Zithromax the preffered and correct treatment? Or is another medication better? Thanks.
Avatar n tn //www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2006/updated-regimens.htm Show your doctor. As to why you and your partner have different test results - good question. A mid-diagnosis sounds likely. You should both be treated for gonorrhea and chlamydia, just in case, and avoid sex, including oral, for 7 days. Good luck.
Avatar m tn The doctor we saw diagnosed almost certain gonorrhea and perscribed ciprofloxacin 500mg in one go to be repeated 24hrs later. Also gave us Zithromax 1g in one go, for three days, to cover chlamydia. 20 hours after the first medicine, however, my penis still burns when peeing and the tip is very red round the opening (wasn't before...).Should the symptoms have gone by now? How long does the medicine take to work? Or could the diagnose be wrong?
