I just read that Seroquel causes hunger after eating a meal. I know when I eat a meal I am still hungry. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hello, I take Lithium and Seroquel . The Seroquel increase's appetite and weight gain but i have no issue's with Lithium except dry mouth and dehydration sometime's ,so i drink lot's of water . It's a mood stabilizer and work's well for me and you need regular blood test's so your Lithium levels are not too high .

Yes Seroquel like all currently available antipsychotics can cause weight gain and the potential of diabetes. I did gain weight on Seroquel as I did with other antipsychotics. You could ask your doctor about a specific diet that would help you cut back sugar and carbohydrates and help reduce weight and regular exercise is essential as well.

Seroquel is AWFUL for weight gain! I've seen my doctor for 13years & have gone from 100mg up to 1200mg! I'm weaning myself down..without telling her...Im now on 800mg a night. I've gained 80pounds in the last 2 years! I just think she over medicated! But I have a really hard time sleeping now since I decreased the seroquel. She just put me on 20mg of lexapro..praying it doesn't make me gain weight!

Ziprexa (Geodone in the US) doesn't cause weight gain. It does however cause agitation and sometimes gives people trouble sleeping. So if the seroquel was given to help sleep this isn't the drug for you. Many bipolar people are on lamotrigine and seroquel. That is what my pdoc gives pretty much everyone. I was at my most suicidal while on seroquel so I refused to take it again. Probably not the seroquel that caused the suicidal thoughts - but why take any chances.

Seroquel xr does cause weight gain, but for me it does not affect me sexually, I feel if you excersise everyday your weight should be fine. Cymbalta is a wonderful drug for me, lamitcal, seroquel xr, I take them at night so i wont feel tired during the day but trying to shacking it off in the morning is hard thing to do, coffee seems to help. I tried lithium and man i was feeling like a zombie everyday all day, I dont like that feeling. I really dont have any major side affects with these drugs.

i know risperidone and seroquel do cause "rapid" weight gain, as my brother takes both for schizophrenia. he is actually up 80-90 lbs now. i was on seroquel for about a month and did see a noticeable difference in my weight going up. i stopped taking it for other reason other then the weight part but i am now on latuda which seem to be helping me loose weight without really trying. everything i've read about the weight gain though is that there is really no official reason for it.

I didnt know serequel cause weight gain. no wonder I gain so much weight. Im on geodon and serequel. Glad to be off geodon. Dr will put me on topamax soon/ serequel 200mg at bedtime really helps me sleep. Is there anything else helps sleep that wont cause weight gain? Is 200mg a high dose of serequel?

I recently read an article stating that Seroquel can cause up to a 67% weight gain and Zyprexa up 87% weight gain. Several psychiatrists have told me they have seen a 80lb and a 100lb weight gain. One article talked about changing the internal structure of the cell. I read another that pointed out the rapidly of the weight gain, hypercholesterolemia and development of diabetes. I still have not found a solution for me.

I had some problem with weight gain from Seroquel and especially Risperdal. Abilify is less likely to do that but from what you say the Seroquel is tolerable except for the weight gain. Complex. It is important to keep the weight gain in check so I'd suggest having your psychiatrist refer you to a nutrionist and definitely get a test (at least once a year) for blood sugar levels and the like (on any antipsychotic).

I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.

My doc took me off Seroquel because he said it can cause weight gain. I would ask your doc which drug is causing it. When weight gain is fast & sudden, my G.I. doctor said the #1 cause is medication. But Lithium can cause your thyroid to get out of whack and you can gain weight if it's sluggish. You may want to have the thyriod funtion checked as well. If the thyroid is OK.

Seroquel like all atypical antipsychotics has the potential of weight gain although each person responds differently to each medication. The other side effects you mentioned are most probably temporary and should go away in time. However you should definitely discuss all this with your psychiatrist.

I was happier than I had ever been, but the Seroquel caused major weight gain and major sleepiness-I was falling asleeo at work. I went off Seroquel and tried Abilify and one other (cant remember) but they did not work. I am now backon Seroquel 300 miligrams along with my Lithium and Pexeva. I feel like it doesnt work as well as it did the first time. I went up to 450 with Seroquel, but I am just way too sleepy. Does anyone know a drug that works well with Pexeva and Lithium?

re worried about weight gain, the AAPs are actually usually the worst offenders, although some people never gain weight on them. Depakote is the only anticonvulsant that really tends to cause weight gain. The others are weight neutral or even might make you lose weight. Abilify is generally weight neutral, by the way. At the 75 mg dose, I think the Seroquel is no longer doing its antidepressant job, and it may be making you more sedated because of the antihistamine effect at low doses.

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

I was never told that Geodon would help me lose weight but I have heard that it has a chance of lower weight gain than other medications. I have been on Geodon for about 4 years. I like it for the most part other than I keep having bladder infections and I have been told that Geodon could be the culprit. I wish you the best on your med transitions.

Years ago I was on Zyprexa for one year and gained 60 lbs. I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.

I've been on Seroquel for almost 6 years and yes it does work. The right dose gets rid of the anger. I've tried lowering my dose to 300mg but I get really angry so 400mg keeps me peaceful and generally happy. It's good because it makes me sleep. If I get depressed I usually take Wellbutrin with it and it works great.
