Common Questions and Answers about What is femara used for

femara

318181 tn?1336443496 Hi! I used femara for 2 cycles, after trying clomid for around a year (way too long). I did IUI on my second femara cycle, and it worked! I am now 27 weeks pregnant. I didn't really have any side effects from the femara, and I only had one mature follicle. I also used a trigger shot. I hope it works for you!!
Avatar f tn so femara is particularly good for endo patients.. i produced one or two follicles each time (but i was on the low dose - 2.5mg once a day, and i only have one working ovary) the good thing is that if you dont' have any male factor infertility, then its better than clomid for the fact that it doens't affect CM (doesn't dry it out like clomid can) and it doesn't thin the lining like clomid can either!
788859 tn?1236734548 I just found out from my RE that Femara is off-label for fertility, I didn't know that! He said that he gets a letter a week from the drug company telling them not to use it for fertility treatment since it can cause massive defects if used while pregnant. With that said, he still uses it for assistance, as it has benefits. It does 'wear off' so there is little danger for use while ttc.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Also, what is too slow? Is there a day by which your RE would just stop the cycle and induce AF? I am just worried to get prego so late in my cycle. The 2 miscarriages I had were when I ovulated late (but were natural cycles, no meds). At 39y with only one tube I don't want to waste a lot of time dealing with m/c's!! I did get prego in 2007 on femara which resulted in dd but that cycle I triggered on cd13 with a 20mm follie!!!!!
Avatar n tn t until July, he has recommended we try Femara (2.5mg 2x/day). After researching online, Femara is typically used to treat breast cancer. However, research has suggested there is a higher success rate with Femara vs. Clomid. Along with Femara, we are going to continue the Ovidrel shot. Ask you doctor about this. Maybe this could be an option for you and your husband. Good luck!!
1773487 tn?1331540488 I did letrozole(femara) with injectibles and timed intercourse. It worked first try and my baby is now a little over 10 months. I didn't have any side effects from it(except pregnancy lol).
Avatar n tn I have used clomid for conception but to no avail. How else can i achieve pregnancy.
658287 tn?1318893057 I am on CD29, 15dpo Trigger shot. I normally have a 28cd. Technically was supposed to start yesterday. Spotted very little yesterday. Nothing today but I feel so sick. I'm hot, bloated feeling, congested but I ate very little. Very uncomfortable. Could it be the femara. Although, I did not have any side effect while taking the femara, this is the first time I have been late with my cycle in years. What is going on.
384150 tn?1399904816 m very surprised to hear that Femara has been used; as Alikat mentioned, it is prescribed for breast cancer. My mother took it a few years ago for her treatment. (Yet another reason for my hesitation over taking drugs that may affect my hormones:( Have you heard of taking Vitamin C? It's supposed to improve fertility in women with a shortened luteal phase. LOL I've always hated the length of my periods - 5 to 7 days - so does this mean it's a good thing?!
Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
Avatar n tn What cycle day are you today? And what cycle days did you take femara? As far as I know, femara does not cause a false positive...especially not two days after the last pill.
Avatar f tn femara + follistim injectables worked for us several times (we did miscarry though) i used 5mg femara days 3-7 and follistim days 3, 5, 7 and 9 ...with IUI.. GOOD LUCK!!! it works for a lot of people!
478429 tn?1265244387 Hey ladies, I'm doing Femara this month for the first time - not much luck with Clomid (8 months= 1 BFP early m/c). So I took one month off and decided to give Femara a try before injectables (if needed). So, who here got p/g taking Femara? Trigger ? IUI? etc.... and how many cycles did you do? I'm excited to try something new that could really work, so I'm wanting a bit of good hope!!!
Avatar f tn t hurt to ask your doctor if he will prescribe you the femara if you are unsuccessful this cycle. From what I can remember femara is used in, I believe, cancer patients and they somehow found that it was helping with ovulation or something along those lines. One good thing about it not being listed as an infertility drug is your insurance might cover the cost.
Avatar f tn s counts are normal, my tubes are open, I ovulate on my own and my uterine lining is good. RE is having me start femara this cycle (days 3-7). Has anyone had luck with taking femara (without IUI) for unexplained infertility?
398038 tn?1247857003 Candie, thanks for passing that info along! I was fortunate that my doctor had this handount from some Assisted Reproductive Technology Society organization, as there is little info online because femara is used "off-label" for fertility. As in, it's primary use is for breats cancer. My point is that paying it forward is the best feeling, and I am so glad you and these other ladies found this info valuable.
Avatar n tn It is very hard to ascertain if Femara can directly cause fibromyalgia, since this condition or side effect is not routinely reported or classified in the clinical trials that used Femara. What Femara does, however, is that it can have a side effect in bone metabolism causing decreased bone mineralization that can cause bone pains and sometimes may lead to increased incidence of fractures. Hope this helps. Regards.
Avatar f tn well i recieved my negative beta today and they want me to do a cycle of letrozole or femara which is an oral pill simliar to clomid.. my question is has anyone ever tried this med before, any side effects and any success..
Avatar f tn Hi,thank you very much for your replies.Any way I got my period and purchased femara with doctor's prescription.Actually my periods are irregular.Doctor asked me to use femara after i got period. So before period I was normally searched online femara tablets and costs. Now I am using femara which were given by doctor's prescription. In the same hospital pharmacy only I took the femara tablets.Once again thank you.
652899 tn?1284047173 I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I didn't even see your message. I had absolutely no side effects with Femara. I had great follicles too. I just didn't get pregnant. I took it for 2 months. Before that I took Clomid for four months. That was horrible. I started my period yesterday. Friday I am starting injections. Follistim I think its called. We are going to do that for one month. Good luck with Femara. It really is great. I'm sending you happy thoughts. Take care.
Avatar f tn my obgyn here in Canada told me that Femara is just another brand name for Clomiphene which is often called Clomid as well... good luck!
Avatar f tn so now I went to fertility clinic used provera to bring on my cycle which started on jan 7th used opk day 12 through 15 like instructed all negative went to dr had ultrasound to check for follicle growth had ripe follicle 22mm did bd late that night which was cycle day 15 next am got the smiley on clear blue digital advanced opk which meams peak chance for fertility then did bd then next night cycle day 17 went to dr day 21 progestrone test it is supposed to be between 8 and 10 mine was 21 now
320424 tn?1205500555 and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!
Avatar f tn ...Good Luck to US both, that is.
366262 tn?1360031596 I don't think that would have been too soon. The sperm should be able to survive for a few days. I also took Femara for the first time this cycle on days 3-7. I didn't know what to expect either since I O'd late with Clomid, so I used OPK's and temps and appeared to have ovulated cd12. I am now 12 dpo and holding out hope, even though I've felt like AF is coming soon.
Avatar n tn Check the internet for clinical trial updates; Aromasin is currently in clinical trials for ovarian cancer. Previously it was only used for breast cancer. It's known to cut estrogen production by up to 95%. I'm not waiting for the trials to conclude; I want to feel like I'm being proactive now. Best of luck to your mom. It sounds like great news!
