Femara used for fertility

Common Questions and Answers about Femara used for fertility

femara

788859 tn?1236734548 I just found out from my RE that Femara is off-label for fertility, I didn't know that! He said that he gets a letter a week from the drug company telling them not to use it for fertility treatment since it can cause massive defects if used while pregnant. With that said, he still uses it for assistance, as it has benefits. It does 'wear off' so there is little danger for use while ttc.
Avatar n tn I have used clomid for conception but to no avail. How else can i achieve pregnancy.
384150 tn?1399904816 m very surprised to hear that Femara has been used; as Alikat mentioned, it is prescribed for breast cancer. My mother took it a few years ago for her treatment. (Yet another reason for my hesitation over taking drugs that may affect my hormones:( Have you heard of taking Vitamin C? It's supposed to improve fertility in women with a shortened luteal phase. LOL I've always hated the length of my periods - 5 to 7 days - so does this mean it's a good thing?!
Avatar f tn Hi I have pcos and tried clomid with provera a few cycles with no luck at all didnt ovulate.....
Avatar n tn t until July, he has recommended we try Femara (2.5mg 2x/day). After researching online, Femara is typically used to treat breast cancer. However, research has suggested there is a higher success rate with Femara vs. Clomid. Along with Femara, we are going to continue the Ovidrel shot. Ask you doctor about this. Maybe this could be an option for you and your husband. Good luck!!
374593 tn?1257879950 t find any studies that say it increases conception rates, rather it may just make you asymptomatic during the treatment time. Do you ever use Femara for fertility purposis in Endometriosis patients - even though its blacklabel for this, it seems that it would make good sense? Thanks!
Avatar f tn hi! sorry to hear about what you've been going through!!! I unfortuantely understand very well! i was diagnosed with stage 4 endo about 6 months ago, (i had no symptoms, but premenstrual spotting) and i ended up losing an ovary from the endo... and then was later diagnosed with PCOS on my remaining ovary! : ( so we went straight to the fertitliy dr to hopefully get on the fast track to getting preg since time is so important with endo...
Avatar n tn I have done several iui's and used clomid, femera and the hcg injections so far. I'm wondering about the injectable fertility Meds I keep hearing about, my RE hasn't suggested them yet... Anyone have any insight about other meds?
Avatar f tn Yes i have used Femara three rounds, the first time I got pregnant which ended in m/c at 8wks. second round no pregnancy third round we did get pregnant but also another m/c. So we are trying this time without femara. my doctor doesnt think the femara has anything to do with the m/c and i trust him as he is a fertility specialist. they say 1 in 4 end in m/c so we will see if this is our month. i am in my 2ww.
Avatar f tn I have taken Femara, but for fertility (ovulation), not necessarily endo.
284773 tn?1207757759 Maybe you are thinking of Femara (letrozole)?? This is also used to treat breast cancer and to induce ovulation in fertility patients instead of clomid. I read many scientific articles regarding femara before I decided to try it. It does work and worked for me on the first cycle. I know others who it also worked for. If you are looking for an alternative to clomid it is something you may want to investigate bfore moving on to injectibles.
Avatar f tn m looking for feedback from anybody that was having ultrasound and bloodwork monitoring while only taking femara for fertility. The ultrasound monitoring is new for me as my previous fertility doctor only did bloodwork monitoring. So I'm looking for feedback on number of follicles and size on.
318181 tn?1336443496 Hi! I used femara for 2 cycles, after trying clomid for around a year (way too long). I did IUI on my second femara cycle, and it worked! I am now 27 weeks pregnant. I didn't really have any side effects from the femara, and I only had one mature follicle. I also used a trigger shot. I hope it works for you!!
325477 tn?1250551309 Clomid is the most common drug used for Ovulation induction...and often the starting point for most RE. Metformin is given to people with insulin resistance (usually the case with PCOS people). However in my case my insulin resistance test was negative, so RE did not put me on Metformin. Femara is similar to Clomid, it just works differently internally...but does the same job Clomid does. I changed RE because after trying clomid, they basically gave me option of IVF or injectibles.
Avatar f tn Well AF is about to show anyday now (unless by some miracle I get a BFP). So I have 2 choices for my next cycle. Just wondering what you guys think I should do. A. Go with Clomid and no RE. Clomid helps produce more and better quality eggs, although one side effect is that it has the potential to create hostile CM. But I would be taking EPO, and using Pre-Seed in a hopes to counteract. I got this Rx from my general practitioner, so really no one would be monitoring me.
1420070 tn?1282337926 How many tries did it take for you to get pregnant? Were you on any fertility drugs? Did you do IUI or IVF, with a known or unknown donor? My wife and I are going on our 5th month but 3rd try. The first month was on 50mg of clomid with 3 mature follicles and didn't get pregnant. Second attempt was on 75mg clomid with 7 follicles (5 mature and 3 close, skipped that one, didn't want to be "octo-mom") and last month was on 2.
Avatar f tn Clomid didn't work for me - we tried three cycles. But I am now pregnant after the first round of femara. Ask your doctor about using Femara. it is also an oral med. It is well recognised for ovulation stimulation, though it is being used 'off-label' for this purpose. It is taken the same way clomid is for 5 days at the beginning of the cycle. It doesn't affect the cervical mucous the way clomid does. Worth a shot, before moving on to fertility specialist.
Avatar f tn Eventually a few months later I get to an actual fertility specialist. He put me on femara 2.5mg twice a day. I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!
398038 tn?1247857003 it is actually a breast cancer drug and they discovered it could be used for fertility because many of these breast cancer patients were getting pregnant. Femara acts in a different way than clomid. It actually inhibits an enzyme that makes the real estrogen in your body. In this way it actually reduces the level of estrogen and like clomid this induces a cascade of events that lead to ovulation.
1697057 tn?1351540435 This cycle I started doing a self fertility massage, and it is said to help with many things including unexplained fertility. I got a DVD on Amazon for 30 bucks, but you can also have a massage therapist teach you the techniques. (the DVD is cheaper, plus in your own home) as far as results I've noticed. This cycle I've had 7 days of fertile CM, in previous cycles I was lucky to have 1 day.
Avatar n tn is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid. I've been on letrozole for three months now, and I don't have any of the side effect I had with clomid. I have had good and healthy ovulation since I started taking it. Good luck and baby dust to you!
