Common Questions and Answers about What is accutane used for

accutane

Avatar m tn I remember being prescribed this drug and I used it for what I can remember was a two month period. during that two months I suffered bloody diarhea and my eczema flared up to the point where I was bleeding. I am reading about some of the side effects and it is scaring me. Could I develop some of these serious side effects, my eczema has been pretty bad since then, lots of bad flare ups all over my body (is this a direct result of taking the accutane)?
Avatar f tn Hello, Thanks for taking the time to respond! I am 22 years old and I've never taken Accutane. I've made another appointment with the doctor for this week and hopefully I will find out what is happening! I will ask for the throat swab test like you've suggested. Thanks again!!!
Avatar n tn Even putting aloe vera or my aveeno cream made it sting and it burnt for hours later. Not sure about the Jolens bleach though, but what I have done while on accutane is threading, which I think is your best option for facial hair with no reactions!
546892 tn?1214525401 Isotretinoin is a type of medication used to treat severe acne (nodlo cystic or nodular acne) which have failed to respond to other treatments including any type of oral antibiotics and topical application creams. Accutane is strong medicine for acne cure but can have serious side effects.
Avatar n tn The best cream is Aquafor , you can use it on your lips, face and hands. You can get it at any rite aid, duane reade or cvs, I wouldn't use the Elizabeth Arden stuff, (Unless it's fragrance free and hyper allergenic) because it's best to stay away from lotions that have fragrance. I was on accutane and I used all fragrance free items, dove unscented, aveeno face lotion for sensitive skin (with pink cap) etc.
Avatar n tn i am 19 years old and have been struggling with bad acne for years, im scared of what everyone is saying about accutane but i think it may work..what do i do? This discussion is related to Accutane.
Avatar m tn Can you send me a link to what you were reading that said there is a relationship between Isotretinoin and Hashimoto's? I don't know of any scientific studies being done on that. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease, in which your body recognizes your thyroid as foreign. Many of us have it, who have never taken Isotretinoin. Accutane is no longer on the market in the U.S.
Avatar n tn Your doctor may advise you to reduce application for a while. What is the other topical lotion he is using? If it contains benzoyl peroxide this may be contributing to his sensitized skin. Whilst using these products i would recommend also using Lutsine hydrafnia cleanser and moisturizer. They are especially made for spot-prone skin which has become irritated due to acne therapy. Look online for delivery or stockists in your area. How old is your son?
Avatar m tn I was wondering what it could be and if it it is necessary to seek professional help. I also used to to take Accutane for 4 months. I stopped using it about 3 months ago.
Avatar n tn I think Accutane is still used, but it can cause a lot of serious side effects. Not only depression and suicide, but other issues. My boss, whose skin looks older than his dad's, proudly told me he used Accutane when he was a teenager. He seems oblivious to how old and wrinkled his skin is. You should talk to a dermatologist about the best course of action for her scarring. She might want to just try using white vinegar on her face at night.

Avatar f tn Hi, Isotretinoin (INN) is a medication used for the treatment of severe acne.Accutane is the most common trade name for this drug. Currently, isotretinoin continues to be used only after other acne treatments fail to produce results.
Avatar f tn Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
Avatar n tn Hey, how is this going? Accutane is hard to take. I'm aware. Head pain is listed as a side effect along with a host of other things. It can cause neck ache as well which leads to a tension headache. What did you end up doing? I wonder if there is an alternative to Accutane you could try!
10131613 tn?1407989226 It may be worth noting that when I was 12 and 13 years old I had TERRIBLE Back, chest, and shoulder acne. Some mild acne on my cheeks, but TERRIBLE! back/chest/shoulder. It was so bad that I looked leprous, and went on a heavy cocktail of accutane. It cleared up the acne, but I am still left with terrible scarring on my chest and shoulders, nearly 15 years later. Some spots on my chest look like scars but occasionally (Maybe once every few years) inflate with blood and puss.
Avatar n tn Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn Hi, Isotretinoin (INN) ( Accutane) is a medication used for the treatment of severe acne. It is sometimes used as a chemotherapy medication for prevention and treatment of certain skin cancers. It is a retinoid, meaning it derives from vitamin A and is found in small quantities naturally in the body. Isotretinoin is a teratogen and is highly likely to cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I have a problem with syringomas under my eyes, with pm33 story shared i just feel relieved to read that i found a solution to my problem. is accutane really safe to use for anyone without your doctor's order? and is this an over the counter or prescription application?
Avatar f tn I believe I am pregnant: I had been taking accutane for several months during the month of may and june 2009 i had been forgetting to take the meds, i was taking them every other day. Around June 11, I took one than I forgot to take one until the 19th, which is the same day I think I got pregnant. I did not take any other pill after that, do you think this can harm my baby?
Avatar n tn I to know have chronic migraines,as well as ocular migraines, and I am 100% photophobia I know wear sunglasses just about 100% of the time but i am NOT certain if it is related to taking accutane..... I am very curious to hear how you daughter is doing, I had to drop out of college due to the fact I could no longer handle the lights while setting in class. I am unable to work, use a computer more than 5 mins at a time or else I get an ocular migraine.
Avatar f tn can the hCG simply normally be 11 in her body or does this mean she IS pregnant, or worse, could she have miscarried at a VERY early stage? I guess we're just confused as to why hCG would be in her system at all ... and not rising ... Any info is much appreciated. thanks. -Concerned Hubby.
Avatar n tn I'm a guy, 20 years old, and took accutane back in 2008 for only 3 months. Stopped early because of thinning hair in mass amounts. Doctors and dermatologists don't want to attribute accutane as the cause to something like this because quite frankly, the accutane doesn't often do its damage in massive amounts as quickly to really show a "drastic difference" or whatever.
