Common Questions and Answers about What does a throat infection look like

throat

you go and be seen like you would for any other sore throat. while your doctor is feeling your neck and stuff, just casually say -do you think this could be an oral std ? I've given unprotected oral sex recently and can't help but wonder about it. - that's a good way to start the discussion :) you have every right to ask to be alone with your doctor. if they have med students, you can refuse them too. it's all part of your rights as a patient.
I hate to dx someone over the internet, but it really sounds a whole lot like what I have gone through with lupus. You said all your labs are normal except the ANA, MPV and Monocytes. Did you mean MCV? If so, that means your hematocrit is off. It reflects the size of the red blood cells. Increased values may indicate macrocytic anemia or vit B or folic acid deficiency and decreased values may indicate microcytic anemia possibly caused by iron deficiency.
A week later, I contracted a sore throat for a few days with a sinus head cold. One day that week - I looked into my mouth to my tonsils (something I never really did before) and noticed a little half-soybean size white pimple above my left tonsil. It is situated in the arch right above the tonsil (not on the tonsil itself - I think..). I have kept an eye on it for all this time, and it hasnt changed in size or bothered that area. My tonsils never appear swollen or inflamed.
My 8 year old daughter has a reoccuring throat infection that requires antibiotics. She took 7 or 8 rounds of it last year and again this year seems to be getting it again. I do not want her to build up antibodies or become allergic to it. I know antibiotics are good here and there, but too much isn't good for you and if I can find a way to help her avoid her throat infections, I'd like to eliminate the need for antibiotics.
it started before he got the antibiotic though, and before the MRSA throat infection was diagnosed. And this all started with what I thought was a virus. Do you think he should get a sputum culture, and is that even possible when he's not coughing? Thanks again for all your advice, you've been very helpful, which is very much appreciated.. it makes this a lot harder that he's in another country and I can't talk to the doctors there.
my wisdom tooth has been bothering me for two days, this pain has lead to my throat and into my ear as well as caused a headache. i went to the dentist and he's told me that i have a infection although the problem is that I'm deathly allergic to penicillin and all five of them that fall under the category of penicillin. So in the end I'm screwed for antibiotics and so far have no way to kill the infection.
I am not suggesting you have MS, I am not a doctor, nor do I know a whole lot about it. I'm just learning now but it seems like we share quite a few symptoms to a greater or lesser degree. Perhaps research your symptoms, ask people you trust, continue to search and keep your chin up! Good luck.
com/d3q7x (This is a view of a throat from a Mono patient). It's best not to speculate and have a doc look at your throat.
I keep taking him to the doctor and they keep treating him with antibiotics saying he has allergies that have caused an sinus infection. We recently went to a Rheumotolgist who ordered a lot of blood workup and told him that he had a swollen thyroid. The lab work came back to say that his thyroid levels were fine. He dose have a low Vitamin D level because he is a police officer that works strickly nights. They put him on large doses of Vitamin D.
There is a chance of HIV being transmitted through the mouth, even more so with open ulcers and sores (like herpes for instance). That's like saying you won't catch a STD if you wear a condom. Look it up. Thanks for your advice though.
I decided to get a flashlight and take a look for myself. And what I saw was not a pretty sight. Should I be worried especially since my throat is hurting.
Hi there I got two white marks on both my tonsils and thats it they aren't really red or soar I haven't had any fever or soar body parts or anything I get soar throats at least once a year so I know what the pus and lines look like from other soar throats and know my symptoms and this isn't like that. Today I was sick but I think that was cause I took two birth control pills cause my doc told me to for other health reasons.
i went to get checked and my they told me it was just my subaceus glands, but i had never had that many before.i've been having a burning pain in my penis, and a soar throat on and off.of couse i am going to get tested. i just wanted to know if this sounded like herpes, im afraid that's what is is.

I havent shaved in over a year either but I did this time and cut myself and one of the blister has a hair coming out it. But the other blister is on my lybias and on is growing larger. Thyroid-Fine Diabetes-Negative (Although blood sugar slightly out of range) General blood testing- Ok (neutrophils that fight bacteria 2 points out of range at last blood test), overall white blood count within range CT head scan-Normal Food allergy testing shows no allergies Doctor has tried (Metronidazole)Makes symptoms 10x worse Nystatin and diflucan make symptoms feel 10x worse GP a while ago said i had a sinus infection.
I would also be worried if you have a different infection--encephalitis or meningitis. I think infection will probably show up on a lumbar puncture. Had your doctor talked to you about getting an LP? There are other causes of these symptoms, too, besides MS there's TIA (mini-stroke), vitamin B12 deficiency, pinched nerve autoimmune disorders (lupus, Sjogrens, etc.), migraines, and even an underactive thyroid. I hope that your neuro will get to the bottom of this.
At first the bleeding was light then kind of dark then back light. I had some clots but i don't know what to look for as a sign of a micarriage. I've heard that they are mostly painful and there is one big clot/block of blood, but I just don't know. This is my first pregnancy and i am just worrying b/c I want erverything to be alright. Please, Please help me!
My questions are does this sound like a cold sore at all? It hasn't formed a scab or crust but also keep in mind this is because it is inside my lip where a scab is unable to develop due to the moisture.
when i carry things i feel like i'm going to fall over. i have a hard time focusing... i feel like i'm in my own world sometimes when people are talking to me... and i slur my words or say them in the wrong order. i used to be such an energetic person... i ran 40 miles a week and was always on the go... now i'm worn out simply from going to the grocery store. i haven't been able to work in 2 years!
sounds like it to me in my humble opinion.....I'm sure not a doctor, only a fellow MSer. does it take a few years to get a clinical diagnosis of MS...YUP! took me 3 yrs to get mine! Now after sooo many years of struggling with this disease with no Cure; I began to read and do research on the similarities between MS and Lyme and so many others Fibro, Lupus, ALS etc etc... found out I got lesions from the lyme disease! found out lots more too.....
after continuous days with a feeling like there's something stuck in my throat (painless) just turned to painful, like a sore throat. my throat started to sting whenever i swallow. after a day and a half my nostrils started to hurt. it stings whenever i breathe in and out. and then my throat completely stopped hurting for a few hours but my nostrils still stings. after the stinging sensation stopped, i could feel the same "something stuck in my throat"!
She prescribed a z pak and i'm only on the 2nd day pill but from what it looks like my throat is still red. What could this be? How long does it usually take for the medication to work? I'm very concerned it's something more than a sore/red throat.
Curiously though, I have never had a sore throat, lymph nodes were never swollen. Also...a few weeks ago, I drank two beers. It felt like my kidneys had shut down. I drank a lot of water after and didn't have to urinate for six hours despite the beer. I believe I am having trouble fighting off mono because my lymphocyte count is down. My doctor has not suggested any further testing and doesn't know what could be wrong. 1) what could be wrong with my kidneys?
is it common or on the lesser side. If this were a new infection, then I must have active hpv, true? If this were a recurrence, what are the factors caused it? Thanks for your help.
So could this really be a persistant sinus infection or does it sound like something worse such as asthma or pneumonia?
Now, one month on, still have white coating of the tongue, mild throat infection, green stools, rash on upper torso (about 6 faint blotches which look like a tinia or exchma type rash and I have lost 5-8 kg in 2 weeks. Further, I'm now again experiencing the burning in my legs and back of neck and night sweats, tingling fingers etc. I tested neg to all STD's 4 days post incident. Oral swab of white coating on tongue came back fine over 10 days ago.
