I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea.
So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin?
If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!

EMedTV has an article that explains some statins are associated with high liver enzymes. It says increases in liver enzymes occur in 1.7 percent of people taking Vytorin. This increase appears to be more prevalent in people who are taking higher doses.
It goes on to explain other causes of high liver enzymes.
I have been diagnosed with high cholesterol the doc put me on Vytorin samples for a month it seemed to agree till I took it for 2 months, got flu like symptoms, then he put me on Crestor samples for a month again the bad side effects came 2 months after I took them aching muscles, coughing, tightness to where nothing would come up when I coughed..... this all scared me and I chave not called him I really don't want to go any other meds for this, is there any alternative for this.???
When statins lower LDL, this automatically makes the HDL a higher proportion than it was. Triglycerides can also be a problem in some people, trying to lower them.
My doctor perscribed Vytorin 10/20. This is where my health began to deteriorate. I developed both clay soft stool and chronic explosive diarrhea in the mornings (3-4X before leaving the house) and excessive tiredness. At first I didnt put the two together, I just thought it was something I was eating or drinking so I continuously changed my diet. Nothing helped. I went back to the doctor for a 1 yr follow up and mentioned the diarrhea.
s when my triglycerides skyrocketed. However, by learning how to manage my diet, I was able to bring my triglycerides back down to normal levels. Best wishes to your dad.
Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore.
My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily.My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
My current total cholesterol is actually 283 but was 338 before I lost the twenty-five pounds. My triglycerides went from 207 to 118. I have not tried Vytorin so I will talk to my doctor about that.I am taking CQ10 and multivitamins. I also take synthroid for underactive thyroid. Other than the thyroid and the cholesterol I am well. Thanks for everyones' suggestions!
Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
Also, if you cut empty carbs such as sugars, breads and pastas out of your diet it will help reduce your triglycerides as well. You really want your level below 150 if possible. I am on Tricor and Vytorin, which is just simvastatin and zetia. The Tricor has lowered mine from 333 to 145. I would like to think that my diet and exercise has helped as well!
i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems.
Do you think I should consider this image screening?
In my case, I went through four statin drugs before I found the one that helped me (Vytorin). I do believe that taking a high quality fish oil, two grams a day has substantially dropped my Trigs.
I would suggest you discuss with your doctor the possibility of the statins giving you the pain, and I'd address the fact that blood tests certainly should have come much earlier. Keep us informed.
, 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82.
I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
As my mother also has issues controling hers. He has prescribed Vytorin for me. I did do the full lipid panel and the HDL was 48 and LDL was above 150. I did check glucose level and it was ok.
I have been making great efforts to sticking to my diet. Oatmeal for breakfast and no beaf, pork or shellfish. Fish at least twice per week and lots of protein from beans. I rarely eat eggs.
As to exercise.
Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
First time I have done a test and found that my triglycerides(Method-Enzymatic cholesterol esterase peroxide and found that the result is 527. How to reduce the same quickly.
my brother has 210 triglycerides in blood . Is it serious?. how he can reduce the level. His age is 32. Weight is 67kg.
