Valtrex early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex early pregnancy

valtrex

Avatar m tn The suggested dose for pregnancy is actually 500 twice a day now of Valtrex or 400 mg three times a day of acyclovir because of the bigger dilution factor in the blood system and also the immunocompromised state of pregnancy. And yes, 36 weeks is fine if they don't expect her to go into labor early for any reason.
Avatar n tn how far into pregnancy are you at this point? what testing did you have done initially to confirm hsv2?
Avatar f tn thanks for your comments.... my doctors are the ones recommending the valtrex, including the increased amount, but it definitely makes me nervous. I definitely plan to go with the c-section if they don't have any more answers for me with my next appointment. This is my 2nd child, and I didn't have any of these problems the 1st time, but they still had me take Valtrex the last month of pregnancy due to my history.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum. I'll try to help. There are two reasons for anti-herpes therapy the last 3-4 weeks of pregnancy in women with histories of genital herpes. First is to prevent a recurrent outbreak that would increase the chance of HSV transmission to the baby and would force an otherwise unnecessary cesarean section. The second is to lower the chance of transmission of HSV to the baby.
Avatar f tn He performed an internal exam and then looked at my chart and realized that I am on Valtrex because I had an herpes outbreak about 5 years ago. The outbreak was type 1 and it was on my butt. He decided to go ahead and culture the sore/cut and said if it comes back positive for herpes I would need to have a csection and the results should be back either Wednesday or Thursday. My biggest worry is if I go into labor before then.
Avatar m tn Hi! I'm not sure I can be of as much help here as some others can, since I'm new to the forum, and come here for advice myself. However, I am currently just over 34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby, and only recently (within the last month or so) learned of the dangers of neonatal herpes. To say it has had me concerned is an understatement!
Avatar n tn and if it happens, infection that early in pregnancy has no known effect on the baby. (There is a little uncertainty as to whether new HSV early in pregnancy can cause miscarriage -- but if so, it is rare.) The effectiveness of valacyclovir (Valtrex) in preventing transmission of genital HSV-1 has not been studied. HSV-1 is less susceptible to the drug than HSV-2, so we can't be sure it would be as effective as it is for HSV-2.
Avatar f tn I had experienced that in my early pregnancy as well I do believe it's normal
Avatar f tn Hi Mike, I know that Valtrex does not affect antibody. But how about p24 antigen? At early 34days test, the main portion of test should detect the antogen rather than antibody?
Avatar m tn I just want to begin by saying that this site has been a great resource for myself and my girlfriend who are new carriers of genital HSV-1. Thanks in advance. We both contracted HSV-1 in mid december 2009, both experiencing a primary outbreak, and subsequently dealing with the fallout from that. She had a culture and bloodwork, I had bloodwork--these confirmed our HS-1 status.
Avatar f tn t have time to produce antibodies to pass on to the baby in vitro. Is it common for women to stay on valtrex the whole pregnancy as opposed to just starting at 36 weeks? I guess there just isn't much research yet on the effects of valtrex on igg testing as I've been told multiple times by different doctors that if I was negative at 17 weeks, I'm negative, the valtrex doesn't matter but researching it myself I find a much different answer. Thanks Grace!
Avatar f tn have you discussed with your obgyn going on the pregnancy doses of valtrex ( 500mg 2x/day ) for the last month of pregnancy too?
Avatar f tn Then last year after giving birth I started to have frequent outbreaks, so my doctor put me on daily Valtrex. A few days ago I felt like I was going to get an outbreak, so I doubled up on my Valtrex and took 500mg twice a day. Today I noticed that my outbreak was certainly there. Is the Valtrex not helping me? I am very confused why I am getting an outbreak since I am on Valtrex and it is GHSV1 which shouldn't have frequent outbreaks.
Avatar n tn I recently tested positive for HSV2. Doc put me on Generic Valtrex for supressive therapy. I took 500mg once a day for about a week. The sore from OB has never been so bad or lasted so long. 6 days ago I started 500mg twice a day and still no relief. Could I be immune to the Valtrex? How long should it take to get relief? Awaiting call back from Doc but holidays and all...
Avatar m tn m wondering if I should be worried about those very, very early doses of Valtrex having kept me from seroconverting. Any thoughts and/or help would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn No. Like squints said it's to early. Being on valtrex helps to lower the amount of time the virus sheds. His risk is very very low. I wouldn't be overly concerned about this. His real world risk from this is almost zero.
Avatar f tn I suffer from cold sores too an had one early in my pregnancy. When I feel one coming and while its there I take lysine its a vitamin. It will help it clear up faster. I had researched it an read to take half the recommended dose but others say all is fine....just thought I would throw that option out there.
Avatar n tn Ok thank you. Is that the price for just the test? No lab fee's included right? Me being pregnant, does that throw off my results at all? Is there any chance that shingles might have affected my HSV 1 results? I am on valtrex. equivocal means that it's not sure right? My midwife told me that it might be too early to tell if it's an early infection but, I have not had sexual intercourse in about 7 months since i found out i was pregnant.
Avatar n tn Yes we do have studies that show that valtrex/acyclovir are both safe for momma and baby during the last month of pregnancy. In fact we don't have a single study anywhere that shows that they aren't safe - it's just erring on the side of caution that suppressive therapy isn't officially ok for the entire pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I tested positive for HSV2 (genital herpes) in early March. Since then I've been taking 500mg of Valtrex every night and plan to do so for the next year to year and a half as suggested by my doctor. I have had no other outbreaks since the first one. My doctor explained to me that taking Valtrex on a regimen would help the virus become dormant. I was wondering what that meant specifically in terms of my likelihood of transmitting the virus to sexual partners with or without condoms.
Avatar f tn The sores started as red bumps which turned into open sores that looked like canker sores, around the inside of my lower labia and the entrance to my vagina. I have been taking 500 mg Valtrex daily since then and have not had an outbreak since. Does Valtrex often work this well? And does this truly sound like herpes or a misdiagnosis? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Too late on valtrex, taking 3 times a day for last 4 days. Could this be why no blisters have appeared?
Avatar n tn Valtrex is allowed to be sold in a generic form only in India at this time. I would be very reluctant to order from anyplace online that said it was selling valtrex in a cheap generic form. They are not allowed to say it's valtrex if it's acyclovir. ( I am currently at work and unable to access the site you posted to give a better answer than that ).
233552 tn?1228319699 How much Valtrex can I take while I'm pregnant? I have the 500mg tabs, how many times a day or how many a day can I take?
